Could someone please review my HJT log. I am unable to download microsoft windows updates. This started about 2 weeks ago. Now the system is moving slow. I scanned using, Spywareblaster, Ad-Aware, Bazooka, and Spybot they found nothing.

Recently installed StyleXP and applied one of those Vista Themes which changed the start menu and my desktop icons, however my pc started moving sluggish so I uninstalled it.
Everything went back to its original state except for my internet explorer 7 icon which remained as the icon from the theme (internet explorer 6 icon).
I tried uninstalling the reinstalling but this did not work
Should be receiving a new Intel core 2 cpu, new ram and new board tomorrow.Was planning on doing a clean windows install once i have put them into my computer. I'm pretty certain my Norton ghost image will be useless now as it was for old cpu and motherboard. It had sp2 and some other updates. But when i do a clean install i won't be able to get any updates from Microsoft because my xp is not genuine and they have this new genuine key check thing that stops updates. Is this gonna be a problem for my new setup. If it is i'm gonna have to make do 4 a bit. But will get a genuine xp if it is necessary? normally have zone alarm which i think fixes some security issues, but i just wanna know if the hardware will work correctly,say only having one core working.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis has happened on two computers: my wife's and my parents'. Automatic updating is turned on. My wife's computer suddenly lost Internet service upon reboot. I checked everything. She had access to the Linksys router, the network properties showed she was connected to the Internet and, most importantly, I, on another computer, was connected (my auto updates was turned off). I fixed the problem by going to the Device Manager, uninstalling the network card and then scanning for hardware changes. Bing! Working again.Two days later I'm at my parents' house. I turned on their computer, updates were installed and the system restarted. Again, no Internet service despite all apparent "go" connections. Uninstalled the network card, rebooted and it worked again.
I keep my updates off because NetFramework 2 wreaks havoc with a library program I have, so no NetFramework at all. And I've had no problems. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems? My wife had spent more than an hour on the phone with a tech support guy at Linksys and he had her setting up her notebook computer and changing its settings. When I got home, she was right in the middle of working with a computer that wasn't the problem. I guess this guy was paid by the hour because he was in no hurry to wrap everything up. But he told my wife that he works for several companies in tech support (real surprise there) and that MS "updates" create numerous "issues" I think they call them now.
i cant download anything from Windows Microsoft website, however i get "Updates" regularly.
I'm using IE when i go to the sites, but the ActiveX? Script does not happen ,and i cannot use the Genuine Windows thing.
I Recieved my copy from windows through Dell, and it worked at first fine, but then it just.. stopped. I Had this issue on my previous computer
What is the above relate to with Windows Update? What are they trying to validate? The OS? All of MS programs on your PC? What else? And finally, what is the recommendation ? Will Windows Update cease to operate without allowing validation?

have run defrag, and disk cleanup (defrag took over 8 hours to complete used to run Mcafee AV pro, Firewall and Spamkiller, have removed all mcafee products.
recently i have noticed my computer has started to slow down, when i start the comp the system tray items used to apear immediately but now is soo slow.windows firewall is off..i dont know if the slowness is a result of installing Music Match? but the computer has surely become slower on startup.i did however have some spyware on my comp which i removed, this was a result of installing a trial version of ZoneAlarm 6.5 WHICH IS SOOO UNSTABLE...
View 14 Replies View RelatedI think I was on thiese forums a year or so ago with the same problem, and the solution worked. You guys had me run a scan and post a log report of all the processes and such that were slowing down the computer. The last few days the fan has been kicking on a lot, and I'll wake up in the morning occasionally and the computer will be locked up. Not sure if it's something I downloaded or something that just made its way to my computer. What's the program to run the scan? I'll post the log after I get the link.

My windows XP is updated and my processer is brand new Celeron D. I have checked my MSCONFIG start up options and only a few programs are checked. I cannot figure out what is wrong. I click on a link nothing happens for 2-3 seconds or 2. I type address into my web browser, and letters don't show up for 2-3 seconds. Anyone know what's wrong? Possibly hard drive going to die?

However.this is not ideal when it comes to WIndows Updates and Anti-Virus Updates and the dial-up is labourourly slow(.as you all know!!).I am way behind in the updates and would take for-ever to catch up.I have Broadband at home on my own PC and am wondering can I just unplug my Work PC and plug it in at home and down load the Updates overnight via the Broadband. I can't seem to get any updates to download. I have tried both manual and auto update. I have tried checking different settings plus shut down my anti- virus and firewall and still nothing! I checked around microsoft's site and didn't find anything either. When I try to download ( even just one update at a time) I get the update file name failed.

I have disable it and it did not help. i have been on the phone with microsoft personnel for about 5 hours and they could not get it to download. i can download everything else that i want except microsoft updates. when they connect me to microsoft i thank they sent me to banladesh. i have a hard time trying to understand them but i got through some how, is there any thing that i can do to correct this problem , I tried to restore, but it would not after microsoft got through with using it, my computer by remote.

i've tried the solutions which tell me to go do more things, and then those won't work which say more things and its an endless cycle. Some where in this cycle its said stuff about error code 1083 for installing windows support files and something about BITS. I have no idea what to do.
