View 7 Replies View RelatedMy Dell was running perfectly. I turned it off for a couple of months. When I turned it back on nothing at all happens. A friend said it could be the power supply. I looked inside and found a lot of dust. Don't know what the internal power supply looks like.

View 1 Replies View RelatedDell 8400 desktop..On bootup, the Dell logo screen appears and goes to a 'dos-like' screen advising: Floppy diskette seek failure, strike F1 key to continue or F2 to run Setup Utility'.I get no response from F1 other than a beep. F2 brings me to the setup menu, but can I get to safe mode just in case my 5.5 yr old computer is about dead? Dell just replaced the motherboard & power supply in Oct after that quit working after a surge protected power outage. I don't have many personal files on the C drive other than my iTunes & my email
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Dimension 8400 running windows xp home. 2.99GHZ processor and 58 GB free space left. My problem: My computer automatically goes into hibernation mode and will not start up again for at least 5-10 minutes after. It gives no warning whatsoever when this happens. I'm risking it happening right now. I have the computer set to stay on at all times. All power options are set to "never" turn off.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell dimension 8400 running XP. Error on startup reads:checking file system on C:The type of the file system is NTFS The volume is dirt CHKDSK goes through all 3 stages and completes them. The last thing it says is 'Usn Journal verification completed'.But nothing else will respond. I have pulled the plug and started in safe mode, same thing happens or it will run a bunch of dos commands and stop with no result.I have read lots of other threads but I can't find the same exact problem. I can't get to a dos prompt (i think) to type in some of the commands I read about.

I would like to upgrade my Dell 8400's graphic card.I am not a gamer.I just purchased a 21" HP widescreen monitor that is capable of 1920x1080 to replace the original (4:3 aspect ratio)Dell monitor that came with the computer.I just want a good quality,name-brand card that will provide the 1920x1080 resolution for the new monitor. The card that came with the computer is not capable of that resolution. My operating system is Windows XP.
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy hard drive's windows files have become corrupt and I need the files on it, so I purchased a new hard drive. I can't seem to install Windows XP Home onto the new hard drive. Everything goes fine, but then I get an error message saying it can't install the product catalogs. Is this because I'm using a reinstall CD that was provided by Dell.
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy dad's Dell 8400 is having a series of issues. He posted a similar thread in the Hardware forum, but it's possible it might be more than hardware, so checking here to see if ya'll might have some suggestions (as I know this forum gets more visibility and he's getting anxious). He turned on the computer last night to have it not booting up at all. It gave a series of 4 beeps followed by 2 beeps, and then wouldn't do anything after that. He tried multiple times, with one or two of them bring him to the BSD asking to boot in safe mode or system restore.

The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of "0xc000009c".The laptop is slower than normal. Everything else seems to work apart from the internet and msn messenger, which will load up to begin with, but is slow, but then when something is typed into google or i put my information into msn messenger to log on it freezes and says they are not responding to send error report.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Dimension 2400 1.6ghz 1gb RAM with XP Pro on it for several years now. It has many programs installed on it. I purchased a faster used Dell Dimension 8400 3.6ghz hyperthreading 3gb RAM with XP Pro on it.My question is simple. My Dimension 2400 has an IDE hard drive and the 8400 has SATA. Rather than spend days re-installing and tweaking all of the programs on the 8400 I tried the following. I used Acronis Easy Migrate 7 to Image the IDE hard drive to the SATA hard drive and installed it into the 8400. It would not boot, I tried a repair install, then while booting I get a blue screen stop Error 0x0000007B. What do I have to do to fix this so it will boot?
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy Compaq Presario 7470 was on its last legs (error messages, blue Fatal Expressions, cutting out and starting over) when I retrieved as many files as I could on compressed cds (Ce Quadrat Packet) before Windows Explorer stopped letting me access. I now have an eMachines T6410 with Windows XP and I can't open these files to read them nor copy them to my present system. eMachines suggests connecting the old pc to this via cable and accessing in that manner, but, I did a Restore on the old one before the monitor went completely blank so there's nothing to access. Surely there must be somebody out there who has had a similar situation, transferring backups that were created in Windows 98SE and compressed and now need to be accessed and copied on Windows XP! PLEASE HELP! (My 5-year collection of music is on these cds!)

View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently reinstalled Windows XP Home w/SP2 on a system and everything worked well. I also installed a Seagate 500 GB HDD as a slave drive. I had no problems assigning a drive letter (D:) and mapping it as a network drive. Then yesterday, a Windows error message popped up saying there was "Delayed Write Failure" or something similar. It was at that point the the slave drive became inaccessible. I can still see the drive in My Computer but that is all. I went into disk management and click on properties, it says the file system is "RAW". I have no idea what that means.
The drive is still assigning a drive letter (d:) and it says is it is healthy (active). However, when I try exploring the drive it says "D: is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable"." I then tried using CHKDSK to check the drive for errors in the DOS prompt. But again, nothing happened. I used Seagate Diagnostic tools to scan the drive for errors. There is nothing physically wrong with the drive as it passed all the tests except for the file structure test.
File or Directory C:$MFT is corrupt or unreadable. Run CHKDSK /f.Got this message on a WinXP Home SP2 box. I can't run chkdsk /f because I'm using the disk (obviously) When I reboot however, the system does it's own chkdsk but doesn't find any errors. The message keeps coming back. I don't get any hits when I
search the KB.
The drive in question is a dynamic data disk, not my system drive. I had reason to re-install windows onto my system drive. Before I did that I checked to make sure that the data drive, which is formatted as an NTFS drive, and is a dynamic disk, was intact and functioning ok. With XP installed on the system drive I went to look for the data drive in explorer (have done this procedure on many occasions without problems) and could not see the drive. Go to administrative tools and I see a message that says the drive is unreadable.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have two hard drives in my computer. The first disk contains XP and the software, the second contains personal stuff. The second disk is installed using NTFS dynamic disk. Last weekedend I formated the XP disk, and installed XP again. After installing, the second disk comes up as "unreadable" dynamic disk. Is there a way to make it readable? I haven't done anything to it, so all the data should be there.

after waking my computer up from screen saver and trying to minimize an internet explorer, everything froze. I restarted it by reset switch, and an "NTLDR missing" message came. I started windows by recovery console and I was able to log on to my windows installation (I did nothing, because i have forgotten how to replace NTLDR!). I checked the connection IDE cable to my primary ATA hard drive (disk 0) and the message didn't appear again. Windows started and just before displaying welcome screen "the blue crash screen" came up and computer restarted automatically. I was not able to read the error message because I saw the blue screen just as a splash! I tried recovery console again and it did not recognize my windows installation. then i tried to install windows again. there were 4 drive available.....
I recently got a new computer with Win XP. I had backed up all my files on floppy disk, and then transferred those to a CD. When I try to access the files on my new computer, they are all in computer language. Can anyone tell me what I should do to be able to access files in English?
