Windows 7 Won't Startup Properly - Stuck In Startup Repair Loop
Feb 18, 2012I have a Dell Inspiron and a while ago I shut down my PC and the next morning I was faced with options to repair my computer. It hung on the screen for ages before it actually came up with startup repair and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later, everything got very slow and started to freeze a lot and before long, booting the computer got very slow as well as it hung for about ten minutes on a black screen after the 'welcome' screen before finally starting up. I decided to reinstall the operating system (I did NOT reformat the C drive), so I borrowed my Grandma's external hard drive and copied my files. After reinstalling using a Dell Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium Re-Installation DVD, I copied and deleted the files off the external hard drive onto my PC (I didn't know it would create a Windows.old folder) and started installing programs. Then I left it overnight to install quite a big program. This morning, somehow it had turned off. I turned it on and it gave me the safe mode options and a 'start windows normally' option. I chose the latter and after typing my password it hung on the welcome screen again. I left it for ages and it just went back to the user login screen again. I pressed the red button in the corner to shut it down but it just hung once again on an empty screen so I did a hard shutdown (held down the power button). I turned it on again...startup repair. It gave me the option for system restore, which I did (then realising when it finished that I hadn't made a backup). I booted it, and again it wouldn't start properly. At this time, safe mode booted fine. After trying various things (even using a compressed air can to get rid of dust) and a few hard shutdowns, suddenly every option from the advanced boot menu took me to startup repair except 'Repair your Computer' which gave the normal options for repair (although now it only gives me 2, Startup Repair and DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Now when I do startup repair, some times it says it has fixed the problem, and sometimes it says it cannot be fixed automatically and gives me information on the problem (a few things it said were: 'StartupRepairOffline', 'AutoFailover' and 'CorruptRegistry').
I can't reinstall my computer because then I would lose my precious files.
Is there some way I can save my files and reinstall or even just save my files somehow or am I screwed?

Feb 22, 2012I am having a problem with windows 7, when i start the computer it says loading files and then goes directly to startup repair. I cant even get into the computer in safe mode or anything else by pressing f8 when istartup. It just keeps on this startup repair loop.Its states startup repair checking for problems, it attempts repairs but then it says it cant repair this computer automatically. I have tried system restore, sytem image recovery and tried to restore the computer to its factory state. when i try that i get a error 0x4001001300001002. I didnt get any recovery disks when i bought the computer either.

Here is the problem: i was trying to uninstall the trial version of office 2010 (after failing to activate it properly) and after going into control panel and clicking on "uninstall" to remove the office 2010 software, the computer automatically shut down and restarted and went into startup repair. after running this a couple of times, it said it was unable to fix the problems and asked to send the report to microsoft. then it just shut off by itself. i turned it back on and chose to "start windows normally." even then it went into startup repair and was again unable to fix the problems. then it just became stuck with a blank screen so i had to force power off. now i am not sure what to do. i don't want to keep restarting it only to go into startup repair and burn something out by turning it on and off so frequently.

Jan 22, 2012So, I'm not exactly sure what I did. I was clearing up some space on my computer after using the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of this Norton trial popup that came up everytime I booted my computer. Now, after it told me to restart, it seems to be stuck in an endless boot cycle that resets itself after showing the Windows logo. I've since tried running startup repair, which freezes as it shows the progress bar for 'Windows is loading files'. Safe mode will not work, either. It just sends it back into the boot cycle. Not sure what to do at this point. My computer came pre-installed with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, so I don't have any startup discs.

Laptop Stuck In Startup Repair And Can't?
Apr 30, 2012I have a Dell Inspiron N4010 running Windows 7. Last night I was printing off PDF files and listening to a CD when the song that was playing got stuck and the print job I'd just ordered stalled. Then a horrible, loud, relentless sort of whirring noise came out of the speakers and wouldn't stop and the computer was completely unresponsive. This has happened before, last December, and I did what I did then...I just forcibly shut it down. When I started it back up, I could choose between starting normally or running Startup Repair, which was recommended. I swear I chose to start normally, but I can't be totally sure. I walked out of the room to do a couple things and when I went back I saw Startup Repair running and it said it could take over an hour. I had to leave for work in 20 minutes, so I decided to just leave it on. 9 hours later, when I got home, it was STILL going. I tried to cancel, and was informed that the current operation could not be canceled. I forced a shut down again (maybe not the brightest thing but I couldn't think of anything else) and even disconnected the battery. Then I started it up...got the same choice and chose to start Windows...and Startup Repair started again. I managed to cancel and shut down with the OFF button again. Restarted and chose Windows...same thing. Restarted and chose Setup Repair, same result. I cannot do or open anything. I don't know if putting the startup discs in it would even register...and I'm not sure I even have any, as Windows 7 came pre-installed. I haven't backed up my hard drive in a loooong time and I can't afford a new machine.

Whenever I boot up the netbook it goes right into startup repair, without the option to cancel it, even if I try to start windows in safe mode (or any other startup options for that matter), the system launches the startup repair.The repair itself runs fine (doesn't freeze or antyhing like that), however it is never able to fix the issue ("Startup Repair is unable to repair this computer automatically").

Stuck On Startup Repair Screen, Keeps Looping?
Jul 9, 2012My granddaughter has a laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed. I went to turn it on after charging it and the Startup Repair window comes up. I can't get any System Repair options except for Startup Repair which can not repair the computer automatically. This is the problem details listed:

Computer Getting Stuck At Startup Screen - Repair Unsuccessful
Jun 2, 2011Recently my desktop has started having issues. I purchased it new in january and within this last month when I start it, it gets stuck in the startup screen. When I try to do startup repair it always is unsuccessful. When I view the details it lists this "problem signature 07: Bad patch" I have tried doing a system restore to every point it lists and it says "the instruction at 0xfba8ca53 referenced memory at 0x06e2f90f. The memory could not be read. Click ok to terminate". When I try to enter safe mode it doesn't work either.

I've been stuck on the startup repair for almost 5 hours saying that it's repairing my hard drive or whatever (i forget exactly what it said), I first booted linux to check the SMART data on the HDD (i now know that I can do it with HBCD too) it came back all fine. I am now running Hirens Boot CD and DRevitalise to scan and repair bad sectors.
System Specs:
i5 3570k @ stock
MSI Z77 GD55 BIOS Version 1.6
8GB Kingston HyperX 1600mhz
Running HD4000 graphics
500GB Blue WD HDD
I do have a DxDiag on the desktop of the pc in question which I could get if needed (to tired to do now)
Edit: Reinstalling is not an option I will consider unless there is nothing else that I can do.
Edit: Turns out there is a tool from WD for HDD testing, am running that now instead if the last one.
Stuck On Boot Logo After Fresh Install
Sep 19, 2009I wanted to dual boot Win 7 64 with my vista 32 but after the install completes and the computer reboots it hangs on the Win 7 boot logo and then just stays there until i turn off the power button. It's kinda like the problem when you have a USB plugged in and the boot logo hangs except there's nothing plugged into the comp. Reinstalled again the the same result. When I look at the win 7 drive from vista it looks like all the files are all there but it just keeps hanging on that logo =(. What should I do?
Also when i try and boot into safemode it hangs on "Classpnp.sys"
I've looked elsewhere and seen that people solved this problem by updating bios but I have the latest version of mine =(
I've tried EVERY boot option in F8 to no avail.

Jun 15, 2010Just put together a brand new computer, Windows installed fine (running x64 bit Ultimate),everything loaded up fine the first time. Then I installed the driver and utility for my network card, and everything seemed fine til I got an internet connection, at which point it froze, and the only fix is a restart. Now every time it boots it freezes, sometimes within 10 seconds of starting, sometimes it doesn't make it past the "Welcome" screen and it'll just freeze. Haven't gotten to use my new machine for more than 20 seconds at a time, extremely annoying. In safe mode there doesn't seem to be a problem, I've had it on for more than 20 mins and it's been fine. Does anyone know where I can start looking to fix this? I've been struggling with this thing for 3 days and I'm running out of ideas. Oct 10, 2009Whilst my sister and family were away this weekend I offered to install Windows 7 Home Premium (x86) on her Toshiba Equium L40-10U laptop.
It was previously running Windows Vista Home Premium, however as it was infested with all kinds of nasties I figured I would kill two birds with one stone.
Anyway, I downloaded the ISO from Technet and burnt it to DVD, updated the BIOS on the laptop (worked fine) and proceeded to install Windows 7 (fresh, not upgrade, completely wiped and started from scratch).
Everything went fine, went through setup and logged on, Windows Update kicked in, perfect.
Had a play around and the machine was running like a dream, so I started installing stuff. As I didn't require ANY extra drivers I installed the RTM version of Microsoft Security Essentials first. I then moved on to Spybot - Search & Destroy etc.
When I restarted the machine it started to boot and got to the Starting Windows screen, however the Windows animation didn't appear, I waited, and waited, and nothing. Restarted again and it went to the Startup Repair option, did that, found nothing, restarted, and again it was stuck at the Starting Windows screen.
I rebooted and tried for Safe Mode, which very weirdly failed, it said loading and again just sat there.
Failing that I figured either bad install and/or bad burn. Re-dwonloaded ISO, burnt new DVD, reinstalled. Did the same again.
I decided I would give it a quick clean just to be safe, so I gave it a blast with some compressed air. Tried again, installed fine, Windows Update fine, first restart and it was dead again.
I have since tried installing without letting Windows Update connect, no joy, I then ran CrystalDisk to check the HD and that reported as all fine.
I'm going to leave it running Memtest overnight/overmorning and see what that says, whilst I download Windows Vista in the hope that if all else fails I can revert to that.
So, can anyone shed any light on this or offer me any help?

May 11, 2011I am pretty sure that a virus cause this, right before my computer shut down on it's own my anti virus popped up and said that a Trojan was found but I didn't have to do anything. Then the computer shut down and when it restartrd started to load files and then go into startup repair, only it couldn't fix it. I tried a restore, but again it said that the startup files wern't there. I just quickly scanned the diagnostic details and noticed something that said "boot critical file C:CI.dll is corrupt".

It does say an external device may be causing the problem but nothing id connected. I have tried all the options. It will not go to a previous point. I'm using my other built right now coz I have to work. I don't remember what updates I did last night but I do remember the dvd drive firmware was updated.I popped in the system restore disc, start it up and the same page appears: Start with windows start up or Start windows normally. Tried both and neither one of them would bring up system restore. This built was only a month old and was hardly used so far so no system restore point was created at this point. I have files in it that I would like to keep but I can't get to them right now so a clean fresh install is needed but I can't get it up.
Windows 7 Stuck In YSstem Repair Screen
Dec 31, 2011My laptop is stuck in the system repair screen and just stays there. Here's the background. His laptop was dog slow when he came home from college. The only way to boot it was in safe mode. I suspected a virus and ran multiple AV checks recommended on the Windows 7 support forum. No virus was found. Checkdisk and sfc/ scannow from cmd also failed to complete. Based on additional Forum info, I then tried to repair using the restore disks I made when I bought the Dell laptop. It worked fine until starting the repair and then hung at 1%. Eventually I turned off the power. Next I tried doing a custom Win 7 installation from a new disk (a fresh copy of Windows 7). It still tries to repair from the fresh Windows DVD and hangs on the system repair screen. I have powered off and tried to get back to safe mode unsuccessfully. How do I get out of this loop? BTW, it has not blue-screened at all.
