View 2 RepliesSuddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.
- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.
I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi
My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.

Every time I boot there a list that I have to choose. When I choose the other windows 7, I'm shocked that I still have windows 7 ultimate.I think it serves as the dual boot..I mean dual os.. I can run home premium, and also i can run ultimate.. Now I want to get rid of windows 7 ultimate, which is my first os... I know how to delete, but I'm not sure if it will give any problems...I type msconfig I see the boot list try to delete since
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe first problem was that it kept booting into the windows startup repair. For a split second i can see windows 7 loading but then it automatically went to the startup repair , after many many reboots i opened the command prompt in windows startup repair and tried fixing the master reboot. Now it gets stuck at loading operating system.Even when i try to boot from the windows 7 CD and Truecrypt rescue disk it still gets stuck at loading operating system. The whole harddrive was encrypted with truecrypt and it use to go to truecrypt bootloader after loading the operating system but it doesn't do that anymore.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just shipped my computer out of the UK. One of the HHDs my OS was RAID 0ed to broke. Obviously I got a missing operating system error from that. So then I deleted the RAID volume and changed my boot 1st priority to my DVD drive so i could reinstall Windows on the hdd that's still alive at least.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using my new desktop for the last couple of months. Didn't have any problems until all of a sudden my computer just completely shut down and restarted while I was using it. And now it cannot boot, it just comes up with a 'Missing Operating System' message! I went into BIOS and it still detects my hard drive.
I booted from my Windows 7 CD and it looks like its going to load from my CD, and then it just stalls and comes up with the same message.. 'Missing Operating System'
So the other day I wake up to log on to my Alienware M17x m1, which was running windows 7 ultimate x64 sp1. As it's booting up, I see the message operating system missing. So I grab my USB thumb drive (my cd/DVD drive does not work, thus I have to use windows 7 on USB). Tried to reinstall windows that way, but was getting some partition error of some sort. Now when I try to boot up with USB, I can't even get to the windows 7 installation screen. I get - The Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid OS entry.

I have my hard drive partitioned to boot Windows 7 and Kubuntu 10.04. The default operating system is set to Kubuntu but I would like to change this to Windows 7.
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy computer crashed last night and when I have tried to switch it on since it gives me the above message.I have tried entering setup by pressing F2 and changing the hard disk to be the primary boot device, but the same thing occurs.I have created a Windows 7 32-Bit recovery disk by downloading the iso file on my dad's pc and burning that to a dvd. I am able to load this, but when it first starts up it has a table supposed to list operating systems but it is blank and I cannor select anything. It says if my operating system isn't listed, "click load drivers and install drivers for your hard disks" but I don't know where on earth these are located and neither does google seem to.then working through the option on the menu:
-if I click start-up repair it tells me "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically"
-if I click system restore I get an error message saying I must specify which windows installation to restore
-if I click system image recover it gives me an error message saying "windows cannot find a system image on this computer" and if I try to select one none appear.
I made the mistake of putting W7 on a small partition of the 160GB D drive. I was not aware that much of windows 7 programing would not allow me to change the destination to install and insists on installing on the OS drive. I am looking for a way to copy, move or coerce all of the current system onto another drive without erasing that drive.
View 13 Replies View RelatedIt all started when I realized I downloaded the 32 bit operating system on my desktop. Now however, I got a BSOD when I inserted the CD into the desktop. People around the internet said that you must go ahead and format the drive, So, I went ahead and did that. Thus deleting the operating system in the process. Now, When I try downloading the operating system, I get this message:Boot MGR is missing. restart the computer.I have tried everything. Using my laptop to make a USB Drive to boot it up. I cannot do that because my laptop is a 32 bit operating system, and I want a 64 bit. Please, The motherboard is a M5A 78L-M LX Plus with an AMD chipset. The monitors work fine and everything works until the boot MGR Pops up. I am puzzled because while working on computers in school, this only popped up when the operating system was on the harddrive. However, I cannot do anything at all.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLast night, I built my first desktop machine. Most of my components were brand new, but I kept my old hard drive.(Which contained my Windows Home Premium 64 bit OS on it.)
When I finally went to power it up for the first time, it booted up normally, and then when it goes to the black screen with the colors swirling together to make the windows logo, right away it quickly flashed to a blue screen and then restarted.
I then went into the repair windows mode, but the automatic repairs failed. They left me with these details:

The hard drive with the operating sytem was working fine for me yesterday in my old machine. So I am assuming it has to be a problem with the new hardware, or I failed to connect something, or i need to change a setting.
Ran F12 to regain Operating system - long version. Says computer passes everything but there's no operating system found. Did this Twice. Tried "Operating System" CD that came w/ Studio 17 laptop. Hit option to run via CD & never got anywhere after an hour. Tried Reinstall Hardware disk that came w/ laptop. It shows Vista, but laptop came w/ Windows 7. See where it shows the system's checking things out, but never get anywhere.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just recently installed one of my favorite old games, Starcaft. after playing it for about a week I've found out that there is a 100 milisecond delay on any action you make when using Windows 7. I desided to hook up my old hard drive and It's telling me that it's corrupt, has a virus, I believe because the mother board doesn't recognize it I think. Is there any way that I'd be able to get that hard drive working or maybe ever use it as a second drive, some how?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm been working on this problem for over a day now and now I'm stumped.I've read dozens of threads and blogs all over the internet concerning this "operating system not found" problem but none of their problems seem to be the problem that I have.My computer just got extremely laggy and froze into a BSOD (blue screen of death) before turning off and showing me the "operating system not found" message during every boot.Usually when this problem showed up, it turned out to be a hard drive failure, but when I checked my bios, it listed my hard drive as 320gb. (So I'm guessing this has nothing or little to do with my hard drive.)
Here are the things I have tried: Safe modesThe "Launch Startup Repair" (ends up with at start up background and doesn't progress any further)The "Windows Memory Diagnostic""Last Known Good configuration"I've transfered the windows 7 .iso to a bootable usb and started up the laptop it got to the Install Now window and when I press that, the window closes and it shows "setup starting" and just stays like that. The only part that seems to be working like it's supposed to is the quick start/splashtop browser option that doesn't startup anything. (It only opens a browser for internet use and no other programs).I'm guessing the next step should be to open up my laptop and see if any of the cables are loose.ut after that I don't know what else I could do.
Edit- I have just checked and now the operating system not found message doesn't show up. when I start up with regular settings, it just gets to a blue screen and restarts.
