View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having a difficult time restoring my computer to its factory settings. I already backed up most of my important information on a # of DVD discs. I just can't get Windows Vista (32) to re-install. I tried pressing F-10 when the computer starts and Launch the Vaio Recovery. It went through most of the reset but then the screen just goes blank for a very long time and I'm sure its frozen there. The computer I am trying to reset to factory settings is a Sony Vaio Desktop VGC-LT18E, the model it says on the back of the computer is a PCG-281L. I never made the recovery discs. Is there any other way to get these discs without ordering them through SONY? Online versions? Etc..?

View 8 Replies View Relateda friend has a new sony vaio with vista home premium installed. For some reason it will not connect to my netgear router wirelessly. I have tried everything. I am however not too hot on Vista as this is my first time with it. The adaptor says its on, but when you interegate it and ask why it wont connect it keeps telling me "switch on wireless adaptor capability". In the network connections it is on, the switch on the front right is swiitched on and the wireless network light on the front is on. The network is fine and working as i have my laptop connected to it. All security is present and entered. It seems to be the computer as it doesnt find any networks when there are loads in the area. Am i missing something exceptionally obvious? Does Vista have another "on" switch for this adaptor?

Windows index
Windows defender
Windows search
Superfetch
System Restore
Readyboost
Defragmenter
I have uninstalled google desktop.
The system is totally virus and spyware free, and the anti-virus is not scanning (schedule scan disabled). All Vista updates are installed. Nothing has helped. I've run out of things to disable. I'm running Vista Business SP1, Dual Core 2.2 Ghz, 3 Gb RAM.
So early this morning I was trying to connect to a Linksys Wireless Router so I was changing some setting in Network Connections. I plug back in my internet cable and it says im online but when I go to surf the web it says im in offline mode and i have to go to tools and turn it off. So i go to tools and unselect offline mode. I press refresh and it wants me to connect! I've been working for hours and it still wont work!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI believe I have a (Vista Ultimate x64 RC-1? Already has SP1) cd. I can install it fine. I can then install the correct drivers for my hardware. And all works well, until... I use windows updates and select the 'important' only updates. After that, I'm stuck in a boot-loop. And by boot-loop, I mean I can't get into windows OR safe-mode. I have done this 2 times so far. It definitely only happens when I run the updates (can work perfectly fine for days w/o the updates). It's like I'm just now allowed to have an updated version of Vista. I made a restore point prior to the updates, so I can get back to where I was, but I obviously can't run an outdated OS all the time.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis has not been a week that's made me much enamored of Vista. In order to troubleshoot my parents' Vista PC after their wireless mouse/keyboard suddenly stopped working after 4/9's automatic updates, I had to a do a system restore from Safe Mode. Their corded USB keyboard we got to work (along with a PS2 mouse) to do the fixing wouldn't work using the F8-method to get into Safe Mode, so I had use MSCONFIG to force a safe mode boot.
The system restore worked, and I've disabled automatic updates until MS comes out with a fix for the apparently widespread original problem, but now I'm stuck with a very frustrating situation. My parents' computer will only boot up into Selective Startup (which leaves some important things such as graphics drivers unloaded) or into Safe Mode. Within MSCONFIG, when I choose "Normal Startup", it automatically checks the "Safe Mode" Box in the boot tap, and when I uncheck that box, it automatically selects "Selective Start" on the previous tab. (I've tried hitting apply on each of the tabs, but it doesn't help). I've found a few other threads with this same problem across the web, but never found a solution.
I have an ASUS M2N-Sli Deluxe mother board with a AMD Athalon 62 x2 (Dual Core) 2800Mhz 5600+ Cpu, With Nvidia nForce 570 SLI MCP Chipset and 2x nVidia 8600 GT 256RAM. I have been using this set up for over 2 years.
Just last week the fans on my Graphics cards over heated and kinda melted for no reason, I wasnt watching a movie nor was i playing a game. Due the fan on the GPU melting i orders some new ones ie NorthQ (NQ-3860A). The fans work fine and are keepint the GPU cool enough, But i cant detect and of the cards on device manager and i cant change the resolution nor can i load nVidia control panal so i can change the resolution from there and set up the SLI cponnection.
I have also found that with the second GPU When put in the PCI slot comes up with Green lines and a very very unclear picture. Can any one please help me as i have the computer connected to a 32 inch lcd tv and it hurts my eyes, besides that i cant watch any movies

I have a brand new vaio and when I shut it down last night it "hung" - so finally I switched it off at the plug. Today I cannot get anything other than a blue screen.
Should I take the battery out and try and re-install it or is this something that a computer expert will have to sort out. Its such a pain.
I am running Windows Vista Business on a Vaio VGN-TZ21WN and I loathe the entire experience. The notable changes in SP1 list gives me some hope, however SP2 won't come up in Windows Update. Before I use the standalone install, I have read all the possible reasons why this might happen and it appears the only driver issue left is the Intel video chip: I am stuck with 7.14.10.1387
The update from Intel won't install - asking me to get an update from Vaio. Vaio are not offering anything new yet. Longshot time: Has anyone else here forced an install SP1 in a similar situation? I am keen to at least try and fix this nasty, nasty OS before I am just forced into buying a Macbook instead.
I have the (presumably) dreaded "problematic driver" issue on my VAIO VGN-430N/B Laptop. It uses the "stwrt.sys" driver noted as problematic on MS's website for SP1: (SP1 not offered by Windows Update). An updated driver is not available on Sony's website or on the MS Update website.
I suppose the best thing to do is to wait for Sony to figure this out and put the update on their website or send it to MS for inclusion in the MS Update process. Apparently, after that is updated, SP1 will be offered. Funny, Sony support knew nothing about this issue. Told me to try defraging my drive and to try again... sheesh! that's my plan. It occurs to me that this may be a better plan than downloading the full SP1 and trying to "force fit" it into your system. I've read so many heartaches about trashed systems.
my friend has lent me a dvd with a recording of a sports game on it but when i try and play it i wont open at all, nor can i convert it using dvd to video file thing. I tried to download the camcorders driver from the sony support site but need to have the actual camcorder to install it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI use a 3Com 3CWRDR100A-72 router that has worked faultlessly with many devices in my house; I use MAC Address filtering for security. However I have a brand new Sony VGN-FZ21Z that will not connect wirelessly to it...well sometimes it has but most of the time it doesn't, I have the router set to broadcast SSID and the FZ21Z sees it OK. With no encryption the FZ21Z will not automatically connect after coming out of standby or being shut down. Using WPA it has managed to connect probably 2 times out of 20 but mostly it fails - the log reporting a timeout error. I have a Sony VAIO VGN-N38Z sat next to it that is fine even when the SSID is not broadcasting.

mixture of XP and Vista machines connecting to the server. I have created a

The trouble with Vista is that whenever I try to log into the domain, the
screen comes up with an error:
"The User Profile Service failed the login. User profile cannot be loaded."
Unfortunitely I'm not a major networking guru, so I can't really figure out
what Vista is expecting here just to connect to a domain. I assumed that
something this basic in networking wouldn't have been so complicated.
I'd like to know were/how I can find in my VISTA home premium, a file containing, at least, the time of log-in (and log-out) from different users defined in my computer.

I've been having problems with my laptop for quite some time now. If I start it up normally, it always freezes after some time. It won't matter if I try to do something during that time or not. Also if I just open up a game straight up, it will work just fine, but when I exit it, I can't open anything new. It will just show that loading circle and nothing will happen. It works fine in safe mode. I have been searching everywhere for a fix, so now I'm trying my luck here. I'll try to give you some information here. I don't know what you will need though.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem logging into Vista. It started last week Monday (2nd Nov); I switched on my laptop (Packard Bell Easynote LE (MB-88) with 2 GB RAM) and logged into my Windows profile (Vista Home Premium, 32bit). The Welcome page came up... and that's where it stayed! When I stwiched off and back on, I was prompted to go into Safe Mode, which I did. I noticed that the system files loaded up until BtHidBus.sys was reached, where it froze for a long time until I was eventually allowed to login in Safe Mode.
I thought maybe it was because I had put the laptop to sleep, unplugged my USB HD (Maxtor 500 GB) and 'awoken' it without plugging the HD back in. So I plugged it back in, rebooted and logged in as normal. The same thing happened... it got stuck at the Welcome page, I had to cold boot, choose Safe Mode and wait..... for the system files to load up. After searching the web for possible solutions, I found out that BtHidBus.sys is a file that was a part of my IVT Blue Soleil's Bluetooth software, and that there was possibly a triplication of the file. So I thought I'd better uninstall the program... except that you can't access Windows Installer whilst in Safe mode! So I went into MSCONFIG, disabled BTtray.exe (another Blue Soleil file) and restarted the laptop...............
