[BSOD] Windows Crashes On Sleep
Jun 5, 2012
I've been running into a strange BSOD with Windows 7. I'm running a Lenovo X220 notebook, Intel i3 2.1 GHz machine. Recently, whenever I put my computer to sleep or hibernate, Windows fails to sleep and I receive a shutdown error upon restarting Windows.
I have already run Memtest, which confirmed the health of my RAM, but I still can't seem to figure this one out.

I am using windows 7 ultimate and facing great problem. Whenever I put my PC to sleep, on resuming it crashes giving a blue screen of death message. I am never able to put my PC on sleep which quite inconvenient. Actually my video card does not support windows 7 aero or there are no WDDM drivers available for my card which is ATI RADEON 9250. I am ready to upload any crash minidump files or any other log files. Also tell me if any WDDM drivers are there for my video card as I am not able to get them anywhere. Is this video card the only reason for the problem

My Windows 7 64-bit laptop crashes when I return to my computer after sleep/hibernate.
I cannot set up symbols on MS debugger (after many attempts) I have attached screenshots of cpu-z (both tabs) and my event viewer which lists 24 critical failures, all event ID 41: "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
p.s. Dunno if this is important but the machine is a Sony Vaio but I have uninstalled all sony bloat ware (except Vaio Control Center)

I installed Windows 7 on my computer 1 month ago. It was working great until last week. Now it crashes almost every time I wake it up from sleep mode.I tried to attach the minidump files but got the message that I don't have permission. I am logged in as the administrator so not sure why I'm having this problem.

Whenever I press the sleep button on my computer, or when I leave it idle and it goes to sleep by itself, I get a blue screen of death. I would really like to solve thiNow, this computer came with an AMD video card, but I uninstalled those drivers and took out the video card and installed a GTX 570 from EVGA. The drivers are up to date, so I am pretty sure the new hardware is installed correctly. Furthermore, it was not doing this for the first few months of having the video card installed. This is very recent, so I don't understand what it could be

After the computer has been put to sleep a couple of times without rebooting Google News, some times CNN and several other web crash Firefox. Sometimes restarting Firefox allows me to open the website, sometimes it just keeps crashing. Rebooting "fixes" the problem but this tells me that Sleep is actually the problem. I notice that memory usage after a sleep is about 30% than after a sleep. This tells me that some processes are not "waking up".
I have only started using Sleep in the last couple of weeks so that's why I'm pretty sure is a Sleep/Firefox problem. Your comments are solicited.

Multiple times when ive put my laptop into sleep mode it has crashed when I turn it back on. It does not do it every time, just majority. After I have turned my laptop off normally and then turned it back on I get the windows has crashed screen, asking me if I would like to start my computer in safe mode or normal. I do not get a BSOD. The error message when i log back in says the files that describe the problem are: C:WindowsMEMORY.DMP.

My computer has been crashing every time it goes into sleep mode. I just bought it 2 months ago, so this is especially troubling. First four days of leaving it on this game my PC was fine, it came through the night, however the past 3 nights my PC has crashed different times throughout the nights and all data I had on the game lost. I also have a memdump from a program called WhoCrashed, ill post below along with my system specs.

Over the last week, my laptop has started to occasionally crash and switch off when it's in sleep mode - after this happens, it won't turn on when the power button is pushed, it'll only work again when it's plugged in. Once it's switched on again I get the black screen that tells me it wasn't shut down properly. I've followed several of the suggestions I've seen on various threads (the power settings upon closing lid are set at 'sleep', hybrid sleep is switched off, I keep it well ventilated, the drivers and BIOS are updated) and still it happens. I haven't done anything significantly different on the laptop, no new installations or updates that I can remember, it runs perfectly fine on battery power when it's awake, nothing else at all seems wrong. I only updated drivers and BIOS etc. after the first few times this happened.
I'm sure it's significant that the laptop is usually fine in sleep mode (even on battery power) and wakes up properly if it's been sat still in one place, and it only seems to crash while I'm moving it i.e. the power light is on when I pick the laptop up, I carry it to another room, set it down and the light has gone off. Also, in one instance after moving it I successfully woke the laptop from sleep, went to plug it in, and when I looked it again it had turned off.
It's still under warranty for another 60 days so I plan to take it in to be checked (I'm not smart enough to start taking apart a laptop, much less actually understand how to fix it), but until I can get to the store next week I'd really like to know what this could be.

I have a homebuilt system that I have had for a little over a year now. I am currently having an issue when waking my computer from sleep. When I wake the computer, I can see the machine turn on and start up (LED fans light up) but the monitor stays black. It stays like that and my only option is to do a hard reset.
After resetting the computer, it says its resuming windows and lets me login, but it runs very slow for a while. On my next restart, the computer "checks the disk for consistency", and then after that everything is normal again.
This doesn't happen every time I put it to sleep, but it has been happening a lot lately. I had this issue last year, but it just stopped, and i can't remember if I had done anything to fix it. I did not have this problem again until sometime last week. The only thing I did last week was I installed the new drivers for my video card and uninstalled/reinstalled MSI afterburner.

I've been having this problem where my envy 14 laptop will attempt to go into sleep mode (or i'll close the lid) when in reality the screen just shuts off and everything else continues to run. At this point I can't wake the computer up and I have to hard reboot. If i leave the laptop in this pseudo sleep long enough it will just crash and I get the safe mode options upon rebooting.
I've rolled back graphics drivers and then updated again to no avail, I've run a system restore to no avail, I've reset all the power management settings to allow for sleep and changed the multimedia sharing options to allow for sleep as well, I've run multiple anti virus scans AND turned off all unnecessary start up programs, still, to no avail.
I have a lot of memory.dmp files all from this past week, how would i go about sharing and reading one of those?

I have a Dell Latitude E6420 with an Intel Core i7 processor and 4gb of RAM. Lately, my computer has become very sluggish; especially after coming out of sleep mode to the point I have to restart to have a decent performance. More importantly, often when in sleep mode or hibernation, the computer crashes. I've run two spyware programs (spybot and Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware) which removed a few issues, but the core problems persist. I've updated all microsoft programs (windows and office), run Norton virus scans, and CCleaner, but no change. Finally, I must say that at times the laptop runs really hot. That was never the case before.

Recently when entering sleep mode, the laptop does not go to sleep but crashes. When I go to restart the laptop, I get the windows as recovered from an unexpected shut down. However I have noticed it does not crash, when I first turn the laptop on and at the choose user screen. Here it goes to sleep fine and resumes fine, any other situation and it crashes.

I have been experiencing BSOD nastiness for the past two weeks. It seems to have started by one of two things. I tried to download a trial version of Corel PSP 4x. This file was downloaded at 7:30 PM on 1-10-12. I opened the file, used it a little, and went to bed. No problems!. That night, Windows downloaded a bunch of updates at about 3am. My wife used the computer that day with no problems. Later that day, another batch of windows updates was installed. That is when trouble started. The updates were:
KB2584146, 2644615, 2631813, 890830, 2538242.
What I have tried (may not be in precise chronological order): I tried to uninstall PSP x4. The uninstall crashed, leaving a partial install. I did a memory test. No problems found.I did a system restore to a restore point before the PSP install, but I did not immediately update the windows updates.Based on the reliability monitor, it looks like this worked until the updates were reinstalled automatically on 1/14. (Maybe, it is a little hard to tell.)Since then I have updated the BOIS (megatrends m4a89TD pro usb3 from version 1101 to version 1901.)Still having problems today. DMP files attached, PerfMon files attached. Misc Info per "BSOD Posting Page"Windows 7 64 bit retail version installed on new build in Feb. 2011.Other system specs included in profile.

I was running a dual boot system with XP and Ubuntu in a 64 bit system. Had no problems whatsoever.
Recently installed Windows 7 in same dual boot system and Windows now crashes frequently. No BSOD- just shuts down quietly to a black screen. At first I suspected a heating problem but the system reboots immediately so overheating does not seem to be an issue.
Ubuntu has never crashed so I assume it is a Windows software problem.
I have not been able to identify an event which might cause this problem. I have run scans for malware and viruses using Spybox Search and Destroy as well as other similar programs.

This is a computer on which Vista x64 originally was installed. I upgraded to Windows 7x64 with the upgrade DVD. It's based on an Asus P6T Deluxe motherboard running SATA RAID0 on a pair of 1 TB HDDs with 6GB of RAM and 2 Pioneer DVD drives. My graphics card is a Matrox M9210 PCIe x16 with dual displays. The computer worked fine until recently, when EAC and dBpoweramp began freezing when ripping CDs. Acronis True Image also freezes when I try to write a bootable CDR. These functions don't work any better in Safe Mode. Other programs function normally, and Acronis works fine except when trying to write to media.
I did a System Restore to the earliest Restore Point that worked, but it wasn't early enough. I have an Acronis complete backup from 6 months ago when I was ripping regularly without incident, but would rather try to fix the problem than backing up the whole drive, then merging in my data files from a current backup.I have scanned with Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG 2012, Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware, and Memtest 86+ (for 3 hours), all of which found no problems. Here are the WhoCrashed reports since the System Restore, both apparently from the same crash while trying to write an Acronis CDR in Safe Mode:windows version: Windows 7 Service Pack 1, 6.1, [CODE]This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: iastor.sys (Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver - x64, Intel Corporation).Google searches haven't turned up a case exactly like this, and I'm unsure of what to do next.

I've been having increasing problems with my Asus g73jh. Love the performance, but been having random crashes concerning video i assumed. Updated the graphics drivers as well as ran a bios flash on the laptop. The unit always has a problem with being moved and I just moved it for the first time in around 6 months (been using it connected to my screen in living room) to bring to class and it crashed with a page fault error when I arrived at class, then again with another bsod when I got home and unpacked it.

I built my own computer last January and installed Windows Vista first and everything worked fine but then I upgraded to Windows 7.In the beginning it worked great, I did get the common problem of every kind of browser crashed every couple of hours and sometimes refused to load up again but i persist and put up with it.Then over the past 3-4 months, I have been getting regular BSOD - They used to be very similar screens and i am not fast enough to jott down the error codes sadly.I maybe receive 2-3 BSoD everyday and the most common issue i am experiencing is when i play World of Warcraft - since these BSoD began, this has been crashing a hell of a lot as well. I cant get an hours play on it without it crashing with the same issue.I put it to the forums with this error log Wow Crash 2/1/13 - Pastebin.com and was told to carry out some actions to see if this could resolve the matter which it did for a very short period of time (ie a day) and then came back with its constant WoWcrashes and BSoD
The BSoD happen when im on and off the game - a lot of the time its when a lot of processes are running, ie several tabs open in my browsers, spotify playing and maybe a couple of folders open - its as if it cant handle it running.I have tried to search for my dumplogs, i was told it was in %systemroot%minidump but its empty and there are no .dmp files on my computer except warcraft ones.

I keep getting BSOD when I try to put my 5 year old HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop in sleep mode, by either tapping the power button, or going through the start menu. This started happening a couple days ago, after Windows did an update.
I've done a system file check and it came up clean, and I also updated my video drivers, but to no avail. I don't really know where to go from here.
