I've tried searching the threads to see if this question has been answered already, but, you know, being a muppet an' all.I downloaded some updates for my mp3 player but when I try to open them windows says it doesn't "recognise the programme that created it".I've spent the best part of the day trying to find a solution to this to no avail (yes I have dial-up, not for long though ).
Dell 2350 XP rebuilt 120G HD 1G Ram, new CDRW/DVD. Why is my computer speed so slow. Always have about 50 systems running all the time. I open google- click news- try to open site -real slow, try to open thread--gets 4-5 green dots than stops or take 10 minutes to open. Sometimes won't open. I go to options and delete all.-- still slow. I've redownloaded IE 7. I defrag, redo registry--ch disk
I have an issue with my task bar it disappears. This only seems to happen when I leave the PC alone for a while, never while I'm using it. I've tried the normal tricks (running 'explorer.exe', auto-hiding and un auto-hiding etc.)I've got Spyware Doctor running, have CCcleaner running on startup checking registry and redundant files. I can get the taskbar back by restarting PC, but that's a bit of a pain, if you could help, that would be great.
I am especially worried because the next line states: connection reset by peer; socket write error. Also, upon boot-up windows goes every time to check disk, runs through the process, then says to wait to shut down, but it never shuts itself down.
I was playing "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" on my PC, when suddenly, the computer freezes and the textures in-game became pixelated like rainbows. After hitting Ctrl+Alt+Delete several times, the computer hung at a black screen for a moment, before displaying "No Signal" on my monitor.I rebooted to see the BIOS screen, with the white "HP" logo ridden with black vertical lines. When the computer starts the next phase, my screen is immediately covered with complete gibberish, Qmeas!Semecu!Vie!, letters, numbers, characters, of a language I've never even seen. "Windows" is spelled like "Winewues" or someting, and it's almost impossible to decipher what you're choosing. There appears to be another layer of gibberish beneath the initial gibberish. Next, it goes to a blank screen with the blinking

I'm able to use EZCD 6 Platinum with no problems with DVD-R/W or CDR-W disks, but this is the first time I've tried writing any data files to DVD+R DL single sided double capacity disks. I have updated the Platinum DVD file to recognize the Plextor 740A drive (which is double layered able and also had the firmware updated on it). XP (using its own burning program can't tell that I have a disk in the drive. EZCD Creator can see the drive (but sees the disk as only a 4.7GB capacity so I've tried going over that amount to 'disk 2' to load up the files. As soon as the files are ready to burn, and it loads up the title line with everything, I immediately get the following error:
E80070057: The parameter is incorrect
With no explanation when clicking on Help. I've done a google search and I find many of these type posts in various forums but they all seem to be pretty old posts with no results or resolutions.
I had this working last year, but now I can't seem to search content in files. I go to Start, Search, and then I select "All Files and Folders".I used to be able to type in the search words in "A word or phrase in the file", and then select a folder by going to "Look in", then Browse, and then I would select the folder there.
The last windows update that I can see is KB 905474 and was downloaded by my automatic updates.I can see it when going to windows updates/view history. Trouble is, I cannot see it in my add/remove list. does auto updates only download security updates and I assume I dont have to do anything.
At the end of November, the folks over in the Security forum were kind enough to walk me through a huge problem I was having. My computer has never been better except for one small thing. my "search" function doesn't work. The little doggy is there and if I enter something and then ask it to search files and folders (or anything for that matter), it goes off to search and then nothing happens. Eventually I get the "Program not Responding" window and when I close it, my desktop blinks off for a second and then my Norton systray button is missing. It's weird and I'm sure I deleted something inadvertently while I was getting rid of that terrible trojan. I was just wondering if someone had a suggestion so that I could restore that function. If not, I'll leave it alone because I'm just happy to have my computer back to normal almost. I thought I was going to have to throw it away until those guys saved it for me.
I have xp pro and woke to a blue screen. When I rebooted it, it runs through post but stops before win xp logo comes on. Now it says the computer is searching for boot record.
I researched the internet and every where I turn someome is sending me to: Kelly's Korner @ http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm. I did go to this website and downloaded the taskbar fix it link, however when I went to run it off my desktop, NORTON caught it and popped up that it was a MALICIOUS THREAT or something regarding MALICIOUS.
I have Norton Symantec on my computer and it keeps saying its detecting Trojan Horses on my computer......but it says it cannot delete them. PLEASE help...i dont want to have to spend tons of money more on new software......i have hijack this, and kill box.....
Got a machine on the bench right now (Dell Dimension 3100, XPHE SP2) which shuts down Windows Explorer whenever I try and do a search. I just updated this machine to SP2 and have run SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) and CCleaner on it. There must be a conflict somewhere and I have no idea what files may be conflicting.
I'm using a small apache server on a local network for a wiki, and I integrate php functions mixed with windows system calls as well. I'd like to be able to output to a .txt file a search result of *.something on all the available network machines.
I can do the search with the exploer 'Find' function, although its speed is ridiculously slow. However, I can't seem to be able to find an equivalent function in DOS. (DIR is only applicable on one's own machine
where can i download dell inspiron b120 laptop device drivers? the devices not working are: audio, ehternet controller, modem device, video controller and vga compatible.
I had just finished some windows updates when I tried to go to my computer. when I do, it will sit there with that little moving flashlight, searching for files for several minutes, and then everything works, it doesn't hang up unless I go to my computer. Also, I can't manually put in an internet address at the internet explorer address bar because it doesn't seem to react when I hit the go button.
I've got an NEC LCD2010X monitor, and everytime I download the latest update from MS for either the NVIDA or Matrox Video cards I always find the drivers don't work... why ? Latest case is with the NVIDA update - I can't go beyond 4bit 640x480.
Is there a way to disable Windows Automatic Updates from updating device drivers. There are a several PC's at my job that have problems with a device driver update from. I would still like to recieve regular security updates, but I dont want any device driver updates.
I click on install, they install, I reboot - then, hey presto, they're back again!! I know the easy way is to turn off automatic updates - but, surely, there's a way around this?
My computer is only about 4 months old and I do not have it set to receive automatic updates. It seemed, with my last computer, the updates created more problems than they were worth. Does anyone have an opinion on how important it is to get these updates or am I just as well off not receiving them? The last time I checked to see what updates were available it appeared Microsoft even said that some of them could create problems.
Use Windows Update to find driver updates In Windows Update click Custom Install in the main column, and then click Select optional hardware updates in the left-hand column. Windows Update examines all parts of your system to determine what needs updating and it may recommend more than just driver updates. It's a good idea to visit Windows Update regularly for driver updates and other non-critical updates.
I am using XP Pro SP 2 with automatic updates enabled. As far as I understand since April 2005 updates are downloaded from Windows Update site once a month Correct me, if I am wrong) somewhere between 10-14 of every month? If so, how should I install critical updates, which issued between two monthly update dates?
I have downloaded SP2 and some additional updates, I am not able to download files/updates from www.apple.com. Is there some glitch or do I need to reset some of the settings so that it will let me download from their site? (I'm trying to download ipod updater but the login and download buttons do not load)
When I run the install Windows updates, the updates do not install, and I receive the following message (not verbatim, but close):"Some updates were unable to be installed..."This problem "came out of no where" and there has been no suspicious activity prior to it starting other than an IE7 redirect rootkit that NeonFx helped me remove (if I recall correctly an infection of agp440).
I've run into some issues with software needing XP or better to run. So I'm thinking about moving on to XP or Vista. I really love W2K and not having to deal with blue screens error popup screens is the only factor that's bonded me to W2K for sooo long. So I guess the question is should I go to XP or move on up to Vista? This will be a full install I'm not one for throwing upgrades onto of other upgrades and so on. I'd also like to know if my files on W2k will be compatible with XP or vista? I'm going to want to move things from old HD to the new HD
I have a system which is having OS as XP Professional it is having AVG 7.5 as antivirus and it was showing the last update date as 12/18/2007. so when i tried to update by using the internet it was showing the update wizard and disappearing off very soon so what is the problem for this.
