I am having an app crash issue as of late that I am sure is probably posted somewhere else on this forum but I have not been able to locate the solution to my issue.

I cannot work out how to prevent Vista from logging the user out after a period on no activity. I have set power control to Never and screen saver to none. It's the logout that is still happening, not screen saver or power down. I am remote-controlling a Vista Home Basic 32 machine from an XP sp2 machine (Home: no Remote Admin). I am using LogMeIn to do this. Vista machine does not seem to recognise my activities, so that every few minutes it logs me out. This also disconnects the remote connection (and actually disconnected _my_ VOIP phone connection at the same time in a couple of instances! It did not just hang me up. I lost the dial tone and had to cycle my router). Also when the remote Vista user logs back in (I can't do it because I am now disconnected) their network and internet connection has to reconnect all over again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just reinstalled windows vista home today and at first many things werent working such as my wireless and my 3d flip...so i searched on htfc and found out i needed the drivers from the computer maker. Now after downloading and rebooting, the aero scheme is working which is great. but the only thing i cant seem to figure out is that toolbar that hangs and hides up on the desktop, i dont know what its called, i cant see it, i cant find it. before today i just put my mouse up to the top of the screen and i could get quick access to whatever i had put up there. firstly whats it called and how do i get it back?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a recurring problem in that my computer randomly will freeze and become non responsive(though I can move the mouse during these freezes). When clicking on a link or trying to view an e-mail I get the message "Not Responsive" as I watch the Windows "circle" rotate in the middle of the screen. Usually within 15 seconds to a minute the computer again returns to usable state. It used to happen only in Windows Mail. But about two weeks ago it started happening when using other programs, IE, Firefox, etc.

To this point I worked with Dell support to try to solve the problem. After doing a disk cleanup, removing temp files, etc. that didn't fix it, they had me perform a restore to Factory Settings. However even after doing that and reinstalling my programs and data files, the problem persists. I have tried opening Windows in safe mode and the problem doesn't occur then. BTW, there are no error messages when this occurs.
i have been having a few problems with my new vista computer its a hp txz 2500z with vista buisness and im the administrater acount if that will help first prob is when i try to log off or shut or restart down the computer it hangs in the shutingdown or loging off screen and i have to use the power button to turn it off
other prob is the taskmanager wont show up. i see its icon in the bottom right bar (green gridlike box) it jus wont show up on the screen last some programs wont open like itunes or the conect to a network and network setings and sometimes windows defender i think they might run in the background but i cant get taskmanager running
I would just like to ask a question about the UAC; if you disable the UAC account on a User does that disable it for the whole computer?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI don't own a Mac but I bought a Vista machine from Dell. I asked toreturn it because it ran so slow. They offered to install XP as it was the only way to make it run at a decent speed.
These are the facts,
1. XP is still going strong because computer manufactures don't want
to sell slow machines.
2. Microsoft it self is so mortified by the slow performance of Vista
that they are talking about introducing a new OS next year.
3. It is physically impossible for Vista to run as fast as Mac because
they use the same chips and Vista devotes most of its memory watching
the computer user.
Currently, Microsoft penalizes Vista users who fail to activate their operating system software within 30 days, or three days after a major hardware configuration change, by restricting Vista to running in "out-of-grace reduced functionality mode." This denies access to games included in Window Vista and to premium features such as Aero Glass,
ReadyBoost, and BitLocker. It also limits the amount of time the user can remain logged in to one hour.
I have a laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium x64 with 340gb of extra memory, and 4gb of ram, and out of absolutely nowhere, I started to get this problem. I am the only user of this computer, guest account is disabled, and I'm the administrator.
Basically, I turn on the computer.
I login to my account. Great. Computer loads up as normal.
I close the laptop to put in my bag or something. By default, I have required to reenter the password to log back in once I open the computer again. BUT if when I type in the password to log back in, I get a message that says "Your Account Has Been Disabled. Please See Your System Administrator"
This happens if I log out of my account, or if I press switch user, and go back in my account.
I don't use internet on the laptop so I know I do not have any virus issues...I did run my virus scan once to make sure and it got nothing...
I suppose I could just require my computer to not need a password if I wake it from Sleep, but still, I shouldn't have to resort to that.
Does anyone else know what I should do? System restore maybe?
how to change the user name on a Vista operated computer without completely reinstalling the operating system software and all the applications that already installed? I need to put her name in as the user and remove mines.

mixture of XP and Vista machines connecting to the server. I have created a
domain, and I can connect all my XP machines to the domain just fine.
The trouble with Vista is that whenever I try to log into the domain, the
screen comes up with an error:
"The User Profile Service failed the login. User profile cannot be loaded."
Unfortunitely I'm not a major networking guru, so I can't really figure out
what Vista is expecting here just to connect to a domain. I assumed that
something this basic in networking wouldn't have been so complicated.
I'd like to know were/how I can find in my VISTA home premium, a file containing, at least, the time of log-in (and log-out) from different users defined in my computer.

"You are not currently logged into your computer as an Administrator. This
installer requires that the user be logged in as an Administrator. Please log
out and log back in as an Administrator, and then restart the installer. On
top of the pop up it says Powered by SupportSoft." Have I done something
wrong when starting up my system or Windows mail? How can I eliminate the

I've been having problems with my laptop for quite some time now. If I start it up normally, it always freezes after some time. It won't matter if I try to do something during that time or not. Also if I just open up a game straight up, it will work just fine, but when I exit it, I can't open anything new. It will just show that loading circle and nothing will happen. It works fine in safe mode. I have been searching everywhere for a fix, so now I'm trying my luck here. I'll try to give you some information here. I don't know what you will need though.

when i turn off my laptop i find it easier to just press the power button then to hit start and all (God im lazy)...it still goes into the whole windows thing where it says logging off and shutting down and when i turn it back on i dont get any kind of a blue screen or anything, it just starts back up regularly...now i just wanted to know wheter it is bad to do this, now keep in mind i am not holding down the power button so that it just turns off with out some kind of shutting down sequence because i know that is bad for it.

It started last week Monday (2nd Nov); I switched on my laptop (Packard Bell Easynote LE (MB-88) with 2 GB RAM) and logged into my Windows profile (Vista Home Premium, 32bit). The Welcome page came up... and that's where it stayed! When I stwiched off and back on, I was prompted to go into Safe Mode, which I did. I noticed that the system files loaded up until BtHidBus.sys was reached, where it froze for a long time until I was eventually allowed to login in Safe Mode.
I thought maybe it was because I had put the laptop to sleep, unplugged my USB HD (Maxtor 500 GB) and 'awoken' it without plugging the HD back in. So I plugged it back in, rebooted and logged in as normal. The same thing happened... it got stuck at the Welcome page, I had to cold boot, choose Safe Mode and wait..... for the system files to load up. After searching the web for possible solutions, I found out that BtHidBus.sys is a file that was a part of my IVT Blue Soleil's Bluetooth software, and that there was possibly a triplication of the file. So I thought I'd better uninstall the program... except that you can't access Windows Installer whilst in Safe mode! So I went into MSCONFIG, disabled BTtray.exe (another Blue Soleil file) and restarted the laptop...............

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.

Every time I try to shut down my computer or restart it, it goes to the "Logging Off" screen and stays there till the end of time or until I do a manual power off. After being forced to manually power off, I power back on and get the "Windows did not shut down properly" message. So basically, I can never shut my computer down properly.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Netware quirk that I'm curious about. I have Netware 6.5 running IP only. I've introduced Vista Business 32bit into the mix. I get them to work just fine with the Netware Client for Vista. However, It's now a several step process to login. What's odd is that this is completely repeatable. At first I thought it was me, but after testing at least 10 machines it repeats almost identically on each machine. After initially setting all the login configuration (tree, context, server) I am able to login after several tries. As it should it saves that information and here's what happens on all logins after that.
1) Enter password (username is already there)
2) "play Jeapardy theme" It sits here for a full minute or two or three waiting to login
3) It finally bombs out with an error.
4) I press OK on the error and enter password again.
5) This time I get the Welcome screen and it logs into both Netware and Vista as it should.
There are occasionally slight variations depending on whether the username has a password or not, but this is the most common description. While things work, it's extremely annoying and takes my users a long time to login. This happens on restarts as well as shutdowns and I'd like to streamline this to a normal login.
I have windows vista home premium x64, its a fairly new computer - not even one year old. it has 12gb of RAM, and the i7 core processor - i dont think its much useful to my problem, but here it is: Logging off/Switching users takes forever, sometimes the screen just goes blank and stays there. When it does work, i cannot login again properly - Only my desktop backround is shown (No sidebar, no desktop icons, no start menu etc) The computer will not fully come out of sleep mode (Sleep mode isnt even set to on, yet screen shuts down anyway)again only background is shown when i try to wake it up Ctrl+Alt+Del in this state brings up a blank screen yet again, but i know that the menu is there (Sounds) Of course there are other problems, but i dont think they are related (USB ports stop working)If ANYONE has a similiar problem or knows how to resolve myissue,
View 4 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 on HP Pavilion TX 1250ee laptop. I have a problem logging into Windows Vista. I get the screen up which allow me to select my account and enter a password. Then I get a welcome message. Trouple is it goes no further. The Screen went black with only a white cursor showing. Seconds later, an error showed up saying failed to set data for 'Shell' I've left it for few hours but nothing changed. I did some troubleshooting like testing the Hard Disk using the Built in Self Test in BIOS and everything was pass. I tried to login through safe mode and fortunatlly it's ok. but I don't exactlly know what's the problem? Before it did happen I was creating CD recovery for my computer using the Recovery Manager. Also, there was some updates from Windows which I think what cause the problem. I'm still troubleshooting and waiting for any respond from you guys.
View 9 Replies View Related[This is my second post on the same subject. The first thread died] I had this Vista Home Basic machine working okay, but the power went out and then another person who was high used the machine. They named a new user as administrator. I don't know what else they did.
Now I have a new user as administrator and the previous users are gone. I still see evidence of them in the file tree but the old programs are gone and the documents are buried in C > Users > Admin (that was a name of a previous user that I had named when I first got the machine) I've gradually installed some of my old programs and I'm currently
just rebuilding everything, but it would be a lot easier if I could revert to the old user system. The Control Panel > add or remove user accounts is useless. I only have two icons there So is there anyway to return to the original condition? How can I recover the missing users?
My Sony Vaio (Windows Vista Home Premium) is stuck in "Logging off" mode. No matter what I do, Windows keeps resuming where it left off, which is apparently in Logging Off mode.
View 6 Replies View Relatedrecently re-aquired one of my old skt 478 motherboards because my original vista home premium 32bit installation had been installed using this board and a 200 gig maxtor drive. I was trying to avoid having to reactivate vista, which failed for probably obvious reasons to everyone else but me. heres the rub ! reinstalled memory, processor, cdrom, hard drive. fired off no problems for about a week. Then windows went out and either re-activated or something which failed and told me to contact microsoft.
1 hour went by and I went to shutdown. Windows was indicating it had downloaded updates that needed to be installed before it shut down. the "Logging off" screen it would give me bsod and then restart the computer the next time i logged into windows my sidebar was missing and did not load up restarted and the next time i loaded up I have a black screen with my fully functional mouse pointer macaffe anti virus briefly flashes on the screen assuring me that while i stare at this black screen I will be safe from viruses. Perhaps not the one that took out my vista desktop, but certainly all the rest.
I have tried to reload vista from the dvd but i HAVE SP2 and the dvd is not even sp1. So consequently it will tell me to run the installation disk from inside vista, You can see the irony here...so my next move is to wipe the hard drive and reload the disk knowing full well that I will have to call microsoft again to reactivate because they seem to think my dvd in the retail package which was purchase from sams club "which i still have the reciept has been installed somewhere else.
Received my computer back yesterday from HP with reinstalled clean version of Vista Home Premium. It came back with a user name of 'test'. I attempted to change the name to my name "Bob Lafayette" and the user name in task manager under user shows up as "BOBLAFAYETTE est". In System Information the user name shows as BOBLAFAYETTE est
In user profiles the administrator shows as Bob Lafayette. The computer name shows as "BobLafayette." Computer description shows as "Bob's Computer." How can I amend the user name in task manager to reflect solely "BobLafayette"? Without the "test"?
I just purchased a Toshiba A205-7464 laptop before Christmas and have been having a problem lately with the wireless internet hanging on me.
I will be online for a certain period of time, sometimes hours, sometimes 10 minutes. I will try to go to a website, not always the same one, and IE will just hang, no graphics will come up, the green bar just stops halfway through and it just hangs. I get no error page or anything but in order to get it working again, I have to reboot. It is really starting to tick me off because it is starting to happen more frequently. I have uninstalled McAfee and installed my own Security Software (CA Suite).
