Oct 22, 2008I'd like to know were/how I can find in my VISTA home premium, a file containing, at least, the time of log-in (and log-out) from different users defined in my computer.

Crcdisk.sys - Loading, Logging Into Vista
Nov 9, 2009I'm having a problem logging into Vista. It started last week Monday (2nd Nov); I switched on my laptop (Packard Bell Easynote LE (MB-88) with 2 GB RAM) and logged into my Windows profile (Vista Home Premium, 32bit). The Welcome page came up... and that's where it stayed! When I stwiched off and back on, I was prompted to go into Safe Mode, which I did. I noticed that the system files loaded up until BtHidBus.sys was reached, where it froze for a long time until I was eventually allowed to login in Safe Mode.
I thought maybe it was because I had put the laptop to sleep, unplugged my USB HD (Maxtor 500 GB) and 'awoken' it without plugging the HD back in. So I plugged it back in, rebooted and logged in as normal. The same thing happened... it got stuck at the Welcome page, I had to cold boot, choose Safe Mode and wait..... for the system files to load up. After searching the web for possible solutions, I found out that BtHidBus.sys is a file that was a part of my IVT Blue Soleil's Bluetooth software, and that there was possibly a triplication of the file. So I thought I'd better uninstall the program... except that you can't access Windows Installer whilst in Safe mode! So I went into MSCONFIG, disabled BTtray.exe (another Blue Soleil file) and restarted the laptop...............
Prevent Vista From Logging User Out?
Jul 9, 2008I cannot work out how to prevent Vista from logging the user out after a period on no activity. I have set power control to Never and screen saver to none. It's the logout that is still happening, not screen saver or power down. I am remote-controlling a Vista Home Basic 32 machine from an XP sp2 machine (Home: no Remote Admin). I am using LogMeIn to do this. Vista machine does not seem to recognise my activities, so that every few minutes it logs me out. This also disconnects the remote connection (and actually disconnected _my_ VOIP phone connection at the same time in a couple of instances! It did not just hang me up. I lost the dial tone and had to cycle my router). Also when the remote Vista user logs back in (I can't do it because I am now disconnected) their network and internet connection has to reconnect all over again.

Jun 14, 2008Running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 on HP Pavilion TX 1250ee laptop. I have a problem logging into Windows Vista. I get the screen up which allow me to select my account and enter a password. Then I get a welcome message. Trouple is it goes no further. The Screen went black with only a white cursor showing. Seconds later, an error showed up saying failed to set data for 'Shell' I've left it for few hours but nothing changed. I did some troubleshooting like testing the Hard Disk using the Built in Self Test in BIOS and everything was pass. I tried to login through safe mode and fortunatlly it's ok. but I don't exactlly know what's the problem? Before it did happen I was creating CD recovery for my computer using the Recovery Manager. Also, there was some updates from Windows which I think what cause the problem. I'm still troubleshooting and waiting for any respond from you guys.

Jun 5, 2008I'm setting up a new Windows Server 2003 server for my company, with a
mixture of XP and Vista machines connecting to the server. I have created a
domain, and I can connect all my XP machines to the domain just fine.
The trouble with Vista is that whenever I try to log into the domain, the
screen comes up with an error:
"The User Profile Service failed the login. User profile cannot be loaded."
Unfortunitely I'm not a major networking guru, so I can't really figure out
what Vista is expecting here just to connect to a domain. I assumed that
something this basic in networking wouldn't have been so complicated.

Starts To Freeze After Logging
May 15, 2010I've been having problems with my laptop for quite some time now. If I start it up normally, it always freezes after some time. It won't matter if I try to do something during that time or not. Also if I just open up a game straight up, it will work just fine, but when I exit it, I can't open anything new. It will just show that loading circle and nothing will happen. It works fine in safe mode. I have been searching everywhere for a fix, so now I'm trying my luck here. I'll try to give you some information here. I don't know what you will need though.

Turn Off Start Logging Off
Aug 17, 2009when i turn off my laptop i find it easier to just press the power button then to hit start and all (God im lazy)...it still goes into the whole windows thing where it says logging off and shutting down and when i turn it back on i dont get any kind of a blue screen or anything, it just starts back up regularly...now i just wanted to know wheter it is bad to do this, now keep in mind i am not holding down the power button so that it just turns off with out some kind of shutting down sequence because i know that is bad for it.

Apr 15, 2009Every time I try to shut down my computer or restart it, it goes to the "Logging Off" screen and stays there till the end of time or until I do a manual power off. After being forced to manually power off, I power back on and get the "Windows did not shut down properly" message. So basically, I can never shut my computer down properly.

Jun 5, 2008I have a Netware quirk that I'm curious about. I have Netware 6.5 running IP only. I've introduced Vista Business 32bit into the mix. I get them to work just fine with the Netware Client for Vista. However, It's now a several step process to login. What's odd is that this is completely repeatable. At first I thought it was me, but after testing at least 10 machines it repeats almost identically on each machine. After initially setting all the login configuration (tree, context, server) I am able to login after several tries. As it should it saves that information and here's what happens on all logins after that.
1) Enter password (username is already there)
2) "play Jeapardy theme" It sits here for a full minute or two or three waiting to login
3) It finally bombs out with an error.
4) I press OK on the error and enter password again.
5) This time I get the Welcome screen and it logs into both Netware and Vista as it should.
There are occasionally slight variations depending on whether the username has a password or not, but this is the most common description. While things work, it's extremely annoying and takes my users a long time to login. This happens on restarts as well as shutdowns and I'd like to streamline this to a normal login.
Blank Screen Switching Users/logging In
May 15, 2010I have windows vista home premium x64, its a fairly new computer - not even one year old. it has 12gb of RAM, and the i7 core processor - i dont think its much useful to my problem, but here it is: Logging off/Switching users takes forever, sometimes the screen just goes blank and stays there. When it does work, i cannot login again properly - Only my desktop backround is shown (No sidebar, no desktop icons, no start menu etc) The computer will not fully come out of sleep mode (Sleep mode isnt even set to on, yet screen shuts down anyway)again only background is shown when i try to wake it up Ctrl+Alt+Del in this state brings up a blank screen yet again, but i know that the menu is there (Sounds) Of course there are other problems, but i dont think they are related (USB ports stop working)If ANYONE has a similiar problem or knows how to resolve myissue,

Oct 4, 2009recently re-aquired one of my old skt 478 motherboards because my original vista home premium 32bit installation had been installed using this board and a 200 gig maxtor drive. I was trying to avoid having to reactivate vista, which failed for probably obvious reasons to everyone else but me. heres the rub ! reinstalled memory, processor, cdrom, hard drive. fired off no problems for about a week. Then windows went out and either re-activated or something which failed and told me to contact microsoft.
1 hour went by and I went to shutdown. Windows was indicating it had downloaded updates that needed to be installed before it shut down. the "Logging off" screen it would give me bsod and then restart the computer the next time i logged into windows my sidebar was missing and did not load up restarted and the next time i loaded up I have a black screen with my fully functional mouse pointer macaffe anti virus briefly flashes on the screen assuring me that while i stare at this black screen I will be safe from viruses. Perhaps not the one that took out my vista desktop, but certainly all the rest.
I have tried to reload vista from the dvd but i HAVE SP2 and the dvd is not even sp1. So consequently it will tell me to run the installation disk from inside vista, You can see the irony here...so my next move is to wipe the hard drive and reload the disk knowing full well that I will have to call microsoft again to reactivate because they seem to think my dvd in the retail package which was purchase from sams club "which i still have the reciept has been installed somewhere else.

The Vista scores cannot be taken as a true benchmark unless you use a benchmarking utility written specifically for Vista, such as PCMark Vantage. You can then compare scores between yours and other Vista installations. But unless you find a utility that can correctly test and recognize the differences between both XP and Vista, you cannot accurately compare scores.

May 27, 2010A friend of mine has been locked out of his Dell laptop and cannot find the password for the single account that it has. The laptop has Vista Ultimate installed on it and I am unable to activate the hidden administrator's account to get into Vista. Other investigations using other software shows only 2 accounts, Administrator and Guest but not the actual user single account that shows up onto the login screen. ( I have managed to blank out the Administrator and Guest passwords ) I have a standard Vista Recovery Disk , but I am unable to either repair or re-install Vista from the Dell hidden partition , and the only alternative is to install a unused retail version of Vista Home Premium that my friend has been given awhile ago. I have 2 questions
1) Is the Vista Ultimate user account passwords located in a different place as compared to other versions of Vista?
2) if I install this retail version of Home Premium on the Dell laptop, will I have problems with the propriety hardware that is on the Dell laptop and would I need to find all the Dell drivers for the laptop?

Jun 13, 2008The often heard recurring theme spread by no nothing trolls and fanboys is if Vista isn't working right, it must be something you did rather than owning up to how badly Vista is designed once you start poking around and SEE how badly implemented it is. Much of the frustration with Vista comes from it's applets crashing or acting up for no apparent reason. Since these applets are INTERNAL and built-in as part of Vista's core the often heard excuse it's some third party driver, a hardware problem or other software you installed is proven to be bogus.
When something happens to either crash or slow down Vista it usually gets documented in Vista's Error Logs. However like most everything else Microsoft does, the logs are of little actual value other than pointing to how poorly designed and broken Vista really is.
To illustrate how broken Vista is, here's my experience this morning. As usual I started my day going to Google (my default home page) and clicking on News to see what the headlines were. Microsoft's browser hung. Waiting for it to respond, after 90 seconds I gave up and sure enough was treated to the usual BS asking if you want to wait longer or shut it down. I shut IE7 down. Created Another Partition On My Drive For Vista X64. (two Other Partitions Running Vista X86)
Mar 14, 2008I'm new to Vista x64 (the op sys as well as this site). I have just endeavored to try out Vista 64 bit on one of my workstations. I run VMWare Workstation at work and can use the additional memory addressing of Vista 64 (I have 4 gigs of RAM). nyway, my problem is this.
1) I created another partition on my drive for Vista x64. (two other partitions running Vista x86).
2) I have been running dual boot with Vista for quite a while and it runs fine.
3) After creating the new partition and installing Vista x64 with SP1 (integrated service pack on install DVD), I get drive corruption problems all over the place.
I have 3 500 gigabyte Western Digital drives in this machine. The first is for operating system partitions and the second strictly for backup (using Acronis True Image) and the third for data. The data drive seems to have problems reading when I attempt to install additional drivers for the x64 bit environment (just downloaded from the web). Also, I soon will get errors afterwards on the C drive also.

Currently I switch these in the BIOS, but I'd much rather chose at a later stage, can this be done? Why? Because I keep one of the drives for random software that I rarely use.

Jun 30, 2008CANNOT SIMPLY UPGRADE WITHIN VISTA??? FIRST TIME ISSUE EVER POSTED! I have a question that I cannot make sense of. I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 installed on my computer. I have a copy of a legit retail version of Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade SP1 DVD-ROM. I want to upgrade my current Vista Home Basic to Vista Ultimate. Sounds simple enough. I have read everywhere on the web and it can upgrade easily as long as you upgrade within Windows Vista and not a reboot installation. Okay, but when I get to a point in the Vista grade process, I CANNOT! During the installation process, when I get to the screen that states, "Which type of installation do you want?" AFTER INPUTTING THE VISTA ULTIMATE KEY CODE ON A PREVIOUS SCREEN, the option should be "Upgrade" ONLY and NOT "Custom (Advanced)" since the key code is set for upgrade option only. I GET THE TOTAL OPPOSITE!!! I only get the option "Custom (Advanced)" and the "Upgrade" option is grayed out. WHAT??? NO "Upgrade" option??? I SHOULD BE GETTING THE "Upgrade" OPTION!!! This does not make any sense!!! It states at the reason at the bottom of this screen, "Upgrade has been disabled. - The upgrade option cannot be started, to upgrade, cancel the installation and then choose to upgrade to a version of Windows that is more recent than the version you are currently running." This does not make any sense, does it??? I should be able to only upgrade since I only have an upgrade disc. I am upgrading from a lower edition of Vista to a higher edition of Vista, therefore I should ALSO have this feature to upgrade enabled too when it knows my CD key is a higher ("upgrade") edition. I have spent several hours searching and read around the web and cannot find my same or similar case scenario. A first time! People who have upgraded between different editions of Vista with either the Windows Anytime Upgrade retail package or (mine) the Windows Vista Ultimate Retail Upgrade box (includes the Windows Anytime Upgrade anyways on it) say it is a breeze! Mar 23, 2008I've tried everything to get my games to run smoothly on Vista, and nothing seems to work very well. Its not so much as my computer sucks, cause when I downgraded to XP, just to try it out, my games were running perfectly smooth. And don't say, "Just stick with XP then!" cause I love Vista in its many other ways.
The only reason I can come up with as to why my games run much slower on Vista is because Vista is a DirectX10 supported OS, but has a DirectX9 "emulator". And since all my games, and video card are DX9 compatible, it runs in the emulated mode. Now we all know running emulators makes our computers run a bit slower, so thats the only solution I can come up with.
Well I know alot of others have had this problem, and Microsoft knows its a problem, so they have said, and I've been told that Vista SP1 would fix that. Well I downloaded SP1 RC Refresh, yet nothing seems to have changed at all...
So heres my questions - Do you guys feel that because its a DX10 supported OS, and im running DX9 software/hardware, that thats a reason why my games run slower? Also what do you guys think on Vista SP1 RC Refresh?

3 days before I had upgrade my PC's memory to 4G, then I find Vista 32 Bit version can not recognize all the memory.So I try to install an Vista 64 Bit version for the test to check if the 64 bit system is ok for me.
The problem is, Vista 32 was installed on to the 3rd partition of the harddisk,usually the drive letter will be E in Windows XP and previous version windows, although it in Vista it display as C drive. I tried to install the 64 Bit Vista in to the 4th partiton. After all the drivers and applications install completed,that seems so far so good. Then I find my previous F drive now names C. The Drive C in Vista 32 Bit names E now. When
I try to boot into Vista 32, the error message : winload.exe could not find.
I used bcdedit try to redirect the device and osdevice to E drive, Vista 32 still could not start normally, the system will hang up in the blue desktop background,seems can not load user profile or sth like that.
I have check the E drive, all the files of Vista 32 are still there.Anyone have any good idea about fix the Vista 32 bit boot and keep the Vista 64 bit also?
