I am trying to get two computers to communicate with each other, one's a laptop (JONI), one's a desktop (LON). They cannot communicate at all, and Have all Client, Services, and Protocols except for Microsoft TCP/IP V6, JONI has TCP/IP V6 but I cannot install it on LON, I get the error message: "Could Not Add The Requested Component. The Error Is: An extended error has occurred."

I have an Athlon 64 3700+ machine I'd like to try it on, and in a nutshell I was wondering if, post-installation, it will still be able to communicate with the other two 32-bit XP machines on my network.

I am running XP and have been for some time with no problems, recently my printer began playing up (saying that it wasn't able to communicate) that problem seemed to go away after a while. Since then my computer has been 'getting stuck' after it prints a document.It would print the first document but then nothing after that, i found that the print spooler was showing that the just printed job was marked in status as being deleted... however it would go away and nothing else would get printed. i played around with active processes and found that I could delete the 'deleting' process and get the printing going again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI went out of town for 2 weeks, came home and my pc is acting really strange. I've been getting tons of pop-ups, to the point my computer freezes and i must restart. Not only that but it randomly reboots itself even when not being used. Also, when i go to delete files now, the file does NOT go into the recycle bin. I looked at the settings and there is no check mark next to the "do not move files into recycle bin". My BF said he had been downloading things so I figured maybe its a virus or something. I ran Nortons... nothing. Ran AVG... nothing. A friend told me it sounded like spyware so he told me to run Adaware & Spybot. Did that, found a ton of stuff. But when i retarted the pc, it wanted to start in "safe mode". I noticed that most of these pop ups are (search miracle ??) Found info that its a trojan, but i dont know. . I dont know what to do, totally computer illiterate.

I am sure that the bios have been affected and attempts to boot from either a floppy or cd get ignored in the loading process and the bios canot find the module to activate the periferal devices ie: keyboard, mouse, usb ports. I have norton anti viru when I turn my computer on it takes forever to start up.I always have to get repair for my Internet connection to work right. The freezing occurs randomly sometimes it occurs just after startup while other times i can play a game for a few hours before it freezes. Ive been in a repair shop a couple times and they havent solved the problem despite replacing the mother board and power supply. They also reformated the computer and still get the freezing problem. However they are giving me their old PC, which I will be using to install Linux on and use as a learning tool for myself.The problem comes in that they would like to use their XP Home license on the new machine. The old machine is a Compaq, and Compaq only supplies rescue disks.not an actual XP disk.Is there anyway for me to get their legally owned copy of XP onto their new machine without them having a store bought XP Home disk? View 14 Replies View RelatedI encrypted a folder with Windows encryption. This was on an old computer and it is now dead; motherboard is fried, hard drives are still fine though. I have a new computer now, with much newer, but similar hardware.I have the old hard drives in my new machine, so I can access all my old files, but I cant get into the encrypted folder, obviously. There isn't anything wrong with the Windows install, it's still there and I'd be able to boot into I if it was on the old hardware, but I'm not.What I want to do is boot into my old XP install on my new hardware to recover these encrypted files. I've tried booting already, but it either bluescreens and restarts before starting windows, or it just restarts without a bluescreen. The hardware is just too different.
I was wondering if theres any way I can sweep my computer after someone else has used it?, does anyone else here do this? , I'm not worried about the other user intentionally installing nasties on my computer, It's just that a lot of other users are very blase about what they download, what sites they visit and what emails they open. I'm thinking of doing a system restore, would this get rid of any nasties or am I just being paranoid?
