View 6 Replies View RelatedI changed laptops in a docking station and used a drivers CD to install the printer which was attached. Test pages and anything else I try to print goes into the print queue but never prints, finally showing an error. I downloaded the latest drivers from HP and installed them, but this hasn't fixed the problem. The original laptop still prints fine from that docking station. The old laptop was WinXP, this one is Vista. I ran the "FixIt" diagnostics but it said all problems were fixed, and it still won't print.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIf Vista no longer or hasn't been able to install your trusty Laser Jet 1000 printer driver, then you are not alone. The solution is to connect a slower 1.0 USB Hub in between the LaserJet 1000 and Vista. For my particular resolution a Belkin F5U021 USB Hub was the key to success. Once the hub was connected, Vista expeditiously recognized and automatically installed the HP Laser Jet 1000 driver, created for WinXP.....

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install this printer (HP Laserjet P2015d) on my Vista 64 machine. It works fine on my XP Pro machine. HP has posted drivers for this OS/printer configuration (HP LaserJet P2015 Printer series*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center).
However, the installation programs does not work. The installation program does not seem to recognize the printer even when the printer is connected and turned on. Ironically the device (occasionally) shows up on the Vista Device manager panel, but not on the printer panel. The installation instruction mentions that the new hardware wizard should pop up on connecting, but it does not.
I contacted HP support (a nightmarish labyrinth of automated messages). After negotiating through this maize for more than 15 minutes, I finally reach a human. Guess what? They want money to fix their own problem! It is hardly a year old.
I have a Toshiba laptop running Vista home basic. I use an HP laserjet 1100 parallel printer which I plug (via a USB-to-parallel converter cable) into a USB hub which feeds into one of the USB ports on my laptop. Very often, when I try to print (Word document, web page, pdf file, anything) nothing happens until I remove the converter cable from the USB hub and then reconnect it. After I have done this, the printer will then work fine from then on, but will then stop working whenever I reboot the computer. If, when I reach the point at which "nothing happens", I remove and rejoin the converter cable from the printer cable, or remove and rejoin the printer cable from the printer, that doesn't solve the problem. And if I have an extension USB cable joining the USB hub to the converter cable, and remove and rejoin the converter cable from the extension cable, that doesn't solve the problem either. The only thing which works is removing the cable from the USB hub and then reinserting it, and this usually works every time. It's not a big problem, but it's irritating to have to scrabble around about the cables. how I might be able to get my printer to start each time without having to fiddle about with the leads?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI now have Vista Home Premium 64bit. My HP Laserjet 1022 prints just fine... BUT it won't let me position the image on the page the way I want it to. Sometimes I have a 16x22-inch image that I need to print full-size--what I've always done in the past (when I had Windows XP) is print it in four different sections. When I would start to print, it would automatically show me how the image was positioned on the page and I could move it around to get it in the right position to print one-quarter at a time. Now it does not give me that option.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having a difficult time restoring my computer to its factory settings. I already backed up most of my important information on a # of DVD discs. I just can't get Windows Vista (32) to re-install. I tried pressing F-10 when the computer starts and Launch the Vaio Recovery. It went through most of the reset but then the screen just goes blank for a very long time and I'm sure its frozen there. The computer I am trying to reset to factory settings is a Sony Vaio Desktop VGC-LT18E, the model it says on the back of the computer is a PCG-281L. I never made the recovery discs. Is there any other way to get these discs without ordering them through SONY? Online versions? Etc..?

View 8 Replies View Relateda friend has a new sony vaio with vista home premium installed. For some reason it will not connect to my netgear router wirelessly. I have tried everything. I am however not too hot on Vista as this is my first time with it. The adaptor says its on, but when you interegate it and ask why it wont connect it keeps telling me "switch on wireless adaptor capability". In the network connections it is on, the switch on the front right is swiitched on and the wireless network light on the front is on. The network is fine and working as i have my laptop connected to it. All security is present and entered. It seems to be the computer as it doesnt find any networks when there are loads in the area. Am i missing something exceptionally obvious? Does Vista have another "on" switch for this adaptor?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy Sony Vaio (Windows Vista Home Premium) is stuck in "Logging off" mode. No matter what I do, Windows keeps resuming where it left off, which is apparently in Logging Off mode.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe Hard Drive LED light on my Sony Vaio keeps blinking EVERY SECOND. When it's really quiet I can hear it too, it's constantly writing. Constantly. I did my research - read all the threads on the net and so far I have disabled:
Windows index
Windows defender
Windows search
Superfetch
System Restore
Readyboost
Defragmenter
I have uninstalled google desktop.
The system is totally virus and spyware free, and the anti-virus is not scanning (schedule scan disabled). All Vista updates are installed. Nothing has helped. I've run out of things to disable. I'm running Vista Business SP1, Dual Core 2.2 Ghz, 3 Gb RAM.
I have a network with 2 Win XP machines, one Vista machine, and a wired print server with a lan cable from the print server attached to the DSL router. Both XP machines see the print server and the printer and print perfectly. On the vista machine, the print server software is showing the networked printer, but when you send a print request, it just sits there in the print que and never prints. Also, Vista never installed the printer drivers. The printer doesn't show up in any of the printer screens and when I try to add a printer manually, I get the message that I do not have permission to add a printer - even though I am signed in as administrator.
During the install of the print server on the XP machines XP immediately saw the printer and looked for and installed the driver for the printer - not with Vista. I'm sure the error message is a permission problem, but I can't figure out why it won't print and why it doesn't look for the drivers when it can "see" the printer and identifies it through the print server software.
I replaced the XP Home desktop machine (died) that hosts our laser printer. The new box is Windows Vista. After the usual pain of working through issues, it mostly is satisfactory. Two problems remain with network printing. 1) If the host machine (Vista) has fallen into an idle state (I haven't tweaked standard settings), my XP machine is unable to print to the printer on the Vista system. I have to go and move the mouse to wake it up. XP as a host never had this problem.
2) If either computer is rebooted for any reason, I lose access to the network printer. I have to delete it and add it again. I assume this has to do with the inability to retain the account/password to access the Vista system. I'd really like a fix for these annoyances.
*I have recently installed a new Canon MP620B color printer to print mostly correspondence coming and going on Windows Mail, running on a Vista Home Premium OS. The Canon replaced a HP Photosmart that started leaking ink.*
*My problem is when printing email the far left edge of the copy (type) does not print. The From: To: Cc: are missing the left half of the F, T and C letters all the way down the page as well. It's as if the page is not centered in the print area.*
*Under the print preferences I have tried "print to fit" and all the options to get that left edge to come out. This does not happen on Word docs however there is a left margin set on those.
We are new to windows vista and I can barely read the print on the desk top as well as mail or anything else. I have searched on how to make the print larger and it is not just like going into your email and changing the font size. Any tips on this issue from people who are familiar with vista.

I am concerned that Vista is not taking advantage of my RAM. I have searched high and low for an answer, but all I find are posts by people complaining that Vista uses all their RAM, and the obvious responses that Vista _should_ use all their RAM. My problem is that I have a 64-bit system with 8 GB of RAM, and Vista only ever seems to use about 2.5 GB of it. I notice quite slow performance, for example, when I use Firefox with 80 tabs or so, but RAM usage is still relatively low. Of course my pagefile.sys is always an 8 GB file when I check. How can I make Vista use all of my RAM? I should be getting better performance.
