Auto Check Program Not Found-skipping Autocheck
Mar 13, 2005
I seemed to have run into a problem. I'm running xp pro w/ sp2. I usually keep my computer on all the time but yesterday I turned it off. When I turned it back on this morning, I got a message "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windowssystem32configsystem". I followed some advise online which told me to use the recovery option using my win xp cd. When I rebooted it seemed to work ok but then came another message, "Autochk program not found- skipping Autocheck" then it reboots. It keeps doing this over and over again. I found some more advise online which told me to copy the program from my win xp cd to the harddrive using the recovery option.

I tried to log on to the internet (dial-up). The dialer panel came up, I hit dial, and it closed. I tried again with the same result. I restarted hoping it woud fix it. It got the the Windows XP loading screen, then went to a light blue screen w/ dark blue bars at the top and bottom (the new bsod) and displayed two messages that said the same thing: autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK After about five seconds the computer reboots and repeats the process.
After the BIOS boot and before the Windows XP load screen, there is a recovery option. I tried this and got into the Gateway System Recovery. It says "Starting Recovery..." with a progress bar and then goes to this BSOD: STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure The registry cannot load the hive (file): SystemRootSystem32ConfigSECURITY or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable. At this point the screen just stays there and the computer responds to nothing but the power button.

I recently screwed up my computer by running a crappy reg-edit program which deleted a bunch of important registry and I started to get messages asking me to insert XP SP3 CD to install the files but I didnt have one so I tried rebooting. Upon rebooting I got a black screen saying "ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupted please reinstall ntoskrn.exe" In my panic state I used my XP recovery disks but they just installed another version of windows on my HD. So I used my XP install CD to get into the recovery console and I copied over the files from the CD to my HD.

my computer has been operating very slowly lately, and my computer protection software (Defender Pro 5 in 1) detected an apparently infected driver. The notification said that the driver was infected by an email virus and it recommended deleting the driver. Thinking that it couldn't cause much harm, I took the recommendation and deleted the driver. The next time I started my computer, it seemed to boot normally: it showed the normal XP home edition loading screen, then it showed the blue screen of death! The screen said something like "autocheck.exe not found. Skipping autocheck."

When I boot up my computer, I get several messages from Windows which read this way: "[insert file with a .exe extension here] - Corrupt File The file or directory C:WINDOWSsystem32UACmqiemusiwu.dll is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility." This message comes up every time that I try to run an executable file and seems to prevent some of them from running altogether. I can run Chkdsk in Safe Mode, but after it completes file verification it says "Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read only mode." I have a virus (Total Security 2009) that is preventing the computer from displaying the command prompt in regular mode, but the programs that I need to get ride of the virus are all executable and cant be installed because of this glitch. Any help with what this file UACmqiemusiwu.dll is or how to fix it would be great. I've tried deleting it, but the computer won't let me because it is corrupt and unreadable.

I was wondering if you gurus can give me some direction.I run a Specials Menu on a large LCD TV at a restaurant using powerpoint. There are two specials files (lunch.pps and dinner.pps)When this system reboots, i want a batch file to determine which powerpoint file to open based on what time it is.ON BOOTUP: For instance, if it's anywhere between 11am and 3pm, open the lunch file. If its any other time, run the dinner.pps file. Make sense?
Im already running a scheduled tasks application that shuts down one and starts up the other based on what time. This works very well. Problem is, i frequently Remote Desktop into this machine and make changes. Once those changes are made, i have to reboot the system. I then want this batch file to start the appropriate presentation since the scheduled task application only works when it sees 11am or 3pm (as in the example above)I figured since you can determine time and date within a batch file, can't you do an if /then/else type script within a batch? (if its *this time* then load THIS application)

Tried installing a program but it needed DirectX8.1.. Went to MS site and found that DX8.1 is already installed in XP. DOwnloaded and reinstalled anyway. Program still doesn't find it. Think it may be a registry problem but am hesitant to fool around with it. Anyone know how to make XP default to DX8.1? (There are other DirectX's in registry, i.e DX3, DX6 etc. Think it may be defaulting to one of these.

I tried with Partition Magic 8.0. It rebooted, and when the script would usually kick in, an error was displayed instead: xmnt2002 program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK and then it would boot. That frustrated me. I tried again, this time unhiding the partitions using grub before booting. Still, same error. So, partition magic was not going to work. Next I decided to try to go to the Linux installation directly, and use the YaST utility to resize my windows partition. I tried, but that failed as well. YaST gave me the "Failed to resize partition. The Installer will now exit" error each time I tried that. So, the Linux-rout failed as well.
By now I was quite frustrated. I decided to re-install Windows from the disks I had been provided, deleting the windows partition using the installation menu and re-installing it on a smaller portion of the unallocated space. Windows was installed using the same amount of space as the first installation -- It did not allow me to resize it's disk usage like I had planned. So, I lost all the software, but no matter, I reinstalled it all in a few hours, then attempted to resize my partition again...............

On boot up I get a notice that file americ~.dat could not be found. Everything is working ok as far as I can tell but this is busting my chops and annoying the hell out of me. I have run registry cleaners thinking this is a left over from an application I uninstalled but it still shows up. An ideas on how I can track down what is looking for this file?

I was attempting to install Norton System Works 2006, it failed and gave me some instructions to fix the issue which consisted of downloading 3 tools and running them to clean the failed install, and then try the install again. I tried to reboot first (I don't recall if I was instructed to or not!) and now it goes through the motions of starting up...bios screen, Norton Go Back Screen (new), XP loading screen, then I get a screen that says "autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK" and it restarts

I am running Windows XP Homedition. I have two drives inside, the regular C: drive and I have a Slave drive F: with all my photos and music and documents. The problem I'm having is that everytime I restart or reboot my system it say it needs to check F: drive for consistency. It haven't been doing that until now. Then once it goes through that the system comes up. I try to click on an icon like my internet or registry program, nothing comes up, its like a read only file or something. Its not executing the program. THEN all of a sudden I get a blue screen. It says this::"Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacture for driver updates. try changing video adapters. "Check with your hardware vendor for aany BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use SAFE mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advance SStartup options, and then select Safe Mode."

I downloaded some Registry cleaner program and I guess it was a crappy one because it must have deleted a whole bunch of important registry files. I had to reboot my system and got a message saying "ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupted" so in my infinite wisdom and panicked state I ran the XP recovery disks that came with my laptop (see laptop details below). But for some odd reason it just installed another version of Windows XP. Anyways after some sleuthing I used the XP disk to copy over the "ntoskrnl.exe" to my HD and all seemed okay as my original version of XP booted up okay, but then I get a blue XP screen saying "AutoChk.exe file not found- skipping AUTOCHECK" and the system restarts

The cystem continues to cycle trying to boot or just shuts down. When i try booting using the windows XP disk, the same thing happens; as soon as it tries to load windows, it gets stuck in a boot up cycle or shuts down

then flashes a screen too fast to read then reboots. the original system had boot issues after I used partition software to move to a bigger drive. I messes it up more using "r"repair console to replace mbr. xp setup disk doesn't see the system so it doesn't offer the repair option only the install one. If I slave it to another master WD hard drive with xp and assign it a drive letter I can see the the total contents so it's still all there just can't boot in

Autocheck always runs at boot. Only if it detects that the dirty bit has been set on a partition (indicating an abnormal shutdown of the system OR that the file system has detected an inconsistency during normal operation and automatically scheduled chkdsk to run) will it actually run CHKDSK on the indicated partitions. Chkdsk as run by Autocheck does not do as comprehensive a repair as chkdsk /r.PerfectDisk is first in the bootexecute list. When the system boots, here's what happens:- PD's boot time defrag code runs.- It looks to see if it is even supposed to run. If not, it exits.- It checks to see if the dirty bit has been set - if so, it exits to let CHKDSK run.

the latest victim of the autochck not found rebooting cycle. I've been thru the forums looking for a solution. this link
http://www.infocellar.com/winxp/chkdsk-and-autochk.htm
provided some good info however generally the point is being missed. You cannot get into the registry to modify any autochk values.

i recently just got this problem, umm the first thing i started to notice was my startup becoming extreamly slow, at that point i thought there was a problem, so when i finally got through the startup, i move my mouse around and like every few seconds it would skip, so basically you move it and then 3 seconds later it skips so you basically see a lag spike or something. it continues for awhile and then stops like maybe 10 min later. but then starts again everytime i open a program ex: counter strike, Azureus, microsoft word.
