View 3 RepliesSomething has recently happened to my mouse pointer icon. It is split in half by a gap of about a 1/16", there is a short vertical line attached to the tail as well, and it will disappear when you mouse over address/ text box. This will also occur when the icon changes from the pointer to the loading circle. It is split in half as well.I've tried changing the theme, color and the pointer icon and the issue persisted. When I changed the option to no theme only the right half of the pointer appeared. One other thing changed and I'm having trouble explaining this part; the position where the mouse "point" is has moved from the end of the arrow to right side end of what remains of the pointer.The only success in restoring normal pointer function was to activate the tail option.However this doesn't correct whatever is wrong here. I should also note that I have only one monitor..It looks something like this but it is the standard size.

I'm assuming it's a BIOS driver problem, but i'll leave it up to you guys to tell me, you're the experts :P I also tried doing a system restore, but for whatever reason when I try it just says the restore is initializing and it sits on that screen and never does anything. I've left it for about an hour before and still nothing, not real sure what the problem is there either. Right now I'm running the laptop off safe mode with networking and it's working fine, hopefully it's just a driver problem I can fix.
I'm on Windows 7 32bit and let me know if you need any more information.
I dont know how long before my system will crash again. I just upgraded from 32 bit to 64 bit windows 7 a matter of hours ago, and this never happened in 32 bit (had it for 2 years)...My comp has crashed twice in last 10 minutes with the following error log that will show up when I reboot

Ok I was working on warcraft 3, basically the game increases the gamma (due to an internal setting on it) and would normally reduce it again on exit.
After the crash the gamma on my desktop is too high but also cannot be adjusted, some external setting stuck somewhere.
If I go to the nvidia panel and select "adjust desktop colour settings" "other applications control colour settings" is selected, if I choose "use nvidia settings" then my desktop reverts to normal but of course this stops games adjusting the setting.
So my question is can this situation be recovered if so and how? loading the game again and exiting does not recover the setting.
my computer will only let me go so far on a subject and a white frozen screen apears.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an Advent T9102 and Advent T9308, due to the Advent T9102 being really old and having a few problems and consistently crashing, I decided to take the Hard Drive out of it and make use of it in my Advent T9308 and reformat the whole machine and install Windows 7. Due to my Advent T9308 being Windows XP I first upgraded it to Windows Vista to get all the necessary Windows 7 drivers. Everything worked great once upgraded to Windows Vista. I then used my USB stick to install Windows 7.
When I restarted the Advent T9308 I booted the USB stick and it started loading the Windows files, I deleted all the partitions on the hard drives and reformatted the drives. The installation screen came up and I followed the screen prompts. When it got to the installing Windows part it shot the percentage straight up for the "Copying Windows files" which was odd, but then the "Expanding Windows files" it froze at 1%, I knew it froze because I left it for 30mins and it didn't go up a percentage. I decided to hold the power button for 5 seconds and restart the machine.
On restart the machine got stuck on the very first Advent screen, it currently has "Press DEL to run Setup, Press TAB to display BIOS POST Message", but it doesn't matter what button I press on the keyboard nothing loads up? Obviously no Windows will load up as I deleted the Windows partitions. I am just trying to get the machine to boot up the USB, or, CD so I can install Windows 7, but the machine wont get past the first screen, just before the post bios screen. The machine fans are spinning, the motherboard light is on, no beeps at start up, if you just listened to it it sounds like everything is ok, but its not getting past the Advent first screen?
Recently re installed windows 7 from my windows 7 disc.Hard drive was formatted.Worked fine for about 4 weeks then it crash dumped.When i re start the laptop it goes to windows error page and goes to system repair or start windows normally. Either of these starts windows then goes blank and re starts.When i go into the bios and boot from a disc it starts windows but then the windows screen shows but it has no start up and just freezes. I have tried to re install windows again and it get to the language settings page and the goes starting windows and it does not do anymore just stays on the strating windows page.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a year old Toshiba laptop that just stopped booting up this week. Worked fine Sunday, then Monday it would not start. Black screen with the option to repair or start normally. Repair goes through the motions and then states it was unsuccessful. Starting normally will eventually reach the desktop, but nothing will function at that point. The pointer is in perpetual hourglass when held over the task bar. Nothing, such as Explorer, will start.I pulled the hard drive out and connected it to another Win 7 computer via SATA/USB cable set. Initially, I could see the drive and access the files. Foolishly, I chose to run an antivirus before backing up the files. I was concerned about backing up the potential problem. MalwareBytes did not identify any malicious files, but Semantic threw up a warning about Yontoon-S.exe, so I attempted to delete it via Explorer. That action locked up Explorer. I rebooted the host computer. I should have backed up first because now I am unable to see the files. Explorer will assign the drive a letter, but when I select the drive to do anything, Explorer thinks about it for some time and then puts up a message that the drive must be formatted before it can be used. I do not want to reformat until I recover my data first. I tried to use SeaTools to diagnose drive problems. Drive fails the short generic test. I am not able to run Check Disk because Explorer thinks the drive must be formatted first. How can I get to the data before reformatting?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI brought a HP Pavilion laptop from ebay quite a while ago now, the only problem listed was that the battery didn't work. The laptop worked fine for months and then it started to crash, when it crashed I couldn't do anything, the mouse wouldn't move and none of the keys would work either so all I could do was hold the power button in to shut it down. The charge light seems to flash just before the laptop crashes. I thought the problem might of been with the battery so I brought a new battery for the laptop. It still wouldn't recognise there was a battery plugged in, sometimes it won't have a red cross on the battery but will say "plugged in but not charging". I have noticed now that when the laptop does crash if I unplug the charger for a second and plug it back in (as the charge doesn't hold on the battery) the laptop will start working again. I was thinking the problem may lie with the charger or the bit inside the laptop the charger plugs into.

EDIT: Now it's doing it constantly, and after some time, mouse and keyboard wont respond.also, when the crash starts, it sounds like usb being plugged in.
I experience intermittent black screen (loss of screen picture) and accompanied by a loud humming sound in my LCD screen when playing with Plants versus Zombies.
This happens even when i am even running the game using XP Mode.
I have to turn off the PC power-off.
Reboot and in Safe Mode
Then shut down my PC
Warm start again the PC.

I am trying to repair a 1.5 year-old HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Home Premium 64. This machine is used as the main office computer in a small doctor's office. In spite of my warnings, anti-virus software was not installed until it was too lateThere was a major issue about seven months ago that required another company to repairThe problem is explorer.exe will not run. Double-clicking a shortcut on the desktop, clicking the text name of a program from the Start menu, and even in the cmd results in the same response, a dialog box pops up stating windows explorer has stopped working.
windows is checking for a solution to the problem. followed by another box stating windows explorer is restarting. But the requested application never starts. I have run the Ultimate Boot CD 4 Win, replaced the hard drive and cloned all data, run numerous registry scans, malware scans and antivirus scans. Initially removing over 1500 virus/malware hits and over 1400 registry errors. But the main problem persists, explorer.exe won't open programs.
one day it suddenly crashed while i was watching a movie. it displayed random patterns on screen. kinda like part of the image from the video is on the screen then a black strip and random colors. I restarted the unit to safe mode and left it on and browsed the net and downloaded some big files for how many hours and nothing happened.. there are also times when windows is still loading with the windows logo on screen, it crashes. there are also times when the login screen is displayed and it crashes. it just crashes randomly! so i tried to reformat it. i deleted the partitions and created a new one, formatted it then fresh installed windows 7 ( my previous OS is windows 7 by the way) and started installing the basic drivers and after a few hours, it crashed again...thinking that the driver installed might not be compatible, i tried another fresh install of windows (same execution, delete partition, create, install OS) and this time, without installing the drivers, it crashed again after a few hours... sometimes it crashes immediately after turning it on from cold start!
