Wont Start Missing Or Corrupt File-Not Telling Which File Is Missing?
Dec 2, 2004I have fixed this problem in the past in repair mode and i want to do the same with this, but, there is no filename at the end of the statement see below Windows could not start because the following file is corrupt or missing windowssystem32configsystem Can this be fixed in repair mode without having to be reformated or reimaged.

Jul 14, 2007My computer refuses to start telling me it is missing windows system32configsystem and suggests I start setup and type r to repair.I have done this and get a menu of commands which I dont have any idea how to use.
I would be grateful if someone can give me step by step instruction on how to proceed.Instruction to do this followed by do next would get me through but it may help me in the future if an explanation of each step is given

Feb 4, 2005So my sister gets hold of a computer in the house and ruins it, and here is the dilemma I am facing: I turn on the computer and right away i come to this message....
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
windowssystem32configSYSTEM
Attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the Original CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.
So I enter the cd rom and press 'r' for repair, I choose C:windows, however before it can begin to repair it asks me for an 'Administration Password' which I have no idea of after many attempts.
I do not want to have to format the pc since I have some very important files on it. Any help is appreciated.
Computer Looks For This File When Starting Up
Aug 1, 2005I had a virus on a file so I deleted it. Now when my computer starts up it keeps looking for the file. I just click "ok" and my computer works fine, but its just annoying that the message loads and my computer won't completely start up till I hit ok. Here is the message:
"Drive or network connection that the shortcut "autostart.ir.lnk" refers to is unavaliable. Make sure the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is avaliable and try again"

Oct 11, 2006Whenever i try to start a file for microsoft word(office version 2003); windows shut down abnormally and system shows an error PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA on our beloved ''blue'' screen. system dumps memory and the count goes till 99 and after that i restart my machine and problem is still there. I dont let windows update itself automatically i.e. it has to ask me for update installation. I have also tried to re-install microsoft office 2003 on the machine but even that didnt work.

Jan 7, 2007was getting a blue screen 07A was told by computer techs without looking it was either my hard drive or my operating system. Checked my hard drive several different ways and no problems. So I went to do a Windows XP repair instead of complete reinstall as they are a pain. After a long time it came back that couldn't do this because SPCMDCOM>SYS file was missing and couldn't repair from recovery console without it. My hard drive was replaced by Dell in July of 05 I think. What can I do without going to extremes? Secondly can I install my cd/dvd rom on my other Dell PC with discs I already have? I am very aggravated. I want to try to save at least 1 computer. On the 1st PC about 2 months ago I had my 17 inch flat panel go out it starts but then go black, I am using the 2nd computers screen!

Nov 26, 2007I have a pc that has mine and a roomates account on it.it would not finish booting to the main Windows desktop screen.It sits at the "Windows XP Home Edition" loading screen for about 2 or so min. then goes black for another 2 min. then a little white arrow cursor comes up and the screen is still black. Whenever I boot up the PC, 3 sessions of MS Word open - 2 sessions have a new (blank) document open, and the 3rd session just shows Word as being open (no new document).I went to Documents and Settings | Application Data | Microsoft | Word | Startup to see if there was anything in the folder prompting Word to open the 3 sessions. The folder was empty. I then clicked Start | Run | msconfig | Enter to see if Winword.exe is in the Startup folder. I thought I might see it in there 3 times – one for each of the Word sessions that are opening whenever I boot up the PC. Strangely enough, Winword.exe wasn’t in the Startup folder at all – not even once.

Oct 30, 2007I have a friend running XP Home that needed to change what program a file type opened with. I had her go to Folder Options to change it but she only has the General and View tabs.Got the file type changed by right clicking and Open With but I'd like some ideas of how to get the missing tabs in Folder Options to show.

Sep 15, 2009I have Office XP loaded on my PC, with added graphic filters, conversion filters and the 2007 compatibility pack loaded. Just yesterday, I tried to open a Word 2007 doc (.docx) which usually opens with the added compatibility filters. When the conversion list appeared, there were only 5 items listed, where there should have been around 20. Can't figure out where they went. I reloaded my filters and compatibility pack, but still can't open file and only get 5 items in conversion table. It almost seems as if the filters are being turned off. Any ideas? Is this a registry problem?
