I have HDD which I have windows 7 installed on it and I want to boot this on another system? I had tried but system restart when Windows 7 tries to boot. The same hdd works well on the original system. So what can be the solution, I have lots of programs installed on it and I don't want to format hdd to work on the another system.
View 3 RepliesSuddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.
- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.
I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi
My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.
I have a WIN -7 system with 1 trig SADA hard drive. I also have a Vista system with a 750mb hard drive from my old computer.Can I install the Vista hard drive into the Win-7 system and boot from either system?

View 9 Replies View Relatedi had multiple systems (3) on my computer but mainly 1 i use everyday, so i formated the two partitions with the systems i dont need after a reeboot (like i ecpected) i had a bootmbr missing error. So i went and tryed using the repair function of the dvd but that dident work. So i installed a complete new system on one of the new partitions (i left the old one allown), after i installed the new system i booted up and installed easy bcd and added my old partition to my boot manager, but after i boot up I can see the boot menu and select the old system i want to start up from but it brings an error and tells me to enter the dvd and repair the system. I am so lost on this. why istent it just taking the files and booting? what did i do wrong

I have tried that multiple times and rebooted each time but no luck.System specs - Windows 7 64 bit, 16gb ram. Core i7-920 with 12 gb ram. This is an OEM disc that I bought from comp store, all parts and OS are less than three years old. C: drive - windows install a few apps, Drive 1 - games and music,
1) tried looking up this error with instructions. online instructions have had me go into the command prompt to perform edits on the c: windowsSystem32 folder. These do not come up in my prompt on my c: drive - where windows in installed. See program files etc, but no Windows32 folder.
2) already have run the c: chkdsk /r to try and fix the disc. It went through everything and comes back saying there are no problems. Still cannot boot to windows either get BSOD mentioned above or recovery mode.
3) Cannot go to previous restored state (one of the choices ) as it states that I have no restore points although I know that I have established at least 2 in the last 2-3 months
4) Tried inserting the Windows 7 disc and running repair from there but it just takes me to the same Windows system recovery mode which still does not work.
5) I tried hitting F8 during boot to go into safe mode but no good. it only takes me to a screen which gives me the option for boot order.
6) run the memory test from recovery console - no problems.
I have read the BSOD thread but everything there seems to assume that you can already boot into Windows at sometime and download the exe to run. (I cannot get into windows at all)Does anyone have any suggestions? I built this one myself (4th build) and have never in the 10 years of using Windows had a problem which I could not get into at least safe mode.I can go to maybe until this weekend but need to use my computer by Saturday cob.If I have had no luck at that point i will have to reinstall windows (it is on its own harddrive with most all of my applications on separate drives. I've had this laptop for about 2 years, and recently (about 2 weeks ago) it's been very slow, freezing if I start chrome or other software, delay going into system options when I click ctrl+alt+delete. But today, it froze again and it wouldn't budge so I held my power button to turn it off and restarted it, and shortly after it booted up, it froze and the mouse wouldn't even bother to move or click anything, everything was frozen. I've tried restarting several times already but it still freezes, although safe mode works for me which is what I'm using right now, I've already used the "Last Known Settings that worked" feature and it can boot when I do a selective boot with just the drivers. But normal boot settings do not work.
Furthermore, I've ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool which showed no errors at all after it was fully completed. So I'm quite unsure what to do because I attend a laptop program at school and regularly use my laptop for work.I made sure my drivers are all updated by using Driver Genius Professional which I've had for quite a while.I've also tried to use system restore to many restore points but it just boots up and gives me the message of how it has failed.
I have a custom built system. windows 7 installed but it will not start up in this system. A friend put the hard drive into his system and Windows started up fine on his. I ran the memory check on windows and it never said that there were problems but you have to be able to get into windows to see the report so i can't be totally sure. The motherboard was sent back and checked by the mfg. and i doubt that the processor could be bad if it was able to install windows 7 onto the hard drive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was trying to get a dual boot setup of Windows 7 and Ubuntu where I had 1 partition for Windows 7, another for Ubuntu, and a third neutral partition accessible from either OS where I would house all of my data. The problem is, my computer already had 3 partitions set up: Windows 7, the system boot partition, and one called PQService. Because I could not find a tutorial to delete pqservice, I decided to delete my system partition, even though this seemed a little more risky (apparently it was lol.) I used this tutorial: TeraByte Unlimited Knowledge Base to copy the boot files to the windows partition and delete it. I then booted into a Live CD of Ubuntu, and used Gparted to move my Windows 7 partition in order to get rid of the 100MB of unallocated hard drive space. I then attempted to restart my computer into Windows and i got an error saying that windows could not boot because of some recent hardware changes. Is there anyway I could get back into windows without reinstalling it? Do I need to figure out some way to restore my System partition? Is there someway I could get windows to boot without doing either of those?

My windows 7 system does not boot probably because of file corruption. Recovery console(repair) cannot fix system to boot and cannot tell what is the problem. I have a OEM installation disc(Premium x64, bought from shop no withing machine) and it seems that I should be able to boot system if I want to start upgrade install. I would like to repair system and preserve installed programs. The problem boot disc can be read and write ok when it is installed on other system. Is there any way I can repair my system?

Then i download easybcd tool to set windows vista as a default OS to boot with, but accidently in easybcd software i unistalled vista boot loader. now when i reboot the system ubuntu works fine but when i try to load vista its says NTLDR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt and Delete to restart. Then tried to boot from cdrom because i have a fresh copy of Windows 7. the system doesnt boot from cdrom. So now i am stuck with ubuntu on my system.

I tried the typical things:booting to safe mode, etc. but they all do the same. So I tried to sin the System Recovery Options, first from the Advanced Boot Options menu and then directly from my Windows 7 disk. In all these cases, the program gets stuck after selecting the "Repair Your Computer" option, as in this picture:The mouse keeps working fine, but all I can see is the background image, and no window pops up. I know that it is supposed to prompt me to select my windows installation, but that window never comes up. A similar thing happens when I try to install windows instead. It just never gets to the next step.Is there anything that anyone can think of that I could do to solve this problem?

I want to reformat the Windows 7, deleting the OS in the process. What I'm wondering is where is the boot loader located? Is it on the Windows 7 drive (since it was installed after XP), and will I need to do anything special to have the system load Windows XP by default after the Windows 7 installation is gone? Will the system simply detect the old XP installation and load it without the bootloader?

I have been having some troubles with this computer since day of purchase. The first BSOD I had was posted and resolved here: BSOD during battlefield 3. Previously, my computer would BSOD during game activity, such as battlefield 3. Elmer identified the probable cause being Avira, and sure enough when I attempted to delete it the computer BSOD; I managed to delete it in safemode and have had no BSOD's during game sessions ever since. However, lately I have encountered random BSOD's during Windows update and System start up (Just before the windows logo screen) of the same error code; I have posted the DMP file and CPUz screenshots. I think it is also worth mentioning that in games I have noticed stuttering no matter what graphical settings I set it to.I am having difficulty tracking down the Hardware responsible for this BSOD; I have run memtest overnight and it passed without fault. Could the 60gb Force 3 SSD be responsible? Or the RAM?
Can Someone tell me if it is possible to revive a boot sector on windows 7 with Hiren's BootCD?

My C partition is free of any other software other than just the boot files, is there a way to back this up before installing Windows 7 to make undoing this easier?
If not, if I boot from XP cd-rom and go into recover mode, will fixboot (and fixmbr if needed) restore the boot process to XP style or will I need to do more?
Message won't boot - boot with Win7 DVD - go to repair - no operating system shown - do repair - reboot - same result.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was playing a game when suddenly the screen froze. The system was completely unresponsive. The lights on the keyboard wouldn't even change when pressing Num Lock, Caps Lock or Scroll Lock. When rebooting, the system would not go into Windows. It would just make it past the "Starting Windows" screen and then freeze up again. I ran System Repair and let it do its thing. It took about 5 minutes then came back and gave me a general error message, saying it couldn't fix the problem. However, Windows did start correctly after System Repair was run. The problem occured a few more times. Mostly when playing games but also once whilst I was browsing the internet (music was playing also).

I installed Windows XP Professional on that new partition (trying to create dual OS). After Windows XP was installed, I was unable to find "Windows 7" as a boot option under "Startup and Recovery"... I could only see Windows XP Professional. I went to Disk Management and right clicked on the partition where my Windows 7 OS was under, and chose "Make partition active"... I got a warning system MAY not be able to boot, but I chose to proceed anyways. I tried restarting and got an error "BOOTMGR is missing / Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" ... I tried pressing F11 after restarting to get into "System Recovery" but it would go directly to the error message. I was still be able to access everything else during boot except "System Recovery" such as BIOS, etc.

After the restore the laptop restarted and went into the setup screen... then it tells me it's unable to continue the setup whilst in safe mode and asks me to restart...thus the loop continues.how to start in normal mode and continue the setup?I've tried going to the black boot screen which has a variety of options including "Start Windows Normally" but none of these worked.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have just run PartedMagic on a new Windows 7 system to shrink C: in order to be able to create an E: (Data) partition. On rebooting, I get the following error message: Windows failed to start.
A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disk and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disk, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

As it is a new machine, it was supplied with no system disk and I don't have a Windows 7 Installation Disk to hand. I guess that either the boot sector has been corrupted, the partition table has been corrupted or most likely that the system partition has been moved slightly.
Incidentally, the system is an Acer Aspire 5742 According to PartedMagic, the partitions are now allocated as follows:
unallocated - Size = 1.00 MiB
/dev/sda1 - NTFS - PQSERVICE - Size = 15.00GiB - Used = 12.27GiB - Unused = 2.73 GiB
/dev/sda2 - NTFS - SYSTEM RESERVED - Size = 100 MiB - Used = 33.59 MiB - Unused = 66.41 MiB - boot
unallocated - Size = 7.84 MiB
/dev/sda3 - NTFS - Acer - Size = 488.27 GiB - Used = 27.17 GiB - Unused = 461.11 GiB
/dev/sda4 - unknown - Size = 92.79 GiB
I suspect that the unallocated 7.84 MiB is the cause of the problem and that PartedMagic realigned the "Acer" partition.
I imagine that PQSERVICE contains recovery data of some sort (like Acronis)?
I used to have Windows 7 which works flawlessly... I used to have linux Mint 11 dual booting with Windows 7, I recently upgraded to Linux Mint 12 and from that upgrade I cannot see the windows 7 option in the boot menu.. I tried to reinstall the boot loader of windows 7 from the Windows 7 CD but when I press "Repair Your Computer" then it does not show any operating system existing on my computer... install the boot menu in the MBR again.

View 6 Replies View Related2 Days ago my desktop running windows 7 ultimate 64- bits suddenly crashed, showing nothing but a black screen a bit less than a minute after starting up a game. A few seconds later my computer automatically rebooted and the repair tool launched. After it was done I took a look at the report and all it could find that was broken was ci.dll, the same as in previously mentioned topic. I ran CHKDSK and scf /scannow after that, but they couldnt fix anything or find any bad sectors. I could not boot windows unless i disabled driver signing as well, however I never get any BSOD's. My system is also a bit slower as well, but not that slow. After looking at the previously mentioned topic i downloaded FRTS64 and ran it as well, I've attached the log. (No, I did not run the code that you warned not to use on a different system and on a different machine )I'm also experiencing the same browser issues. When i enter an invalid URL I'm being forwarded to the url... website, my ISP. Also the first two times I tried to open my browser nothing happened. I waited about 15 seconds, tried again and then it opened.
I think it might be a virus as well, im using P2P a lot as well though i havent downloaded anything weird in a long while. My last 100-ish downloads (all fansubs for 2 anime series) have all come from the same site which i trust. however i did recently download a patch for a game, but that came from a site that is also used very frequently, and i havent heard of anything similar from friends/friendly gamers who downloaded the same patch.

I just tried to install an old IDE hard drive (via a SATA converter card ) as a slave and managed to screw up windows 7 boot-up. The system initially booted up fine but didn't see the new drive. After checking to see if all the ports were enabled in the bios I tried again. The system then didn't see any hard drives. I pulled out the IDE and re-started. The system now will see the boot hard drive but will not boot in either safe or normal modes.
