Dual-Boot On Laptop:Two Media Center Options?
Oct 1, 2006I recently WIPED 160GB HDD in the laptop, then Fresh Reinstalled Windows XP Media Center Edition. I even deleted Dell's "partion" on the drive. When I bootup, I get TWO (2) options to boot into, but BOTH say: "Windows XP Media Center Edition" and "Windows XP Media Center Edition" However only the TOP one will allow me to bootup.
When I click on the Bottom option, I get the following: Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. I do however want to create a DUAL, or even TRIPLE Boot so I can install a Linux distro, Windows Vista RC1 Beta, and Media Center XP....
Media Centre Edition Support Dual Core
Aug 5, 2006I am building a new system soon and need advice on which version of XP I should use. My system will use an AM2 processor athlon64 and an Asus M2N-E motherboard. However in the future I may get a dual core CPU. Does Media Centre Edition support dual core?Is it worth running 64bit XP?Are there any differences in performance between the different versions?

Sep 17, 2009I'm trying to make a dual boot system Vista/XP with my HP Media Center purchased in 2007 with Vista pre-installed. Inside Vista I created the partition for XP (disk D and rebooted with the 'XP Pro SP2' inside. After selecting its correct partition for installing it copies all files on hard disk and it reboots in order to start its installation, upon rebooting and starting first time from hard disk, it says that there is an error in the system and stops. If I install only XP on the system it works correctly even though some newest hardware is not recognized. I had already made a dual boot two years ago with a 2007 XP Student Edition and it smoothly. If it is due to the XP version being too old that maybe cannot deal with the boot record created by Vista
Or perhaps such an old XP cannot recognize a boot hard disk that is not C:?
Is there a way to bypass this point (perhaps fixing the boot record) in order to continue correctly the installation?

Layer Of Gibberish Beneath And Blank Screen
Dec 12, 2008I was playing "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" on my PC, when suddenly, the computer freezes and the textures in-game became pixelated like rainbows. After hitting Ctrl+Alt+Delete several times, the computer hung at a black screen for a moment, before displaying "No Signal" on my monitor.I rebooted to see the BIOS screen, with the white "HP" logo ridden with black vertical lines. When the computer starts the next phase, my screen is immediately covered with complete gibberish, Qmeas!Semecu!Vie!, letters, numbers, characters, of a language I've never even seen. "Windows" is spelled like "Winewues" or someting, and it's almost impossible to decipher what you're choosing. There appears to be another layer of gibberish beneath the initial gibberish. Jan 19, 2007I'm able to use EZCD 6 Platinum with no problems with DVD-R/W or CDR-W disks, but this is the first time I've tried writing any data files to DVD+R DL single sided double capacity disks. I have updated the Platinum DVD file to recognize the Plextor 740A drive (which is double layered able and also had the firmware updated on it). XP (using its own burning program can't tell that I have a disk in the drive. EZCD Creator can see the drive (but sees the disk as only a 4.7GB capacity so I've tried going over that amount to 'disk 2' to load up the files. As soon as the files are ready to burn, and it loads up the title line with everything, I immediately get the following error:
E80070057: The parameter is incorrect
With no explanation when clicking on Help. I've done a google search and I find many of these type posts in various forums but they all seem to be pretty old posts with no results or resolutions.
Trouble Dual Booting - Characters And Letters Go Blank On Dual Boot Screen
Jun 28, 2010I have been trying to install Windows XP as a second OS as I already have Windows 7 Ultimate installed. Unfortunately, after I select a partition, format it, and reboot the system stalls on the screen after the BIOS that has something to do with a list of devices and such. After 10 or so seconds a few characters and letters go blank randomly on the page. I rebooted and selected my cd drive as the boot device and accidentally didn't press a button in time to boot and a bunch of highlighted numbers were thrown all over the screen and a random smiley face on one of the lines.

Sep 18, 2007Having recently had someone else using my computer for a while, installing various software (like winamp and SubEdit player) it seems windows media player (that's what I use) no longer recognises the usual files as media files like .mp3 .wmv .m3u .avi etc etc so when I click open file and select "media files (all types)" in the file type box it shows nothing, so I have to change it to all files which is irritating. Media player still plays everything fine but this is pretty annoying.

Jan 12, 2009I'm trying to dual boot 2 different installs of xp pro from 2 drives using the Windows boot loader. I've edited the boot.ini every possible way I can think of, but nothing works. I've done this plenty of times using a linux boot loader or dual booting from a single drive but I cant figure this out. I haven't been able to find any reference to this subject anywhere, but I think it would work. Anybody have a clue as to how to do this? I know I can use a different boot manager to accomplish this, I just wanted to make the Win boot.ini work. Or, does anybody know of a good boot manager if I cant make this work?

Aug 1, 2008Since installing SP3 my media centre will not open although the rest of XP runs fine. I get a report 'Strong name validation failed for assembly 'C:Windowsehomeehshell.exe. The file may have been tampered with or it was partially signed but not fully signed with the correct private key.I have the original installation disk from Dell, but it won't recognise the key that came with the pc to re install it. Is there any way I can repair the file in question. I have tried uninstalling sp3, and using the recovery program, but nothing is working to make it work again.

Would you like to save your movie to the hard drive. Yes or No. I have Window XP Media Center Edition 2005. I let someone I know look at my computer he said I needed to replace the drive so I let him. Unfortunately I am still receiving the same message. I can't do that because it is pre installed software. Bios does not give me the option, but even if it did it is supposed to be enabled by default. I have encountered a pop up window (which will not go away) with the message "New Network Detected". It wants me to select home, office, etc.I don't have any windows firewall enabled, but have Norton taking care of it instead.The consensus I'm getting is get rid of Norton, it stinks. Mar 3, 2005I have a friend who is having a problem with his laptop.I don't know what kind of laptop he has but the problem is his laptop cannot detect any cd/dvd rom drives. It will not detect the internal cd/dvd rom or an external dvd rom (connected thru usb2.0). It does however recognise the harddrive. He is using Windows 2000 OS. For obvious reasons he cannot put in the Win2000 CD and reinstall drivers (if that is what the problem is). So, does anyone know what could be wrong? May 30, 2005Ive a disk of 80 GB storage.formatted and partitioned it into 3 partitions, one NTFS, where i installed XP, and the other two FAT32.no other OS installed. now the problem is , it wont boot properly. i mean it starts booting, and where the welcome screen is supposed to come, it goes black. anyway, i noted in partition magic's Check for errors, dat the third partition had a few bad blocks, and ran chkdsk to correct the errors. i thote dat wud solve the problem.but it didn't.so i formatted a second time the last partition only (to FAT32 again), and then it was listed in partition magic,but couldnt be accessed anywhere, in command prompt or windows explorer.

Apr 24, 2006Helping a friend with his computer (Gateway w/XP Home SP2) and discovered his floppy drive does not detect the floppy disk when it is inserted. I was attempting to created Ghost images from the floppy and it would boot into the OS instead of the bootable floppy. Checked BIOS and boot sequence was correct (2nd boot device). Tried 3 different disks still no joy. Clicked on A:/ drive in Windows Explorer (with floppy disk inserted) and got "Device not accessible". Checked floppy drive properties in Device Manager and it says device is operating normally.
I have not yet opened the tower to check connections, but to date the tower has never been opened since the computer was purchased a couple of years ago. I do not know whether the floppy has ever been actually used. My friend doesn't remember ever using it.Checked the bootable floppy in my computer and it worked just fine.
Monitor Not Detected
Oct 23, 2007In reinstalling XP SP2; Monitor works, but only in 680/460 resolution and it cannot be changed. Device manager shows no monitor or driver. The correct driver is Intel 82865G and I cannot find it anywhere in the old files. Can't download it from the Intel site either (problem #2!) Also, I tried shutting down and disconnecting the monitor then restarting with the monitor connected (no luck.)

Upon rebooting, the computer shows me the option on screen (F1)of going into BIOS setup.then shows me a blank screen with the message-Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.I removed that hard drive and tried another working hard drive with WinXp and same message came up. Problem the computer does not respond to my (PS2)keyboard input so that I can at least go into the bios setting. Bought a new Logitech USB keyboard but that too did'nt resolve the problem. Is there a way to update this bios as I noted a new update. Computer is a Compaq presario 1920nx.
