I had this working last year, but now I can't seem to search content in files. I go to Start, Search, and then I select "All Files and Folders".I used to be able to type in the search words in "A word or phrase in the file", and then select a folder by going to "Look in", then Browse, and then I would select the folder there.
I'm using a small apache server on a local network for a wiki, and I integrate php functions mixed with windows system calls as well.
I'd like to be able to output to a .txt file a search result of *.something on all the available network machines.
I can do the search with the exploer 'Find' function, although its speed is ridiculously slow. However, I can't seem to be able to find an equivalent function in DOS. (DIR is only applicable on one's own machine
I had just finished some windows updates when I tried to go to my computer. when I do, it will sit there with that little moving flashlight, searching for files for several minutes, and then everything works, it doesn't hang up unless I go to my computer. Also, I can't manually put in an internet address at the internet explorer address bar because it doesn't seem to react when I hit the go button.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAt the end of November, the folks over in the Security forum were kind enough to walk me through a huge problem I was having. My computer has never been better except for one small thing. my "search" function doesn't work. The little doggy is there and if I enter something and then ask it to search files and folders (or anything for that matter), it goes off to search and then nothing happens. Eventually I get the "Program not Responding" window and when I close it, my desktop blinks off for a second and then my Norton systray button is missing.It's weird and I'm sure I deleted something inadvertently while I was getting rid of that terrible trojan. I was just wondering if someone had a suggestion so that I could restore that function. If not, I'll leave it alone because I'm just happy to have my computer back to normal almost. I thought I was going to have to throw it away until those guys saved it for me.

I just updated this machine to SP2 and have run SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) and CCleaner on it. There must be a conflict somewhere and I have no idea what files may be conflicting.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Win XP and, using the built in Zip feature,have zipped up 14 files that include one .exe file and one .bas file.When I try to Extract All files it extracts all except these two files.It says that the files have been blocked to protect the computer, then I can click on a link to find out how to unblock the files but the instructions to do so don't make sense.The instructions tell you to save the file, then right click/properties/unblock, but I can't see how you can save a file if it hasn't been unzipped.How can I stop the .exe and .bas files from being blocked

I first noticed this increased used space when I wanted to defragment the hard drive and noticed that there was only 45% free space available (there is usually 75%).I have viewed the properties of all the folders on the C: drive and they do not add up to the 20GB shown on the C: drive properties...The defragment report states that "some files in the volume could not be defragmented"
My system totally crashed. I reformatted the drive and reinstall XP. Well, everything seems to be going along just fine until I get to 70% finished with copying installation files and I get message after message saying that the files cannot be copied.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe registry on one of my computers is corrupt and if I try to copy the files from the WindowsRepair folder using the windows system repair tool, I'm told the files cannot be found. One possible solution I thought of is using the registry files from my other computer running Windows XP. I don't even know if this is possible, but if it is, how can I transfer the files. I would put them on a CD but the CD drive won't open when the system repair tool is running, and they're too big to fit on a floppy disk, even one at a time (the system and software files are both over 2mb.)

View 14 Replies View RelatedSometime over the past couple of weeks, I started having a number of files on my C:/ drive which would not open. I wrote another forum and got some advice, and did some studying, and for some I was able to take back permissions and found what looked like a phony user account hidden way down in Documents and Settings.
Today I found close to 2/3 of my files would not display, of the types, htm and html, jpg, png, and doc files. I went to check permissions and the security tab was not under Properties.
I have tried everything: I have re-installed Windows, I have run every virus and adware and spyware scan and repair known, and have constantly cleaned the registry and used HiJack this which did show two programs called Voodoo and Banshee which were not mine.
Last night I noticed 2 files remaining after deleting my temp files. When I try to delete them, a warning box appears saying that another person or program is using these files. Task manager says no other program is running and I do not see any suspicious processes running. The only recent changes I have made was to schedule a daily backup via NTBACKUP and a daily rename & compression of the backup files via a batch file with Task Scheduler. Does task scheduler leave .tmp files in place I don't want to delete the .tmp files if they are indeed needed by something important

I was running AVG anti virus. Now I removed AVG and installed Microsoft supplied security essential software. It detected following virus ware and removed subsequently I want to recover deleted .pst and thunderbird mails.

I'm 55 so I guess I forgot how to download them as individual songs and not have them arbitrarily placed in folders predetermined by Windows. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have always enjoyed labeling and organizing my files, But as of a little while back i am not able to organize my mp3s or any type of file for that matter in a proper fashion because the options of the author the title and everything else you are allowed to label are not present. I used too use this to organize all my music and video files in a folder but now none of these options appear for me. When i click properties and heat to summary for any file It never gives me the options for these files there just not there. So when i try to organize lets say the folder by Artist or Album title or year or track number i cant because there is no category for it.
