System Lock Ups / Crashes And Unable To Install Updates

I know that this is a lot to ask in one thread but they all do relate (I think ) I spotted a program listed in program fills that I have never seen before: Authentium. It had a file listed in it as: AuthFw.exe. When I Googled that it led me to a link to Tech Support Guy were member LOgic posted the following post: "As of late My computer has begun to lock up for no apparent reason. What happens is the following. When i go to click on any program none of them respond. I cant alt ctrl delete cause that window doesnt come up. I then click on the start menu and all the icons for the window update and microsoft update and such are not there as if the it doesnt recognize what program to read them with. I then proceed to restart my computer And The old menu pops up. As in not the 3 big red buttons that confirm log out, turn off and restart but a grey box that gives me the same options plus asking me if i want it to hibernate or stand by. Then when the computer is turning of normally it gives a big blue screen saying " windows is shutting down" But what happened when this computer locks up is that a logo of home edition appears in a small grey box and tells me its shutting down. Is my computer going into some kind of safe mode on its own? Every time i leave the computer own on its own?If someone can please help me with this problem it would be great.
I was in shock because it repeated the problems that I have been having and after many attempts have failed to solve. Let me add that I have as LOgic started using a different sound card. actually I removed SoundBlaster and started using the onboard audio on the motherboard (ECS 848P-A) which has Realtek AC97 Audio. I have updated the drivers for this and searched everywhere I can think of to see if this is the problem. LOgic's problem was apparently solved when he went to windows update and updated a driver. My problem is that often when I go to windows update it will down load updates but fail to install them. When this happens as it did just tonight, it takes me days to get support from Microsoft to help me resolve this issue. I have reached a point that MS is a dirty word that I try not to say anymore.
I found a BIOS update for my system, but I don't know how to install it. It is a .bin file (ak31s20p.bin to be exact). I was told to make a bootable floppy and do it that way, but the instructions that were given, are for .exe and .rom files. Does anyone have any idea on how I can install this file?
I can't get Updates to XP SP2 and in the process of trying to do so, I'm instructed to reboot, continuing to press F8, and get into "Safe Mode". When I do that, I'm not given an option to get into Safe Mode but am given an option on which of three devices to boot.How can I get to Safe Mode?
Im having a Lenovo laptop with the Windows XP OS installed in it.Firstly, Im unable to lock the system i.e if I try Control + Alt + Delete, the cursor automatically goes to the top left corner & I get the small window for closing the screen.Secondly, the Omnipass tool of finger printing was also installed in the system.Now, since my brother had got it for me, He has his finger printing to be recognized.Now, if I want my finger to be recognised, howw do I do it so that I do not need to depend on him?
I am unable to install Windows XPro SP2 updates. Windows Installer 3.1 will not install.Error message reads Extraction Failed: The system cannot find the file specified.
I am trying to update windows from the microsoft site but it just dose not seem to be working right.The site will search my pc and comes up with 80 updates required. It will download them but when it trys to install it fails. There is no error code, just fail.
My mum has windows xp, she recently downloaded the updates which included IE7 which she doesn't want. Now she has the yellow install updates shield on her task bar, to install IE7. As she doesn't want it, how can she get rid of the shield reminder on the task bar?
i cant seem to install the Windows Genuine Advantage.will auto updates still download security and essential updates etc.i am not interested in other windows software and extras
I was playing a game normally... After playing for a LONG time, the game briefly paused and I saw some visual artifacts, textures were all messed up etc. But I loaded a savegame and it worked fine after that. (I admit it, I had tried overclocking my GPU but that was over three weeks ago and I reset the settings back to normal.) Then, after about an hour, I used alt+tab to check out a walkthrough, then alt+tabbed back and it took much longer than normal to get back into the game...
On reinstalling my Windows XP x86 and using Windows Update to get everything back uptodate to the present day. I am having serious problems getting my sound drivers to install. I have tried everything under the sun, also tried a few things which i found while roaming the internet (Mainly google searches for the problem).
What do I have to do to get rid of windows error code 0X80200010 ? My automatic updates worked fine. Windows update tries to give me 10 updates now, and thy download okay but do not install successfully. I'm using AVAST! antivirus which seems to work very well. I'm also using Mozilla Threatfire and PCTOOLS firewall. In a few more days, I will be 3 months behind on my security updates.
using do a system recovery on xo home and when I go to Windowsupdates, it says I have a problem in updating and give me 3 options 1/ find answer from Response centre, from newsgroup and cal MS. Any specific reason why when I just did a system recovery and install my NAV (updated). I first noticed my computer slowing down dramatically. Then I noticed that my windows updates were not installing. Spent two weeks with windows update helpers and could not get them to install. Kept getting the message "Insufficiet system resources exist to complete the request". I have tried to clean up my computer, deleting temp files, histories, unused programs and they still will not load. On some of the attempts to delete old programs I do not use, I would get the same message and the program would not delete. Even bought System Mechanic 8.5 tried to install it and it won't install. Tried to install everything in safe mode, but they will not install
I am on a fresh clean install of Windows XP and Windows has already updated five times now. Windows is set for automatically download recommended updates and install them. I turned on my computer tonight and it downloading updates again for a total of six times now, when will it stop? I am starting to worrie here.
I am having trouble viewing power point slide shows people send me via email.I recently did my critical and security updates and since doing that it hasn't worked to view these files..they worked before the updates. Hp Desktop T3140, XP Home Ed, P4 3.06MHz,1GB Ram XP updates download ok, no problem with WGA but none of them will install. Why should a computer reset sometimes when the Num Lock or Caps Lock key is pressed? I have tried turning Num Lock off in the Bios to see if that would help. I just got a brand new mp3-player Well, Ive fixed it up and re-installed the drivers and WindowsXP keeps telling me that the device is ok and drivers are correct, but I can't see the player from anywhere, not even from the program included on a disc.Why is this? What should I do? Really want this to work
Is it possible to alter the default time out setting for system lock, I would like more control over my system and tbe system lock while useful does get in the way sligtly, mainly when downloading large files. I have tried help and support center and it's not much use, and I am not sure exactly what to type in, system lock just seems to explain what it does.
Windows XP pro and now every 5mins or so the system will just lock up and I can not do anything. I dont have much running when it happened and its only started happening these last couple of days. Its not overheating either. Its strange thou, when the computer locks up it seems like it hasn't, like msn will keep poping up with people and winamp still plays music, I just can't do anything.
I've had XP installed 9 months and working great. Yesterday while looking at EBAY, the screen went black, and the computer locked up.Thru trials, I ended up reformating the HD and starting from scratch. XP starts the installation and at 37 minutes left to install, everything freezes. I have to restart and XP installation begins again at about 47 minutes left to install, then at 37 minutes left to finish, the system locks again, and again, again, and again, at 37 minutes to finish.
I have 65 Computers need to format and install new window for the deployment this weekend. But unfortunately, 3 of these computers cant format and install new windows using installation cd. It can detect and boot from cd but when I hit any key botton to boot from cd after a minute the installation screen turn black then stop installation but the machine is still up.
I have an old dell that had windows ME on it (yuck) About 3 years ago, I upgraded to XP and installed service pack 2. Since then I have set up 2 laptops, broadband and a wireless network. But the old dell in the office (the main one that the high speed modem and linksys is plugged into) needs to have the operating system re-installed again. It has reached its half life...a nuisance, a pain, unbearable, unusable! When I tried to re-install it wouldnt let me because the version on the computer is a newer version then the one on the disk.
