Netware Login Takes Multiple Tries Before Logging In.

Jun 5, 2008

I have a Netware quirk that I'm curious about. I have Netware 6.5 running IP only. I've introduced Vista Business 32bit into the mix. I get them to work just fine with the Netware Client for Vista. However, It's now a several step process to login. What's odd is that this is completely repeatable. At first I thought it was me, but after testing at least 10 machines it repeats almost identically on each machine. After initially setting all the login configuration (tree, context, server) I am able to login after several tries. As it should it saves that information and here's what happens on all logins after that.

1) Enter password (username is already there)
2) "play Jeapardy theme" It sits here for a full minute or two or three waiting to login
3) It finally bombs out with an error.
4) I press OK on the error and enter password again.
5) This time I get the Welcome screen and it logs into both Netware and Vista as it should.

There are occasionally slight variations depending on whether the username has a password or not, but this is the most common description. While things work, it's extremely annoying and takes my users a long time to login. This happens on restarts as well as shutdowns and I'd like to streamline this to a normal login.

Multiple Login To Device/server W-same Login

Dec 17, 2009

What's up with Vista 64 (Vista) not allowing the same user; login/pass to acess a network device? I've got a small network in my office and I have just purchased a new laptop with Vista64 on it. I'm trying to access a Network drive device with my login/pass (it works on all other computers) but not the Vista64 box?

I get an error: "share is not accessible. You might not have permission (which I know my login/pass does becuase I'm logged in with XP on two other boxes). But there's the paragraph; "Multiple connections to a server or shared resouces by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed, Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again". What the heck I want to keep the same login (ME) to access a devise... is this really how it has to be with Vista?

Put Password, Takes 33 Second To Login

Oct 2, 2008

I am running vista ultimate and am having trouble when logging in. When I boot the system it boots fine to the login in screen. When I put my password in it takes 33 seconds sitting at Welcome to get to the desktop. When it does get to the desktop all is fine. It also does this if I log out and back in again (just the login part). If I lock the pc and then log back in it is straight in. Surley 33 seconds is too long.

Press Control/alt/delete To Get A Login Screen Up Then Login Using The Administrator Account?

Sep 30, 2009

With xp you can press control/alt/delete to get a login screen up then login using the administrator account. On vista the administrator account is showing as a icon on the login screen. I dont want this to be visible, any ideas how to hide this?. I saw a registry hack but this removes the icon but it seems in doing so there is then no way to login without the icon.

Windows Login Service Failed The Login

Jul 29, 2009

I'm having an issue with new users on my vista business machine. My current user account is working fine, however when I create a new account, either through control panel or through "local users and groups" option by right clicking computer. The account creates and is apparently all ready to go, however when I try log in to the account, i get an error: "the windows login service service failed the login, the user profile could not be loaded". I also notice that in C:users folder, there is no folder with the new account I created, i assume that is why the error is appearing. I have done numerious virus scans, with norton, so thats not the issue. I have found other problems on the internet but they only appear to be having problems with the main account, my main administrator account works fine.

Logging Into Domain

Jun 5, 2008

I'm setting up a new Windows Server 2003 server for my company, with a
mixture of XP and Vista machines connecting to the server. I have created a
domain, and I can connect all my XP machines to the domain just fine.

The trouble with Vista is that whenever I try to log into the domain, the
screen comes up with an error:

"The User Profile Service failed the login. User profile cannot be loaded."

Unfortunitely I'm not a major networking guru, so I can't really figure out
what Vista is expecting here just to connect to a domain. I assumed that
something this basic in networking wouldn't have been so complicated.

Starts To Freeze After Logging

May 15, 2010

I've been having problems with my laptop for quite some time now. If I start it up normally, it always freezes after some time. It won't matter if I try to do something during that time or not. Also if I just open up a game straight up, it will work just fine, but when I exit it, I can't open anything new. It will just show that loading circle and nothing will happen. It works fine in safe mode. I have been searching everywhere for a fix, so now I'm trying my luck here. I'll try to give you some information here. I don't know what you will need though.

Crcdisk.sys - Loading, Logging Into Vista

Nov 9, 2009

I'm having a problem logging into Vista. It started last week Monday (2nd Nov); I switched on my laptop (Packard Bell Easynote LE (MB-88) with 2 GB RAM) and logged into my Windows profile (Vista Home Premium, 32bit). The Welcome page came up... and that's where it stayed! When I stwiched off and back on, I was prompted to go into Safe Mode, which I did. I noticed that the system files loaded up until BtHidBus.sys was reached, where it froze for a long time until I was eventually allowed to login in Safe Mode.

I thought maybe it was because I had put the laptop to sleep, unplugged my USB HD (Maxtor 500 GB) and 'awoken' it without plugging the HD back in. So I plugged it back in, rebooted and logged in as normal. The same thing happened... it got stuck at the Welcome page, I had to cold boot, choose Safe Mode and wait..... for the system files to load up. After searching the web for possible solutions, I found out that BtHidBus.sys is a file that was a part of my IVT Blue Soleil's Bluetooth software, and that there was possibly a triplication of the file. So I thought I'd better uninstall the program... except that you can't access Windows Installer whilst in Safe mode! So I went into MSCONFIG, disabled BTtray.exe (another Blue Soleil file) and restarted the laptop...............

Prevent Vista From Logging User Out?

Jul 9, 2008

I cannot work out how to prevent Vista from logging the user out after a period on no activity. I have set power control to Never and screen saver to none. It's the logout that is still happening, not screen saver or power down. I am remote-controlling a Vista Home Basic 32 machine from an XP sp2 machine (Home: no Remote Admin). I am using LogMeIn to do this. Vista machine does not seem to recognise my activities, so that every few minutes it logs me out. This also disconnects the remote connection (and actually disconnected _my_ VOIP phone connection at the same time in a couple of instances! It did not just hang me up. I lost the dial tone and had to cycle my router). Also when the remote Vista user logs back in (I can't do it because I am now disconnected) their network and internet connection has to reconnect all over again.

Logging Into Windows Vista: Error Showed Up Saying Failed To Set Data For 'Shell'

Jun 14, 2008

Running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 on HP Pavilion TX 1250ee laptop. I have a problem logging into Windows Vista. I get the screen up which allow me to select my account and enter a password. Then I get a welcome message. Trouple is it goes no further. The Screen went black with only a white cursor showing. Seconds later, an error showed up saying failed to set data for 'Shell' I've left it for few hours but nothing changed. I did some troubleshooting like testing the Hard Disk using the Built in Self Test in BIOS and everything was pass. I tried to login through safe mode and fortunatlly it's ok. but I don't exactlly know what's the problem? Before it did happen I was creating CD recovery for my computer using the Recovery Manager. Also, there was some updates from Windows which I think what cause the problem. I'm still troubleshooting and waiting for any respond from you guys.

Defragmenting Takes Forever!

Mar 26, 2010

Just did a clean install of VISTA Home Premium SP2 including all MS updates on an AMD dual core, 3GB RAM, 250GB HP. Also installed MS Office 2007 and a few other mainstream apps.

Tried using built-in disk defragmenter but gave up after 10-12 hours. Tried running from the command line with a few switches - and gave up after 8 hours. Running defraggler right now. Got to 50% in first 2.5 hours. At 74% after an additional 11 hours - just hit 75%. I think it took 2-3 hours to go from 74-75. It's still flipping through the files but doesn't seem to be progressing. Defraggler shows "8 fragmented files (22GB); 43 total fragments; 22% fragmentation." I guess I'll let it run through the night.

How long should it take to defrag a clean install of VISTA? On XP, a long defrag might be an hour or so. I'm so frustrated.

Takes Several Minutes To Run A Setup,

Aug 11, 2009

I'm kinda a great gamer and when i download demos to test incoming games, i try running their setup and it takes a lot of time to start. About 2-3 minutes of waiting before asking if i want to open the file because it was downloaded from the internet (just with the demos i downloaded from the net, sure), and another 2-3 minutes to ask for permission to open it (the account security control or something like that). Then the task appears in Task Manager under "process" tab but it has only 64 kb of ram and it remains that way for another 4-5 minutes. Finally it starts (after about 12-15 minutes total), it installs and here's another problem. When the progress bar arrives to the end, it takes about 10 minutes to tell me installation was completed (during these 10 minutes installation does not busy the cpu at all). This problem occures only with setups, but not only with game's setups, with program's setups too.

I know there's not such a big problem "at least they install", but it's kinda annoying waiting about 25-30 minutes total to play a damn demo or to install a program.Has anyone had that problem? How can i fix it? Here there are my specs (it's an HP laptop, 6730s):

Intel Core 2 Duo T5670 @ 1.80 ghz, 4 mb L2 Cache
2 GB Ram
Intel Mobile 4 Series 128 Mb own ram, 796 total
HDD 150 GB (about 42,8 free at this moment)
Antivirus: Kaspersky Internet Security 2009
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit.

Diablo II Takes Literally 5 Min To Load

Oct 27, 2008

Vista Ultimate x64, Vista Business x64, and Vista Home x64, all have this issue:
Diablo II takes literally 5 min to load. We thought that for certain that the game just wasn't going to work under Vista x64, and I was ready to give up on it... but then one of the machines just popped to life.

Since then, I've been running it by starting it... and then literally go for a soda or a beer in order to pass the 5 mins it takes for anything to happen.

I can see in the task manager that game.exe*32 is running... at 0% cpu... for a long, long time. No activity that is measurable by task manager. Then, eventually, the screen goes black and the intro begins running.

Once that happens, Diablo II appears to be fine (there are some issues with it failing to fully initialize or restore the graphics pallete when I alt-tab away, but that seems to self-fix when I alt-tab a second time).

List Of TV Recordings Takes Time

Jun 6, 2009

I have a new i7 (a quad core with HT - for 8 threads) computer and I have been running Windows 7 on it. I have not run Vista on it yet. I had Vista with my previous computer, a Pentium 4 with HT. As I recorded TV with Vista on my older computer, the time to display the list of TV recordings would grow longer and longer, eventually taking 2 minutes (my screen saver would kick in before media center was finished compiling the list) with around 500 to 600 recordings or more. On my new i7 computer running Windows 7 RC, with about 500 recordings (double that if I plug in my external drive), the time it takes to display the list is almost instantaneous. Does Windows 7 Media Center have a better algorithm for calculating the list than the Vista version of Media Center, or is my i7 computer that much faster than a 6 year old computer? What length of time are Vista Media Center users experiencing on newer hardware with regards to displaying the list of shows?

Turn On Ultimate X64 Pc, It Takes The Internet Down For All

Jul 25, 2009

Along with the Vista x64 pc we also have three other pc's at home (two are Vista 32 bit, the other is XP), one xbox360, two Wii's, and one ps3. They all connect to the internet with a wireless connection. The Vista x64 pc I have tried both a wireless connection as well as a hard wired ethernet connection. I have two Cisco/linksys wireless routers that I have tried and the problem is the same regardless of which one I try to use. I have a WRT54GL and a WRT160NL. I have tried various firmware versions for both.

The problem involves the Vista 64-bit pc. It is the only Vista 64-bit device we have in the house. The internet runs fine as long as that pc is turned off. As soon as I turn it on, none of the devices I listed have internet access any more. On the Vista 64-bit pc I have tried both hard wired as well as wireless NIC's. Doesn't matter. I have tried putting in a static IP address as well as DHCP, neither makes a difference. Also, I installed Vista Business 32-bit on another hard drive for this pc and as soon as I did that my pc no longer took down the internet. It is obviously a problem with Vista 64-bit.........
