I have a wireless home network: 3 XP Home machines with file and printer sharing. A long time ago I bought a x64 license through my school for somewhere around $7. I have an Athlon 64 3700+ machine I'd like to try it on, and in a nutshell I was wondering if, post-installation, it will still be able to communicate with the other two 32-bit XP machines on my network.
View 1 RepliesI have had windows XP Pro installed, updated and running fine until about a week ago. I was away from home for about a week and left the machine plugged into the mains but powered down. When I returned home to boot up, it kept doing things like constantly hanging on parts of the bios POST screen, eventually booting up after thirty or so complete restarts. It finally booted into windows but after the last shutting down, it will now not boot up at all. I have replaced the bios battery and reset the bios several times.

They cannot communicate at all, and Have all Client, Services, and Protocols except for Microsoft TCP/IP V6, JONI has TCP/IP V6 but I cannot install it on LON, I get the error message: "Could Not Add The Requested Component. The Error Is: An extended error has occurred."
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've a computer with Windows XP Pro, which is not connected to the internet. Now, I want to update it in order to be all up-to-date and secured again. So I don't mean by just downloading SP2, but by installing all security patches available ever since!
So I need to download everything first, burn it on CD, and then install the patches on my other computer. No problem. But the problem is: where can I download all those updates?! I've searched all over the net, and all I found was softwarepatch.com; it only contains english updates, and since I've a Dutch version of XP installed, those won't work. Simply changing the urls from xxx-ENU.exe to xxx-NLD.exe doesn't work either, different languages of the same patch seem to be hosted under a whole other url.
In my Network Connections it shows nothing. It is just white space. In my system tray, at the bottom right-hand corner of my screen, it shows no flashing computers. This has been so for around five months, I'm guessing. It never really bothered me until lately, and here is what I have done in order to fix it (to no avail, obviously):- Installed all critical Windows updates
- Ran Ad-Aware entire system scan (it's my only anti-virus program)- Tried to make a new network connection, but according to Windows, I have no network hardware, either- Put my Windows installation CD into my CD drive, went to "Install Optional Windows Components," and installed everything network related, then restarted.
I have 4 usb ports, computer not communicating anything plugged into them
BUT the green light on my memory card reader is on. It was all working before
a recent thunder and lightning storm. How can I reset them to communicate
again? XP pro service pack 2
I am running XP and have been for some time with no problems, recently my printer began playing up (saying that it wasn't able to communicate) that problem seemed to go away after a while. Since then my computer has been 'getting stuck' after it prints a document.It would print the first document but then nothing after that, i found that the print spooler was showing that the just printed job was marked in status as being deleted... however it would go away and nothing else would get printed. i played around with active processes and found that I could delete the 'deleting' process and get the printing going again.

Not only that I couldn't establish a connection through that new wireless adapter I also lost my regular PCI network adapter couldn't connect via the PCI adaptor and couldn't set it's TCP/IP configurations I uninstalled the TCP/IP and when I tried to reinstall I got: "The name is already in use as a service name or service display name".

The installation process went well, however I can't connect to Internet. My network connection shows that I have a connection. I tried to do ipconfig from command menu and did nor get any IP address.
View 14 Replies View Relatedhad virus on system, I tried running as many anti-virus, malware, spyware, trojan programs in Safe Mode to no avail. I came to the conclusion that I should do a fresh XP install (SP2). Everything was fine after re-formatting and installing until I got to the "Installing Network" segment with "32 minutes approx remaining". The first time I waited well over 40 minutes and nothing happened. I restarted and started over with a re-format and the same thing happened.
I've tried everything I can think of:disconnecting the ethernet, removing all my expansion cards, making sure all of the on-board devices were enabled in the BIOS.
Using XP home, HP, 1024 RAM, DSL, with all updates and McAfee virus, I can post on www.nola.com forums for 2 weeks then it knocks me off.At this same time I can post here OK, on AARP and also Genealogy.com.This PC will not post for 3 or 4 days then it works for 3 or 4 weeks.You have tips on why that happens? There is no help files on www.nola.com about logging in and posting.I can log on OK but just not post. I have several USER ID so that is not the issue and I cannot post under any ID when this happens. View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen the comp is first turned on, everything powers up as normal then it stops at the first boot screen prior to the memory test and powers off the monitor. The computer stays on but does nothing.
The system specs are as follows:

The problem is intermittent and sometimes the computer will randomly shut down.
I initially thought this was video card problem so I have swapped out the video card for a known good one with no success.
Next thing I thought was overheating, I checked the system temps in the bios after a good boot and noticed the CPU temp was on 90 degrees Celsius, I thought this was extremely hot so I cleaned the heat sink and fan and the temp has dropped to the figures below:
Motherboard 38 �C (100 �F)
CPU 73 �C (163 �F)
Aux 45 �C (113 �F)
Seagate ST380011A 43 �C (109 �F)
The CPU temp still seems hot, however the system will run for days without a problem then out of the blue fail to start.
I then suspected a power supply problem and still suspect that this may be the culprit.
Once the computer has failed to boot, it will not boot fully again until the PSU power lead has been removed briefly.
If I unplug the power cable momentarily the system boots fine on the next boot, which seems to indicate something is being reset when the power is shut off totally.

+12 V 12.80 V
+5 V Standby 4.89 V

I have also run sea-tools which has detected errors on the hard drive, but I believe the problem is occurring before the system checks the hard drive.
I am receiving no bios beep error codes.
I am leaning toward PSU replacement,
I'm working on a ASUS F5V laptop. The system had some problems, it has to be returned to the manufacturer on an RMA, and they re-installed Windows XP Pro circa December 2007. When I got the machine back it needed many Windows updates. The first was SP3, then there were 41 OS updates, and 9 hardware and other updates. The install process got to #46 of 50, KB951847 (Updated for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5). The screen had not moved for an hour at that point but the same screen remained. I canceled the install, it reported immediately that cancellation was taking place, and then it stopped. No indication it was rolling back the updates.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently had to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition on my machine because I was complacent and did not keep up on my updates. As a result, my machine as riddled with worms, trojans, etc. So, I used a Win 98 boot disk and deleted the partition and installed a fresh XP. I ordered Service Pack 2 and installed that along with Norman Antivirus. However, I still need to get up to speed from SVC Pack2. Any suggestions on where I can find these updates so I can download them?I won't be using my machine as I don't want to risk it. In other words, that page where you go and your machine is scanned for applicable updates won't work because I'll be using someone else's machine. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me exactly where to go and I'll download them onto my jumpdrive.

Now my PC won't recognize the files on my ext. I have been reading support forums for the like, but I have not found a solution.
The Mac did not give me any warning that it was altering the file format or anything like that, but it apparently has.

I have been having a problem with my OS. I recently just reformatted my hard drive, because of the problem I am having, just to have it come back on me.The problem I am having is with my Windows Explorer and Dr Watson PostMortem Debugger. Every 20-30 minutes, I will get the messages (2 of them) for, "Windows Explorer has encountered an error and must close", and, "Dr Watson PostMortem Debugger has encountered an error and must close".Again, this is the reason I reformatted in the first place. I know it's not a virus doing this (At least, I hope it's not, as I just reformatted).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI built a decent computer system for myself a little a year ago. a few weeks ago, I wanted to have to use two monitors with ATI Radeon 9250, so I bought a DVI/VGA adapter. But I couldn't get both monitors working at at the same time. Since I have a brand new ASUS EAX1300HM512 video card, I figured I'd install and that would do the trick. Well that did not work. Then I tried adding both cards on the MOBO, I could not get both monitors working (I'm sure it was user error). Then I removed the EAX1300One, reboot...from that point on the computer kept rebooting after I logon to Windows. I was able to access the computer through safe mode. After several weeks of using my backup pc, I thought I would try to resolve this problem. I removed the MOBO's battery then put it back. Now the computer powers on and posts, I am able to see the bios but after that i just get a black screen with a blinking cursor.

Then NETWORK MAGIC pops-up and says {YOU ARE NOW CONNECTED} then I have to manually turn on IE6 button to go online, almost like the page {the page cannot be displayed} wants to come up first instead of the connection?
