Once I've downloaded the updates windows fails to install them. I've even tried one at a time and still nothing. I'm logged in as a domain admin figuring it was permissions related however it still fails to apply the updates.
I can't seem to get all the critical updates to install on my Windows 2000 Pro machine. Installation always fails from the Windowsupdate site and when installing them separately, they say I don't have administration rights (I AM the administrator!)
I'm working on a ASUS F5V laptop. The system had some problems, it has to be returned to the manufacturer on an RMA, and they re-installed Windows XP Pro circa December 2007. When I got the machine back it needed many Windows updates. The first was SP3, then there were 41 OS updates, and 9 hardware and other updates. The install process got to #46 of 50, KB951847 (Updated for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5). The screen had not moved for an hour at that point but the same screen remained. I canceled the install, it reported immediately that cancellation was taking place, and then it stopped. No indication it was rolling back the updates.
I've been trying to do a XP Home Edition repair install for a very long time now. I've restarted it a lot of times but in the "Installing Windows" section when it says setup will approximately complete in 25 mintues it starts "copying files", I get this "copy error" "Setup cannot copy the file licwmi.dl_.Ensure that the disk labeled 'Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 CD' is in the drive section below, or provide the location where the file can be found."
I tried to install USB Wireless network adapter to my XP system(OFFICECONNECT WIRELESS 11g USB ADAPTER). Not only that I couldn't establish a connection through that new wireless adapter I also lost my regular PCI network adapter couldn't connect via the PCI adaptor and couldn't set it's TCP/IP configurations I uninstalled the TCP/IP and when I tried to reinstall I got: "The name is already in use as a service name or service display name".
windows was unable to complete the disk check from My Computer. What cause this and how can I fix it? Apparently, this is the reason I am unable to perform a defrag.I ran a Chkdsk.exe and got the following msg: The type of the file system is NTFS. Cannot lock current drive.Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? y
I recently installed Windows XP professional on a new hard drive on Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. The OS installed fine but now I cannot get onto internet. I have ATT/Yahoo DSL. My laptop has integrated wireless adapter. When I look under device manager -> network adapters, I only see the following listed: 1) 1394 Net Adapter 2) Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) 3) Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) I don't believe any of the above are for internet. On my other laptop (Dell Latitude D610), under network adapters, I do see: 1) Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller 2) Cisco Systems SSL VPN Adapter 3) Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection Using Latitude D610 laptop, I am able to connect to the internet wireless. What do I need to do to my Inspiron 6000 to enable it to connect to the internet wireless? Under control panel -> network connections, I only see 1394 connection and Bluetooth Network Connection. No LAN 2, LAN 3, Wireless connection, etc.
When I run the install Windows updates, the updates do not install, and I receive the following message (not verbatim, but close):"Some updates were unable to be installed..."This problem "came out of no where" and there has been no suspicious activity prior to it starting other than an IE7 redirect rootkit that NeonFx helped me remove (if I recall correctly an infection of agp440).

The last windows update that I can see is KB 905474 and was downloaded by my automatic updates.I can see it when going to windows updates/view history. Trouble is, I cannot see it in my add/remove list. does auto updates only download security updates and I assume I dont have to do anything.
I am unable to install Windows XPro SP2 updates. Windows Installer 3.1 will not install.Error message reads Extraction Failed: The system cannot find the file specified.
Should be receiving a new Intel core 2 cpu, new ram and new board tomorrow. Was planning on doing a clean windows install once i have put them into my computer. I'm pretty certain my Norton ghost image will be useless now as it was for old cpu and motherboard. It had sp2 and some other updates. But when i do a clean install i won't be able to get any updates from Microsoft because my xp is not genuine and they have this new genuine key check thing that stops updates. Is this gonna be a problem for my new setup. If it is i'm gonna have to make do 4 a bit. But will get a genuine xp if it is necessary? normally have zone alarm which i think fixes some security issues, but i just wanna know if the hardware will work correctly, say only having one core working.
Last night my PC said it was installing'needed' updates, when it go t the point it was going to reboot, it hung up. After quite awhile I manually re-booted it, and now it only gets to the first two lines in the boot sequence and hangs again. F9 for express recovery and other options do nothing. BTW It doesn't recognize my floppy or CD ROM so booting from CD it not an option. I do have a full install CD of XP Pro though.
i went on the windows update website, i guess launched a new update software , so i waited for it to install , then it gave the choice between cutom updates or express , so i clicked on one of them.there is a bar that comes up with green squares going thru it , and that just keeps on going forever, when i try to stop it, it would freeze the whole computer and i'll have to restart. i know it's nothing to do with the security setting in our netwrok here, because i can get windows updates on other computers on the LAN. can this be a spyware problem if so, how can i resolve. i never encountered a problem like this before.
Can any one please help. At the moment I am unable to download Windows update.I get the message, The Website has encountered a problem an cannot display the page you are trying to view
I am trying to update windows from the microsoft site but it just dose not seem to be working right. The site will search my pc and comes up with 80 updates required. It will download them but when it trys to install it fails. There is no error code, just fail.
I have been having this issue for quite some time now, haven't been able to install any updates. Its getting rather annoying. Heres a link to what i see everytime i try to install something via windows update.Theres the whole list but it doesn't matter, no matter what i try to install from Windows update, it wont install
My mum has windows xp, she recently downloaded the updates which included IE7 which she doesn't want. Now she has the yellow install updates shield on her task bar, to install IE7. As she doesn't want it, how can she get rid of the shield reminder on the task bar?
I am having trouble viewing power point slide shows people send me via email.I recently did my critical and security updates and since doing that it hasn't worked to view these files..they worked before the updates. When I try to open a .pps file I get this message:This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel.
I know that this is a lot to ask in one thread but they all do relate (I think ) I spotted a program listed in program fills that I have never seen before: Authentium. It had a file listed in it as: AuthFw.exe. When I Googled that it led me to a link to Tech Support Guy were member LOgic posted the following post: "As of late My computer has begun to lock up for no apparent reason. What happens is the following. When i go to click on any program none of them respond. I cant alt ctrl delete cause that window doesnt come up. I then click on the start menu and all the icons for the window update and microsoft update and such are not there as if the it doesnt recognize what program to read them with. I then proceed to restart my computer And The old menu pops up. As in not the 3 big red buttons that confirm log out, turn off and restart but a grey box that gives me the same options plus asking me if i want it to hibernate or stand by. Then when the computer is turning of normally it gives a big blue screen saying " windows is shutting down" But what happened when this computer locks up is that a logo of home edition appears in a small grey box and tells me its shutting down. Is my computer going into some kind of safe mode on its own? Every time i leave the computer own on its own?If someone can please help me with this problem it would be great.
I was in shock because it repeated the problems that I have been having and after many attempts have failed to solve. Let me add that I have as LOgic started using a different sound card. actually I removed SoundBlaster and started using the onboard audio on the motherboard (ECS 848P-A) which has Realtek AC97 Audio. I have updated the drivers for this and searched everywhere I can think of to see if this is the problem. LOgic's problem was apparently solved when he went to windows update and updated a driver. My problem is that often when I go to windows update it will down load updates but fail to install them. When this happens as it did just tonight, it takes me days to get support from Microsoft to help me resolve this issue. I have reached a point that MS is a dirty word that I try not to say anymore.
i cant seem to install the Windows Genuine Advantage.will auto updates still download security and essential updates etc.i am not interested in other windows software and extras
I found a BIOS update for my system, but I don't know how to install it. It is a .bin file (ak31s20p.bin to be exact). I was told to make a bootable floppy and do it that way, but the instructions that were given, are for .exe and .rom files. Does anyone have any idea on how I can install this file?
What is the above relate to with Windows Update? What are they trying to validate? The OS? All of MS programs on your PC? What else? And finally, what is the recommendation ? Will Windows Update cease to operate without allowing validation?
The computer uses XP home and is set for automatic updates.Every time I switch off it says it is installing update 1 of 1 even if I have not been connected to the net. When I tried using manual update I was told that the installation of <Windows Installer 3.1> had failed. Is the computer trying to install this same thing every time?If it is how do I get it to install properly or remove it from the list of programs ready to be installed?I think that when I installed the drivers for the motherboard this installer, or an earlier version, was installed by the Intel download.
Could someone please review my HJT log. I am unable to download microsoft windows updates. This started about 2 weeks ago. Now the system is moving slow. I scanned using, Spywareblaster, Ad-Aware, Bazooka, and Spybot they found nothing.
To start, when I try to play an .avi file, real player and windows media player both encounter a fatal error. Thinking there may have been a windows update I went to update.microsoft.com to get updates. I was able to download all of the updates, but I could not install any of them. I tried to install them via express and custom updates on the website, via automatic updates, and virtually every other method I could think of. After researching the problem I came across similar problems with an array of solutions, including trying in safe mode, running sfc /scannow, uninstalling and reinstalling .net, shutting off and turning back on both automatic updates and cryptographic services, changing .dll files (lccwiz & pidgen), renaming the Software Distribution folder, downloading one update at a time, and other things that I can't even begin to think of at this moment, obviously with no success, as well as running SpyBot, AdAware, and Norton.
I can't get Updates to XP SP2 and in the process of trying to do so, I'm instructed to reboot, continuing to press F8, and get into "Safe Mode". When I do that, I'm not given an option to get into Safe Mode but am given an option on which of three devices to boot. How can I get to Safe Mode?
