Uninstalled A Program Computer Game Lagging

Nov 27, 2009

I've recently uninstalled a program I had on my computer called Venturi2. It had been running in the background and didn't seem to be serving any purpose so did so. I did get the feeling it had something to do with graphics though. This was maybe 2 days ago. I tried playing a game right now (Command and Conquer) and for some reason it was lagging horribly. I've ran it fine in the past. Are these two things related? Either way is there some way to redownload the program? I've tried googling all over but the only links I find are linking to an informer.com domain, whereupon it says it doesnt have the software but to try googling it.

Running A Non-online Game Runs The CPU Usage

Jan 18, 2006

I was helped by Flrman1 last weekend in getting rid of a trojan, and it worked great. Scans come up clean now. But since contracting it even up to today, my machine seems to be running sluggish. Even running a non-online game runs the CPU usage to 100%. Have I too many things running in the background, and how can I get rid of unnecessary stuff? I fear some things are running that I did not intentionally put on there.

Computer Appears Locked: CPU Runs At 100% For Lengthy Periods With No Program Running

Aug 27, 2006

Using a Toshiba Satellite 1800 Laptop 1GHz Intel P3 - BIOS Ver 1.90 04/18/2002.

The past week or two it seems that the computer locks up, the Task Manager shows the CPU running at 100%. It allows some activity all be it slow & shutting down all programs (which are not locked up) does not stop the activity - including disconnecting the internet. Have run Norton scan, Spybot S&D and Adaware with nothing of significance found. Ran HiJackThis and found some startup stuff and stopped them from running but I don't know enough about the programs that are running to remove them.

Last time I booted I had to force a shutdown after waiting for 15 minutes. Next reboot took 22 minutes for the CPU to back off of 100%. I started Task Mgr very early into the boot, just before the icons started to appear and it showed 33 processes running. I watched as 14 more started up all while the CPU was steady at 100% usage. Then at 5 minutes after booting the processor dropped to 50% bounced around for a minute then went back to 100%. There was some activity through the modem (cable) but not very much. I unplugged the modem power. I shut down Skype, MSN Messenger and MS Defender and about a minute later the CPU dropped to 27%. Nothing of what I shut down appeared to alter anything.

I hope someone can see something...

Here is my latest HiJackThis log

Chkdsk Auto-runs On Boot But Won't Complete

Nov 5, 2009

Today when booting up the pc, chkdsk autostarts (it usually doesn't..) but it hangs in the same place each time.I'm running XP (updated), but not in English, so the quotes are translated as accuratly as I can: It first confirms files (step 1 of 3) It then confirms index(?) (2 of 3) It then says "Correcting error in index $I30 for the file 106330" (twice)And then "sorting index $ I30 in file 106330" Then it just stand like that (waited 3 hrs). There is no sort of "work noise" or lights from the machine, just the fans.. I've tried restarting a few times, but no difference. The only thing I did yesterday that might have had this kind of effect is installing Gimp, but I can't see how.

Right Click On C Drive Runs An Install Program

Nov 11, 2007

Recently cleaned up a friend's very infected machine. The jury is still out as to how much damage was done (specifically to the registry), but something weird is going on. When I right click the C drive in My Computer, the EZ CD Creator 5 install program starts executing. I didn't see a autorun.inf file or on the drive which is the only thing I can think of. Any ideas?

Figured I'd add some more info. I've installed a second drive to take backups to. Backup of 12G of data to the drive while the OS was up took 1.5 hours, took much less from an emergency disk, weird. XP SP2 256K memory. I'm also getting a windowformsparkingwindow popup on a shutdown. Reasonably sure this is due to HP stuff on the machine. Java is busted up but I wanted to start getting the backups going before uninstalling that and reinstalling.

Batch Program Kills Mim.exe Then Runs Shutdown.exe

Sep 3, 2005

I am using musicmatch jukebox. excellent program, however mim.exe added in vs 10 is rather annoying. slows shutdown dramatically. would like to write a batch program that kills mim.exe then runs shutdown.exe(-r, -u, etc). i am thinking that killing mim will allow xp to shutdown properly(at least the same day....a little humour...very little).

End Program Not Running - Quite Often Longer

Mar 20, 2010

when I try to end them it takes an inordinately long time. Like two or more minutes. I bring up Task Manager, highlight the "not running " program and click "end task" which brings up another box that says "end program". But when I click this box nothing happens for at least a couple of minutes, quite often longer. I can repeat this process over and over and it makes no difference.

Auto Check Program Not Found-skipping Autocheck

Mar 13, 2005

I seemed to have run into a problem. I'm running xp pro w/ sp2. I usually keep my computer on all the time but yesterday I turned it off. When I turned it back on this morning, I got a message "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem". I followed some advise online which told me to use the recovery option using my win xp cd. When I rebooted it seemed to work ok but then came another message, "Autochk program not found- skipping Autocheck" then it reboots. It keeps doing this over and over again. I found some more advise online which told me to copy the program from my win xp cd to the harddrive using the recovery option.

Computer Always Runs Slow

Sep 10, 2009

It takes up to 15 minutes to start up when you first turn it on. Often takes up to 20 seconds for programs to come up when you hit start. Virtually all software programs take time to come up, even little ones like Notepad. Have lots of slowdowns and freeze ups when using the internet, including trying to type in url's. Anytime the computer isn't in use for a little while, starting up again is always very slow with frequent little freeze ups. Lately, even when we first turn the computer on, we get a low on virtual memory warning in the lower right corner. Somebody told me this could be the problem. If so, why would it need more memory now than in the past when it worked ok?We actually deleted lots of files and some software programs not be used, including video games. We used Spybot, Malwarebytes and our anti virus program a few days back and all 3 came up with no problems.

When trying to install XP pro SP2 it got all the way to the partition setup and it did not read the HDD at all. If I press enter anyway I get a BSOD that has a setupdd.exe error. I have researched this error and it seems to relate to hardware incompatibility. I tried installing XP pro with the service pack 3 beta slipstreamed in and had the same problem. I also tried Black XP and it would not even boot from the disk. Then as a last resort I tried installing LastXP and it seemed to have alot better luck. It read the HDD and started installing but it always fails to copy the file "iastor75.sys" and after clicking "skip" it finishes the setup and reboots to another BSOD. I have no idea what iastor75.sys is. I have tried google searches and found nothing conclusive.

BTW my laptop is a Gateway MT6730.

I really really really want XP on this computer. Do you guys think that if I slipstreamed in some chipset and HDD drivers onto the XP disk it would work?

Any comments on this would be greatly appreciated.

My computer starts going really slow after about 11:00-12:00 PM-AM (Programs take forever to start/open and games take about 20 minutes to load.) until i wake up (About 10-11:45 AM ). Anywho I was wondering if there is any thing I can do to help my computer run fast for 24/7, give or take.Just to let you know I'm Not that good with technical stuff, so if there's any that would be difficult for a noob you'll have to explain slowly.

Computer Lagging Really Bad Not Game Related

Feb 1, 2005

I thought it was this new game i installed, it would lag about every minute and a half, for about 10 seconds at a time. So i uninstalled the game. The only problem is now the computer seems to get bogged down much easier (running AIM and windows media player at the same time makes WMP songs slow), and enters 10 second "slow periods". This never used to happen.

Computer Restarts During Game Install

May 20, 2010

I'm a bit baffled by this problem here... I have just bought a game from the shops, put the CD in, and start the install, but then when its about half way through the install, the computer just restarts without an error screen or anything.I'm attempting to make a CD ISO Image to install from that, to see if it has anything to do with my CD/DVD Rom, but otherwise, what could this problem be?I have the latest version of direct-X installed, latest version of dot.net, latest version of graphics card drivers, and the windows installation is fresh, and had no errors during install, so it wouldn't be windows. The system I am running is an Intel I7 core 860, 3G RAM, with XP Professional service pack 2.
