I'm working on a ASUS F5V laptop. The system had some problems, it has to be returned to the manufacturer on an RMA, and they re-installed Windows XP Pro circa December 2007. When I got the machine back it needed many Windows updates. The first was SP3, then there were 41 OS updates, and 9 hardware and other updates. The install process got to #46 of 50, KB951847 (Updated for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5). The screen had not moved for an hour at that point but the same screen remained. I canceled the install, it reported immediately that cancellation was taking place, and then it stopped. No indication it was rolling back the updates.
I recently had to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition on my machine because I was complacent and did not keep up on my updates. As a result, my machine as riddled with worms, trojans, etc. So, I used a Win 98 boot disk and deleted the partition and installed a fresh XP. I ordered Service Pack 2 and installed that along with Norman Antivirus. However, I still need to get up to speed from SVC Pack2. Any suggestions on where I can find these updates so I can download them?I won't be using my machine as I don't want to risk it. In other words, that page where you go and your machine is scanned for applicable updates won't work because I'll be using someone else's machine. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me exactly where to go and I'll download them onto my jumpdrive.
Once I've downloaded the updates windows fails to install them. I've even tried one at a time and still nothing. I'm logged in as a domain admin figuring it was permissions related however it still fails to apply the updates.
I can't seem to get all the critical updates to install on my Windows 2000 Pro machine. Installation always fails from the Windowsupdate site and when installing them separately, they say I don't have administration rights (I AM the administrator!)
when I use the web based reader,I cannot open the text box to post a new question, and yet I can open the text box to post an answer to a post. when i select new question my screen flashes and nothing happens.Running xp pro with sp2.
I am planning to reformat my desktop this weekend. I currently have Windows ME,upgraded to Windows XP Home. I would like to buy the complete Windows XP Home (with SP2) so I can have a nice clean (and hopefully easy!) reformatting experience. Am I allowed to sell my old Windows XP Home "Upgrade" software to else on Ebay I have all the cumentation and serial numbers. Is there anything else I need to provide to a potential buyer It would be nice to recoup some of the cost of my new Window
I cannot seem to install SP2. Every time I try, it freezes up somewhere in the middle. I just tried last night, and it never made it past the first message. Something like "Initializing installation". It doesn't sound like the hard drive is doing anything. When I try to cancel the install, it will then freeze on the "Cancelling Installation" message. The only way out is to "End Task". The furthest I got was one time when it seemed to finish installing, but when it rebooted, my system was at 640 x 480 resolution, and still at SP1! I then ran a System Restore and got back to where I originally was, minus a bunch of security patches, even though the point I restored should have already had those patches
Notes:
-When trying to install, I let it run OVERNIGHT, so it has plenty of time to work.)
-System is clean of Spyware, Viruses, etc.
-System performance is pretty good, although I do get an occasional blue screen, hence the reason I'm finally trying to update.
Does anyone have any idea how to troubleshoot this?
I've been trying to do a XP Home Edition repair install for a very long time now. I've restarted it a lot of times but in the "Installing Windows" section when it says setup will approximately complete in 25 mintues it starts "copying files", I get this "copy error" "Setup cannot copy the file licwmi.dl_.Ensure that the disk labeled 'Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 CD' is in the drive section below, or provide the location where the file can be found."
I recieved a virus and did a complete re-install of windows xp. Unfortunately I did not have a anti-virus program. I unwisely surfed the web and seemed to have contracted another virus. Trend-micro's trial program doesn't seem to be able to locate the virus. I also loaded spybot, ad-aware, and XoftSpySE, and they say I have many problems, but can't seem to fix them every time I run these programs
OK, I downloaded Diskkeeper premium the other night and it ran through my disk and defragged. Later, the system (running slow) so I uninstalled it. Still ran terrible. Did a system restore and upon booting, XP couldn't find ntoskrnl.exe. I never could get xp back up and going into the recovery console from the XP setup disk showed the windows folder was empty. I'm guessing the system restore wiped it and didn't complete reloading the contents which is why it was empty. I pulled the drive and hooked it up to another system as a second drive and was able to get some vital data files but most that
I needed were corrupt and wouldn't copy.i put the drive back in the machine it was in, started a fresh install of XP sp2 and it loads all files and when it starts windows to do the install, it hangs at 33 minutes remaining. Changed the drive and started with another good drive. Same thing. Got another XP sp2 disk in case some files were corrupt on the original although I had used it many times prior with no problem. Still the same thing. Gets to 33 minutes remaining on the install and just never gets any farther
Built recording studio computer. Mobo Intel DP35 DP, Intel Core2, 4 GB ram,Geforce video card, M-Audio Delta sound card, Windows Xp home w/SP2 Had troubles with screen going blank every 15 minutes. Replaced screen, and video card and finally removed hard drive and formatted it to remove everything including OS. Reinstalled HD and attempted clean install of WinXp Cd w/SP2 In the middle of install I get error setup can not copy the file PLUGIN.OCX how I can complete install of WinXP
Started the pc w/the XP Home SP2 cd in, and followed prompts to do a repair install. All was going well. Got to the point of it needing to restart the computer. After the Windows logo appeared, received STOP error 7E, with no driver mentioned. (1st variable if needed is 0x0000006). Turned machine off, restarted. Same thing. Tried again, this time trying Safe Mode. I get the message "Setup cannot continue in Safe Mode, Click OK to restart".
Having a problem with the install of Service Pack 3. The update keeps picking it up but halfway through the install a popup appears to say " an additional download is needed to complete the installation.Install service pack 3 again " . Well I have installed 6 times now and the same happens every time, it doesn't say what the additional download is or where to get it from. I'm running XP which has been taking forever to start up up recently ( about 15 mins ) don't know if it's related or not?
I was using Latitude D600 and Latitude D620. After completeing a Repair install of Windows XP, Windows update will not install. I didn't get any error messages. It downloads all of the updates but fails to install.
The last windows update that I can see is KB 905474 and was downloaded by my automatic updates.I can see it when going to windows updates/view history. Trouble is, I cannot see it in my add/remove list. does auto updates only download security updates and I assume I dont have to do anything.
I try go receive ANY NEW updates, it says download failed, i'm still on SP1, and i'm kinda worried now because windows won't let me run ANYTHING. double click firefox :application failed to initialize properly. MS word:same thing, winamp:same thing, even notepad. I cannot run anything on it, after i reboot. i am able to go start>run>appropriate program here. before everything boots up officially, but after three minutes and my desktop comes on. bam, nothing works. is this related to my updates
I have a legit copy of windows xp professional that I obtained through school. When the update icon appears and I try to install the updates it comes back giving a least of updates it could not install. When I go to the microsoft update page it first wants to download the Genuine Windows Validation install, however, it does so unsuccessfully. I have ran the windows diagnostic which came back and said my copy of windows is genuine need updates.
I've recently updated SP2 to the third one and then again after i ran Windows Update(R!) instantly, ok all updates downloaded properly(thanks god!) but then there lies the problem, not one of these 16 updates would install, I even downloaded IE7 and WMP 11 manually hoping it would change sth in updates and they'd install(this one works in many occasions if you run xp!) Well i haven't yet dared to clear my cache and download the updates again for two reasons!: 1- i have a 128 connection so i should leave pc turned on for another whole night 2- i'm somehow sure it wouldn't work and the problem lies somewhere beneath the hidden layers of windows engineering.
Does anyone know why these windows updates won't install. I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 in Italian. I know the names are in Italian but the numbers should be the same.
I am using a Windows XP Professional computer with service pack 3.When the update icon (yellow diamond) appeared in my systray I tried to install the following three updates:
1) Microsoft.Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP (KB974417)
2) Microsoft.Net Framework 3.5 SP1 and >net Framework 2.0 Security Update for Windows 2000. Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB979909)
3) Microsoft.Net Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982168)
Although the updates completed, apparently they were not installed properly because the yellow update diamond icon repeatedly keeps appearing in my systray. In Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs, only the first two updates (1) and 2) above appear in that list. From that Add/Remove Programs list, I tried uninstalling the first update (KB974417) and then manually installing it. This did not help. That file still keeps reappearing after I reboot the computer and then click on the yellow update diamond icon in my systray.
I checked the web for advice on how to solve this problem. All I could find were solutions that either didn't work or were complicated and beyond my ability to understand them.To avoid having to wait for the updates to attempt to install each time I turn off my computer, I turned off the Automatic Updates feature. Of course I would like to be able to turn this feature back on if I can solve this problem. What could be causing this problem of the yellow, update icon repeatedly reappearing in my systray after the updates apparently were installed? Is there a fairly straightforward way of correcting this problem?
every time i switch pc on it says downloading updates. then when downloaded i try to install them 77 of them every time. it says they cannot be installed. doing my head in. only been since went from internet explorer 6 to 7
My neighbor has two Dell laptops running XP Home. Someone installed Firefox and removed MSIE from both. They are on a dial-up ISP.How can I download the Windows update files on my computer so that I can put them on a flash drive to update their computers. I tried Google,
I can not download or install updates on XP I have contacted Micro soft also did all the things here and more nothing works.get error when trying each update when google one at a time also. error says Set up could not verify the integrity of file update inf. Make sure cyroptographic service is running on this computer it is running when I check. Have done several steps different times from Microsoft support team nothing has done a thing.
I presently have 4 computers 2 old and in the process of being replaced and 2 new, the replacements. For some time now, I have noticed that updates were failing to install on one of the old computers. I fiddled with it a bit but wasn't too concerned as I had plans to replace it. I now have 2 newer computers that have been set up and one of them, after installing a number of updates, repeatedly tries to update XP then gives me a message that.
I'm a college student with a Macbook Pro running Boot Camp and running WinXP natively. Just yesterday, I got an error right in one of my classes saying I had a corrupt system file and said to reinstall or repair. So, I pop in the WinXP cd and repair Windows and go through the whole process of fixing Windows. Once I get through it all, I go to Microsoft Update just to find out I have a ton of updates to install. (91!) I had to install Installer 3.0 and it installed successfully and I restarted. I go to install the rest of the updates and Microsoft update downloads all the updates and when it goes to update....they ALL fail. Every last one fails. All 91! I don't understand what is going on.I heard somewhere that you need to uninstall all .NET things so I did that. Still didn't work.Someone said to stop AutoUpdate and clean out the SoftwareDistribution folder and start up AutoUpdate again. Still didn't work.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Installer 3.0, thinking it might be the problem. Uninstall is fine, but when I go to download and install, IT TOO FAILS TO INSTALL So, now I'm 92 updates down.I was told to go check my update history on the Windows Update website. It has no record of any failed updates. I tried multiple times to install with failed attempts and the history has no record of me failing to install anything. So, that basically means I have no error code to find through that. Can anyone please help me? I need my laptop for school for engineering stuff because they don't make the programs for Mac. Thanks everyone.
I recently visited Microsoft Windows Updates and was horrified to discover that a total of 394 Windows Updates had failed to install. I clicked on 'Find Solutions' and followed the instructions, which were, click 'Start', click 'Run', type 'services.msc.' then make sure Background Intelligent Transfer Service is on Automatic (not manual) and is 'started'. I did this and tried to re-install the failed updates. This worked, but only for the 5 most recent updates (otherwise there would have been 399 failed updates). How do I go about installing ALL of the failed updates?
While I was manually checking my updates, I checked on the "Review Your Update History". I discovered that all 6 of the June 14 updates showed "FAILED" I tried checking for updates again, with the same results. Has anyone else experienced this, and how do I get the updates to install?
