using do a system recovery on xo home and when I go to Windowsupdates, it says I have a problem in updating and give me 3 options 1/ find answer from Response centre, from newsgroup and cal MS. Any specific reason why when I just did a system recovery and install my NAV (updated). For some reason, when I was updatring I gpt infected by sasser but I got it fix by applying patch 835732 and run stinger.
View 3 RepliesHad problems with virus, couldnt update Virus or Malware Protection. I did full shred System Recovery from partition ( HP- A1130N -Windows Media Edition- Version 2002 Service Pack 2. Dowloaded AVG Virus and ran scan, all OK.Went to MS Dowload center and downloaded and installed 87updates to include IE8,started computer, all OK. Then updater said needed to download SVC Pack 3- took a loooooooooooooong time. THEN COMPUTER WOULDNT START- tried the two options it gave me but no go back to same black screen with boot options-- regualar- last working point- safe mode etc. no go.
At this point I did a full System Recovery again and downloaded virus protection again.
i just performed a complete system recovery. started the computer, installed windows xp sp2 and sp3, went to the microsoft download center to get my updates and also got all my extras like, java, flash player, shockwave and direct x among many other updates. i also scan my computer with secunia just to make sure i had everything installed on my pc. i started noticing that my computer was working kinda slow.

Spent two weeks with windows update helpers and could not get them to install. Kept getting the message "Insufficiet system resources exist to complete the request". I was reading through this networking textbook about operating systems and I just found out that a computer can have more than one operating system. I have Windows XP installed through the Data Drivers Recovery CD and that's all I got related to my computer OS WINXP. If I wanted to install Windows XP to another computer that had Windows Vista, with that CD, is it possible, even though it says Data Drivers Recovery CD? Or do I need the actual Installation of WINDOWS XP (and other OS'S?).

View 14 Replies View RelatedI know that this is a lot to ask in one thread but they all do relate (I think ) I spotted a program listed in program fills that I have never seen before: Authentium. It had a file listed in it as: AuthFw.exe. When I Googled that it led me to a link to Tech Support Guy were member LOgic posted the following post: "As of late My computer has begun to lock up for no apparent reason. What happens is the following. When i go to click on any program none of them respond. I cant alt ctrl delete cause that window doesnt come up. I then click on the start menu and all the icons for the window update and microsoft update and such are not there as if the it doesnt recognize what program to read them with. I then proceed to restart my computer And The old menu pops up. As in not the 3 big red buttons that confirm log out, turn off and restart but a grey box that gives me the same options plus asking me if i want it to hibernate or stand by. Then when the computer is turning of normally it gives a big blue screen saying " windows is shutting down" But what happened when this computer locks up is that a logo of home edition appears in a small grey box and tells me its shutting down. Is my computer going into some kind of safe mode on its own? Every time i leave the computer own on its own?If someone can please help me with this problem it would be great.
I was in shock because it repeated the problems that I have been having and after many attempts have failed to solve. Let me add that I have as LOgic started using a different sound card. actually I removed SoundBlaster and started using the onboard audio on the motherboard (ECS 848P-A) which has Realtek AC97 Audio. I have updated the drivers for this and searched everywhere I can think of to see if this is the problem. LOgic's problem was apparently solved when he went to windows update and updated a driver. My problem is that often when I go to windows update it will down load updates but fail to install them. When this happens as it did just tonight, it takes me days to get support from Microsoft to help me resolve this issue. I have reached a point that MS is a dirty word that I try not to say anymore.

When I hit F10 upon startup in order to access the system recovery, nothing happens- it boots as it would regularly. I was able to boot up using the CD, and am now in the System Recovery console. Can I install SP2 from that CD or do I have to install the OEM CD first? Second, the PC had an ATA 100 EIDE hdd and I have a new ATA HDD but bigger. Do I have to do something with BIOS after installing the new HDD? The old hdd was 60g and new one is 160g.

MS word:same thing, winamp:same thing, even notepad. When I go to the microsoft update page it first wants to download the Genuine Windows Validation install, however, it does so unsuccessfully. 1) Microsoft.Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP (KB974417)
2) Microsoft.Net Framework 3.5 SP1 and >net Framework 2.0 Security Update for Windows 2000. Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB979909)
3) Microsoft.Net Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB982168)
Although the updates completed, apparently they were not installed properly because the yellow update diamond icon repeatedly keeps appearing in my systray.In Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs, only the first two updates (1) and 2) above appear in that list.From that Add/Remove Programs list, I tried uninstalling the first update (KB974417) and then manually installing it. This did not help. That file still keeps reappearing after I reboot the computer and then click on the yellow update diamond icon in my systray.
I checked the web for advice on how to solve this problem. All I could find were solutions that either didn't work or were complicated and beyond my ability to understand them.To avoid having to wait for the updates to attempt to install each time I turn off my computer, I turned off the Automatic Updates feature. Of course I would like to be able to turn this feature back on if I can solve this problem. What could be causing this problem of the yellow, update icon repeatedly reappearing in my systray after the updates apparently were installed?Is there a fairly straightforward way of correcting this problem?
