I can not start in safe mode. I have run windows XP home edition setup from the Dell XP installation disc. when I select either enter to setup windows XP or R to repair using the Recovery Console, I do not ger very far before I again get the blue screen message.

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 1.6ghz 1gb RAM with XP Pro on it for several years now. It has many programs installed on it. I purchased a faster used Dell Dimension 8400 3.6ghz hyperthreading 3gb RAM with XP Pro on it.My question is simple. My Dimension 2400 has an IDE hard drive and the 8400 has SATA. Rather than spend days re-installing and tweaking all of the programs on the 8400 I tried the following. I used Acronis Easy Migrate 7 to Image the IDE hard drive to the SATA hard drive and installed it into the 8400. It would not boot, I tried a repair install, then while booting I get a blue screen stop Error 0x0000007B. What do I have to do to fix this so it will boot?

My Dell was running perfectly. I turned it off for a couple of months. When I turned it back on nothing at all happens. A friend said it could be the power supply. I looked inside and found a lot of dust. Don't know what the internal power supply looks like.

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 running windows xp home. 2.99GHZ processor and 58 GB free space left. My problem: My computer automatically goes into hibernation mode and will not start up again for at least 5-10 minutes after. It gives no warning whatsoever when this happens. I'm risking it happening right now. I have the computer set to stay on at all times. All power options are set to "never" turn off.

I have a Dell dimension 8400 running XP. Error on startup reads:checking file system on C:The type of the file system is NTFS The volume is dirt CHKDSK goes through all 3 stages and completes them. The last thing it says is 'Usn Journal verification completed'.But nothing else will respond. I have pulled the plug and started in safe mode, same thing happens or it will run a bunch of dos commands and stop with no result.I have read lots of other threads but I can't find the same exact problem. I can't get to a dos prompt (i think) to type in some of the commands I read about.

I would like to upgrade my Dell 8400's graphic card.I am not a gamer.I just purchased a 21" HP widescreen monitor that is capable of 1920x1080 to replace the original (4:3 aspect ratio)Dell monitor that came with the computer.I just want a good quality,name-brand card that will provide the 1920x1080 resolution for the new monitor. The card that came with the computer is not capable of that resolution. My operating system is Windows XP.

My hard drive's windows files have become corrupt and I need the files on it, so I purchased a new hard drive. I can't seem to install Windows XP Home onto the new hard drive. Everything goes fine, but then I get an error message saying it can't install the product catalogs. Is this because I'm using a reinstall CD that was provided by Dell.

I am having a hard time with running a chkdsk/f I can not get to any other screen but that. I didnt not have a problem with this computer until the large battery went out on my surge protector and when I moved it to my husbands music room (because his computer got a virus) Upon start up it gives the the options to start up normal, safe mode ect. Well I dont know what to do...I believe the f drive is my 3.5 disc drive it is dusty inside there and blew some out, that did not help and then I unplugged it, no help with that either. Any suggestions will help as I am unable to figure out what to do.

I've been trying to bring my husband's older Dell 8100 P4 desktop back to life. It was an old ME system initially. I've done the following:Replaced the motherboard and ide cables New CMOS battery Flashed BIOS Replaced and upgraded the memory Reformatted the harddrive (using another system) and loaded Win XP Pro I've used this same harddrive (with XP Pro) sucessfully on another Dell so I know there is nothing wrong with the boot files. But when I install it in the broke Dell...no joy.
It hangs in the "Windows can not start normally" pick Safe Mode, Last Known Good Config...etc loop. None of the options work and it flashes a quick BSOD dump error (too fast for me to see) and then back through the loop. The BIOS recognizes all the drives, the memory, processor, etc.I also tried to boot with alot of the extra hardware removed (removed NIC, sound card, modem, un-hooked optical drives, etc) --- still same no-boot loop.

My dad's Dell 8400 is having a series of issues. He posted a similar thread in the Hardware forum, but it's possible it might be more than hardware, so checking here to see if ya'll might have some suggestions (as I know this forum gets more visibility and he's getting anxious). He turned on the computer last night to have it not booting up at all. It gave a series of 4 beeps followed by 2 beeps, and then wouldn't do anything after that. He tried multiple times, with one or two of them bring him to the BSD asking to boot in safe mode or system restore.

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 desktop running WinXP Home however It won't boot to the hard drive. I replaced the drive with a known working one and it still doesn't boot, says Diskette Drive 0 Not Found, however I figured that was referring to the floppy drive. Tried switching the ide cables around and that didn't work either. The power supply is working, as well as all of the fans. Its running a 1700mh processor. Cd-Rom works fine, and I can boot to a CD, I can browse the files if I boot to Knoppix, however it simply won't boot to the Hard Drive. I ran FixMbR and FixBoot in the recovery console, to no avail. Bios is configured properly, and I haven't touched the jumpers. Just to be sure I tried the hard drive in another system, and it wouldn't boot in that one either. Might be the mother board?

Checking computer for a friend. It is a Pentium 4 2.80GHz running windows xp, bios ver. A01, 512MB memory. They called Dell and were told to take it to a technician, which I am not, and they cannot afford it.When turned on it showed the Dell logo and then asked for a password which they had no idea what it was. It would not do anything at all. After doing a lot of reading on this forum and others I decided to remove the password by changing the jumper on the motherboard that said ctr password for,30 seconds, and then putting it back in place and start the computer again. It then booted to a screen that said " We appologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. After some more explaining of possible causes it had the options of starting in, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Safe Mode with Networking, Last known good configeration, Start Windows normally. Use the up and down arrows to highlight your choice. When I do highlight any one of the choices and hit enter the computer stops responding at all.
I can now get in and check the system info etc. It showed no password. It also shows no cdrom installed and it has a cdrom and dvd. It only shows the hard drive and floppy drive. The hard drive is a Segate Barracuda 7200.7 80 Gbytes.I ran the diagnostics that are on the computer and everything checked out except the Read Test on the hard drive. It said IDE Disk Error Code 0F00.0244 Msg Block 77765935. Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected.I then tried to run a virus check from Fix-It Utilities on floppy. After the second disc it stopped and said it was unable to read drive c to restore boot area.Did I do something to the hard drive by removing the password and is there any way to check the hard drive for a virus? I don't understand why Dell told them to take it to a tech.

Dell 8400 desktop..On bootup, the Dell logo screen appears and goes to a 'dos-like' screen advising: Floppy diskette seek failure, strike F1 key to continue or F2 to run Setup Utility'.I get no response from F1 other than a beep. F2 brings me to the setup menu, but can I get to safe mode just in case my 5.5 yr old computer is about dead? Dell just replaced the motherboard & power supply in Oct after that quit working after a surge protected power outage. I don't have many personal files on the C drive other than my iTunes & my email

I am trying to fix a friends notebook but every time I turn on the computer it takes me to the safe mode selection and which ever mode I select, it starts loading but breaks out to the blue screen with the following error: 0x001902030x8e572b80xc00001020x00000000. I had this machine about a month ago and after checking the Hd and cleaning it I uninstalled Norton security and installed avira. I took it back to him and I thought everything was OK but he said he had put it in a closet for a couple of weeks and when he tried to turn it on it stopped on the Blue screen every time. I would run chkdsk /f if I could get to the CMD prompt but can never get past this error. 0x001902030x8e572b80xc00001020x00000000 Anyone have any advice for me. I don't have his XP disk but can probably get it if I need to.

I had a computer, a Dell Inspiron B130, and I was about to run the last released version of the DooM source port Risen3d. Earlier, I had turned up the volume due to a music file being very low. The result was E1M1 blasting to all the people in the very small room. I tried to turn the volume down, but the old PC was having a hard enough time loading all the hiresolution textures and MD2 models. The power button wouldn't work, so I closed the cover and started to walk out. The music stopped, and the power lights went off. I opened the cover to restart the comp, then the lights came back on, the music blaring again, and I was starting to get stared at. I'm very shy, so I just pulled the plug on the laptop. The battery wasn't connected properly, and the power was cut instantly. Everything stopped, and I waited for a while to let thing cool off (one problem with the PC is that it doesn't ever give me heat errors even though the botom is about to melt off).
I put the battery back in properly, and turned it on. It went normal, showing me the Dell BIOS screen, then the second BIOS screen, then the boot options came on. It said to choose reboot normaly if you didn't know what happened or there was a power failure. I chose it, and after the Windows boot screen came up (I am running Windows XP Home Edition) and the little blue bar went all the way accross, a blue screen came up with an error message. A wiser computer man than I said to just leave it alone for a while, so I'll give what I remember. It was saying how an error had come up and something like "SECTION3_INITIALIZATION_FAILED" and said ***STOP (some address here, when I try again I'll post it) I didn't have a reboot button, so I had to cold restart. I tried every boot mode available, and safe mode gave me the same errors. The only thing that works is the diagnostics partition of the hard drive. It says all is well, and everything surely isn't right. The original operating system is on there, and no recovery disk is included. It shouldn't be a virus or a malware, I have had no problems until now. If the system is toast, tell me what I should do to get some data off the drive, I need some of that stuff. (as in almost life and death need, but more like a money loss need)
