View 4 Replies View RelatedSuddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.
- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.
I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi
My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.
If I were to install Win 7 on a clean dual hard drive system, where would the BCD be located?
I think I can recall one case where Win 7 went onto a single drive system (where BCD can only be on C) only to find BCD moved to D drive when a second drive was plugged in.
These kinds of issues can bring a backup / restore strategy to it's knees. I've had a case where I could restore everything but the BCD, may as well have had no backup because the restored image could not be booted!
Can the BCD be bolted down to a specific drive? Or, is there a smarter way to handle the BCD from a backup perspective?
i have XP installed in my 320GB Hard disk having 2 partitionsPart XP used for Data unused part i installed windows7 on 3 unused part. Now i get the dual boot but the

View 7 Replies View RelatedI had Windows XP Pro running on my PC and I've installed Windows 7 using dual-boot.I want to create a command line BAT file that will allow me to change the default OS system before I boot. For example If I'm working on XP and wants 7 to start-up automatically then I'll execute the batch file and it will manipulate the boot info so that i won't have to select it, and if i work in Windos 7 and want to automatically restart to xp i will run another BAT file.I was able to do it in windows 7 using the command line bcdedit.exe application tha can control any aspect of the boot settings, but i couldn't find anyway to control the boot settings from within XP because the boot "belongs" to windows 7 and XP doesn't even "know it" or able to access it.
However I have a third-party application able to do that called VISTABOOTPRO, so i can assume it is indeed possible, but i want to create a simple one-click procedure to do it for me.
I recently bought a vaio VPCX113KG off ebay. After a month of use the pc wont boot. it comes up as "operating system not found" but the laptop doesn't have an optical drive and I can find downloadable recovery media. What should I do? I think the hard disk is being detected in the bios.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just shipped my computer out of the UK. One of the HHDs my OS was RAID 0ed to broke. Obviously I got a missing operating system error from that. So then I deleted the RAID volume and changed my boot 1st priority to my DVD drive so i could reinstall Windows on the hdd that's still alive at least.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using my new desktop for the last couple of months. Didn't have any problems until all of a sudden my computer just completely shut down and restarted while I was using it. And now it cannot boot, it just comes up with a 'Missing Operating System' message! I went into BIOS and it still detects my hard drive.
I booted from my Windows 7 CD and it looks like its going to load from my CD, and then it just stalls and comes up with the same message.. 'Missing Operating System'
So the other day I wake up to log on to my Alienware M17x m1, which was running windows 7 ultimate x64 sp1. As it's booting up, I see the message operating system missing. So I grab my USB thumb drive (my cd/DVD drive does not work, thus I have to use windows 7 on USB). Tried to reinstall windows that way, but was getting some partition error of some sort. Now when I try to boot up with USB, I can't even get to the windows 7 installation screen. I get - The Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid OS entry.

my computer crashed last night and when I have tried to switch it on since it gives me the above message.I have tried entering setup by pressing F2 and changing the hard disk to be the primary boot device, but the same thing occurs.I have created a Windows 7 32-Bit recovery disk by downloading the iso file on my dad's pc and burning that to a dvd. I am able to load this, but when it first starts up it has a table supposed to list operating systems but it is blank and I cannor select anything. It says if my operating system isn't listed, "click load drivers and install drivers for your hard disks" but I don't know where on earth these are located and neither does google seem to.then working through the option on the menu:
-if I click start-up repair it tells me "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically"
-if I click system restore I get an error message saying I must specify which windows installation to restore
-if I click system image recover it gives me an error message saying "windows cannot find a system image on this computer" and if I try to select one none appear.
I made the mistake of putting W7 on a small partition of the 160GB D drive. I was not aware that much of windows 7 programing would not allow me to change the destination to install and insists on installing on the OS drive. I am looking for a way to copy, move or coerce all of the current system onto another drive without erasing that drive.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIt all started when I realized I downloaded the 32 bit operating system on my desktop. Now however, I got a BSOD when I inserted the CD into the desktop. People around the internet said that you must go ahead and format the drive, So, I went ahead and did that. Thus deleting the operating system in the process. Now, When I try downloading the operating system, I get this message:Boot MGR is missing. restart the computer.I have tried everything. Using my laptop to make a USB Drive to boot it up. I cannot do that because my laptop is a 32 bit operating system, and I want a 64 bit. Please, The motherboard is a M5A 78L-M LX Plus with an AMD chipset. The monitors work fine and everything works until the boot MGR Pops up. I am puzzled because while working on computers in school, this only popped up when the operating system was on the harddrive. However, I cannot do anything at all.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe first problem was that it kept booting into the windows startup repair. For a split second i can see windows 7 loading but then it automatically went to the startup repair , after many many reboots i opened the command prompt in windows startup repair and tried fixing the master reboot. Now it gets stuck at loading operating system.Even when i try to boot from the windows 7 CD and Truecrypt rescue disk it still gets stuck at loading operating system. The whole harddrive was encrypted with truecrypt and it use to go to truecrypt bootloader after loading the operating system but it doesn't do that anymore.

I then went into the repair windows mode, but the automatic repairs failed. They left me with these details:

The hard drive with the operating sytem was working fine for me yesterday in my old machine. So I am assuming it has to be a problem with the new hardware, or I failed to connect something, or i need to change a setting.
I want to make a recovery disc to reset my entire 4 partition dual boot hard drive back to its current state. the recovery would reset both xp and win 7 which i have dual booting. can i make one single image to do this without it screwing up my boot loaders etc? what should i use? 3rd party software?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just given my Dad my old PC, to replace his ancient one from around 2000.It has a SATA hard drive with Windows 7 installed on it. The problem is he can't use his old printer with Windows 7. There is an available driver, but when I attempt to extract it, the message says there isn't enough storage space. This seems a bit crazy to be honest, as it;s not a very big hard drive (75GB total), but there is around 30GB free.Anyway, unless you guys have a solution to that problem I was going to take his old hard drive (80GB) and put XP on it and make a dual boot setup. Then he could use his printer in that at least. I was wondering though if I could simply pop that one into the new machine as it does currently have a recently installed copy of XP on it. I am aware that this may cause issues, but I wanted some good advice.
Also, this hard drive is an old style one (the one with the jumper) settings and I only have one connection on the motherboard for it. So I have had to connect the DVD drive and the hard drive on the same cable. I know that's not ideal, but it seems like there isn't another option. That won't cause problems with the dual boot setup will it?
I have:
4 hard drives
1 160 gigabyte at sata controller 0 position 0
1 64 gigabyte at 0 1
2 bluesy drives at 1 2 & 3
1 1tb drive at 1 4
1 2tb drive at 1 5
The 1 tb is a Debian system running ext4
The 2 tb is a data drive running ext4
The 64 gb is empty And the 160 is empty and where I intend to install windows However it seems that I can't it is not partitioned however when ever I say that it is to be partitioned through the windows install partitioner it again says that it's invalid and I can not continue?
