When i start up my dell 8400 it goes straight to the black screen stating windows did not shut down properly and asks to start in normal safe mode so on... no matter which option i choose it goes straight to the blue screen stating the physical dump of memory how can i fix this problem
I get a blue screen when I boot up my Dell Dimension 8400 (XP Home Edition). The message indicates that it is a registry error. I have not added any new hardware or software or any drivers recently. I can not start in safe mode. I have run windows XP home edition setup from the Dell XP installation disc. when I select either enter to setup windows XP or R to repair using the Recovery Console, I do not ger very far before I again get the blue screen message.
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 1.6ghz 1gb RAM with XP Pro on it for several years now. It has many programs installed on it. I purchased a faster used Dell Dimension 8400 3.6ghz hyperthreading 3gb RAM with XP Pro on it.My question is simple. My Dimension 2400 has an IDE hard drive and the 8400 has SATA. Rather than spend days re-installing and tweaking all of the programs on the 8400 I tried the following. I used Acronis Easy Migrate 7 to Image the IDE hard drive to the SATA hard drive and installed it into the 8400. It would not boot, I tried a repair install, then while booting I get a blue screen stop Error 0x0000007B. What do I have to do to fix this so it will boot?
Sometimes this computer will start, sometimes it wont When it doesnt, the On button just flashes orange, when it should be solid green. Sometimes it will start up and get to the log on screen and then just shut down and flash orange. It works fine when it does turn on. Iv been through the dell help and support stuff and that doesnt help
My Dell was running perfectly. I turned it off for a couple of months. When I turned it back on nothing at all happens. A friend said it could be the power supply. I looked inside and found a lot of dust. Don't know what the internal power supply looks like.
I have a Dell Dimension 8400 running windows xp home. 2.99GHZ processor and 58 GB free space left. My problem: My computer automatically goes into hibernation mode and will not start up again for at least 5-10 minutes after. It gives no warning whatsoever when this happens. I'm risking it happening right now. I have the computer set to stay on at all times. All power options are set to "never" turn off.
I have a Dell dimension 8400 running XP. Error on startup reads:checking file system on C:The type of the file system is NTFS The volume is dirt CHKDSK goes through all 3 stages and completes them. The last thing it says is 'Usn Journal verification completed'.But nothing else will respond. I have pulled the plug and started in safe mode, same thing happens or it will run a bunch of dos commands and stop with no result.I have read lots of other threads but I can't find the same exact problem. I can't get to a dos prompt (i think) to type in some of the commands I read about.
Had a major crash and now can not install windows on the Dell pc as it can not see the hard drives anymore.
Installed a brand new hard drive and still no luck just says can not locate a hard drive to install windows on, done a check in the bios on the hard drive and it says it's fine but can not see it on the fresh install.
I would like to upgrade my Dell 8400's graphic card.I am not a gamer.I just purchased a 21" HP widescreen monitor that is capable of 1920x1080 to replace the original (4:3 aspect ratio)Dell monitor that came with the computer.I just want a good quality,name-brand card that will provide the 1920x1080 resolution for the new monitor. The card that came with the computer is not capable of that resolution. My operating system is Windows XP.
My hard drive's windows files have become corrupt and I need the files on it, so I purchased a new hard drive. I can't seem to install Windows XP Home onto the new hard drive. Everything goes fine, but then I get an error message saying it can't install the product catalogs. Is this because I'm using a reinstall CD that was provided by Dell.
My dad's Dell 8400 is having a series of issues. He posted a similar thread in the Hardware forum, but it's possible it might be more than hardware, so checking here to see if ya'll might have some suggestions (as I know this forum gets more visibility and he's getting anxious). He turned on the computer last night to have it not booting up at all. It gave a series of 4 beeps followed by 2 beeps, and then wouldn't do anything after that. He tried multiple times, with one or two of them bring him to the BSD asking to boot in safe mode or system restore.
We have a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP installed. We also have Norton Internet Security 2007, Windows Defender, and do not seem to have any viruses or spyware. Out hard drive is just under half full (17.5 GB of 37.2 GB).takes 5 or 6 minutes from the time we turn on the computer until we can actually do something with it (connect to the internet with IE or check email with Outlook 2003). I uninstalled Google Desktop and turned off Windows Messenger (from the start menu), both of which helped some (used to be even slower). I have tried to uninstall Dell Alert (which starts every time) but am unable to with Uninstall Programs and cannot find DAMon.exe to just delete that. Once it is up and running, the PC is reasonably fast (the problem is just at the startup and first 5 to 10 minutes). I have a newer laptop I use on our wireless network and it connects very quickly to the internet so that is not the problem (as far as I can tell). We did recently switch from a cable modem to slightly slower DSL.
I have a Dell Dimension 8200 desktop running WinXP Home however It won't boot to the hard drive. I replaced the drive with a known working one and it still doesn't boot, says Diskette Drive 0 Not Found, however I figured that was referring to the floppy drive. Tried switching the ide cables around and that didn't work either. The power supply is working, as well as all of the fans. Its running a 1700mh processor. Cd-Rom works fine, and I can boot to a CD, I can browse the files if I boot to Knoppix, however it simply won't boot to the Hard Drive. I ran FixMbR and FixBoot in the recovery console, to no avail. Bios is configured properly, and I haven't touched the jumpers. Just to be sure I tried the hard drive in another system, and it wouldn't boot in that one either. Might be the mother board?
i bought this dell demension 4550 used i turn it on it says to hit f12 to reboot i do that and it comes back to the same f12 reboot how do i fix this problem
All of a sudden when I start my dell - it does not boot.I just get an amber blinking light on the start up button. Nothing on the monitor. We have had many power outages in my area after which this happens. After a day or so the Dell will boot up. Yesterday I just pressed restart and since then all I am getting is the amber blinking light again on the start up button and nothing on the screen.
Checking computer for a friend. It is a Pentium 4 2.80GHz running windows xp, bios ver. A01, 512MB memory. They called Dell and were told to take it to a technician, which I am not, and they cannot afford it.When turned on it showed the Dell logo and then asked for a password which they had no idea what it was. It would not do anything at all. After doing a lot of reading on this forum and others I decided to remove the password by changing the jumper on the motherboard that said ctr password for,30 seconds, and then putting it back in place and start the computer again. It then booted to a screen that said " We appologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. After some more explaining of possible causes it had the options of starting in, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Safe Mode with Networking, Last known good configeration, Start Windows normally. Use the up and down arrows to highlight your choice. When I do highlight any one of the choices and hit enter the computer stops responding at all.
I can now get in and check the system info etc. It showed no password. It also shows no cdrom installed and it has a cdrom and dvd. It only shows the hard drive and floppy drive. The hard drive is a Segate Barracuda 7200.7 80 Gbytes.I ran the diagnostics that are on the computer and everything checked out except the Read Test on the hard drive. It said IDE Disk Error Code 0F00.0244 Msg Block 77765935. Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected.I then tried to run a virus check from Fix-It Utilities on floppy. After the second disc it stopped and said it was unable to read drive c to restore boot area.Did I do something to the hard drive by removing the password and is there any way to check the hard drive for a virus? I don't understand why Dell told them to take it to a tech.
I left a MICROSOFT WORD CD in the player and shutdown, the next day I turn on the computer and the CD started up, and it has gone to black screen with cursor each time I start it now. I get 2 choices, F2 or F12. The 4 code lights on the back panel are all green indicating no problems, what can I try?
I got a used Dell Demension 8400, XP Home installed (OEM). I own a copy of XP Home which is not installed on any other machine, I tried updating drilling down through using regedit...it does take the product key. What might I be doing wrong? Thanks.
Dell 8400 desktop..On bootup, the Dell logo screen appears and goes to a 'dos-like' screen advising: Floppy diskette seek failure, strike F1 key to continue or F2 to run Setup Utility'.I get no response from F1 other than a beep. F2 brings me to the setup menu, but can I get to safe mode just in case my 5.5 yr old computer is about dead? Dell just replaced the motherboard & power supply in Oct after that quit working after a surge protected power outage. I don't have many personal files on the C drive other than my iTunes & my email
Transferred all information from Dimension (Dell) to Dell XPS 410. Both computers using XP program. When I start to use my Picasa program I have a continual pop up that says " The DLL "cpuinf32.dll" can not be loaded. OS reports: The specifdied module could not be fouind. Am no computeer whiz--so this is all "Greek" to me. What should I do to correct this?
I recently returned to Kliptsch a pair of speakers which were not functioning well. While waiting for the replacements, I am unable to get any sound out of the computer. This includes streaming radio broadcasts as well as TV clips.
I first had this problem when I tried to do the first installation. When it would get to the part of the setup in windows mode, it would just keep rebooting. I was able to finally get it to finish installing, and it seemed to be working fine, untill I tried to make sure all my drivers, applications, and my cable internet conection were installed.
I often but not always get an error message when working online. I am not sure whether it is a dell problem or my internet service provider. I have dial up. A small box pops up in my face and it says . . . windows must now shut down because the RPC service terminated. System shutdown initiated by NT/AUTHORITY then it counts down 60 sec and shuts off my computer. I have no control when it does this, i cannot X it out or make it stop. Very annoying. Sometimes it goes for hours and does not do anything, sometimes it will do it 3 times in 30 min. I have scanned for virus' and it comes up clear.
i'm working on a dell dimension 2400.windows crashed and there are no restore cds.i formated the hardrive and installed win xp professional.in device manager i don't have drivers for the ethernet controller and the usb controller.does anyone know where i can find these?
I've got an old Dell Dimension XPS T450 Pent-450 which had Windows Me but I put 2000 in it. Ran fine untill I tried to add memory. I put the memory back the way it was but now I get a window saying "THE LOGON USER INTERFACE DLL MSGINA DLL FAILED TO LOAD" What do I do to fix this problem?
This has probably been asked before so feel free to respond with a link.I have a dell Dimension 4600 which i have reinstalled windows xp HE on countless times. It has never mentioned its license or asked for the code on the side.My friend has dell Inspiron 2500 laptop. She has had it for 6-7 years now and has never done a reinstall or reformat, so naturally its on its last legs.
I have really screwed up my computer --dell dimension 2400 ? talk about a mess. I wanted to clean off the hard drive, so I tried to reinstall xp using a friend?s cd because the only xp cd I could find was an upgrade (from win98).I don?t know what I did wrong (or if the problem was with the cd), but setup got into a loop we could not get out of.Since I had my xp cd to upgrade from 98, we tried to install win98. It did clean off the hard drive, but it failed to install completely and now the cd drive will not work. And when I click on IE, an error message ?Msoobe? comes up and says it has perfomed an illegal operation and shuts down.My brother also has a dell dimension 2400, and he thought there was a way to reset the computer to its original configuation. I tried the Control+F11 that he suggested, but the screen says it needs a device file to run that it cannot find. There is a line that reads Vnetbios.
I am looking to upgrade the memory on my Dell Dimension 2400 to at least 512 mb. I have heard that you have to purchase a specific kind of ram (dell certified?) and that it won't just use any kind of brand. Is this true? If so, can someone point me in the right direction.I know that it must be DDR PC2700/333 but I'm unclear as to which brand to buy.I spoke with Dell and hung up unclear (she spoke very poor english) so really got nowhere.
