Recently installed StyleXP and applied one of those Vista Themes which changed the start menu and my desktop icons, however my pc started moving sluggish so I uninstalled it.
Everything went back to its original state except for my internet explorer 7 icon which remained as the icon from the theme (internet explorer 6 icon).
I tried uninstalling the reinstalling but this did not work
Could someone please review my HJT log. I am unable to download microsoft windows updates. This started about 2 weeks ago. Now the system is moving slow. I scanned using, Spywareblaster, Ad-Aware, Bazooka, and Spybot they found nothing.
Windows Explorer has about a two to five second delay (can work with other programs during delay, but can't open start menu or do other explorer functions) when navigating through folders and doing some context menu functions, such as deleting, cut & pasting, etc.Windows Explorer runs at full speed when creating new folders and files through context menus and while navigating through windows in the mini navigation windows, such as the window that opens when you wish to open a file with a program such as WinAmp.Recent actions before condition was noticed.I was trying to hook up to the net through the hotel's LAN drop with an ethernet cable. I finally get Windows to correctly detect the DNS server and begin surfing and attempting to play Warcraft III online. I play a horribly laggy game and then quit out and reboot my computer.I scan for viruses and find none, though I get a read error about some windows/system/ntos.something or what not. I decide to find some XP performance tweaking tools and found a recommendation for Ashampoo WinOptimizer and XP Smoker. I try both and neither fix the problem, but they cleaned out all my cookies I noticed. I uninstalled Ashampoo, but keep XP Smoker.
In last few days Windows (XP Pro SP2) Explorer started to hang fo up to a minute or so when trying to open files. Have scanned for viruses (AVG), malware(Windows Defender), cleaned registry (CClean), defragmented hard drive, restored system to earlier point using both Windows system restore and HP Recovery Manager. HP support said only remaining solution is to reinstall Windows.
just the other day my internet started disconnecting itself then my modem would dial another number after maybe 45 mins to an hour of being connected. i thought it might be a dialer so i scanned with norton antivirus, spybot search and destroy and adaware but not one seamed to find anything related to my problem. the thing that confuses me is that every time it makes a new connection in my network settings labeled with user followed by what i assume is a randomly generated number.
My computer recently started randomly having this window come up. I took a couple of print screens. There is also one to do with System32. I don't know what it means and why it's popping up! My computer has been running very slow since this has started to happen, and my virus scanner comes up clean. My internet connection also randomly drops.
I am using WIn XP at work using a dial-up method to get on the Internet and to access Emails. However.this is not ideal when it comes to WIndows Updates and Anti-Virus Updates and the dial-up is labourourly slow(.as you all know!!).I am way behind in the updates and would take for-ever to catch up.I have Broadband at home on my own PC and am wondering can I just unplug my Work PC and plug it in at home and down load the Updates overnight via the Broadband. The next morning I will unplug again and carry into work and reconnect. I will then ensure that I stay updated with a daily logon to the Update sites.
i have windows xp professional operating system my internet explorer has been corrupt it does not open i want to know that i how can i install internet explorer from my windows XP CD if it is possible
My pc is so slow that it takes ages to play a song in wmp11. Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.
I recently had a problem on my computer where Internet explorer was not working and would'nt open, and no windows based functions that used the explorer interface would work... So i downloaded the IE7 install package on my other computer and burned to disk to install. everything was going along fine, and when prompted to restart to finsih the installation i did so..... that is when "it" hit the fan.

I recently put a new hard drive in my computer. Now whenever I try to start Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer the windows installer starts and the windows will not open until I have cancelled the installer several times. I scanned the registry with Registry Fix and fixed all problems. It still starts every time. Netscape has no like problem starting.
I badly need your support. Day before yesterday (01-Aug-06) night I upgraded the yahoo toolbar and used their norton anti spy to scan. Then I shut down the system and started to work the next day. Every thing is perfectly ok except for one thing. In Windows Explorer, on any folder or drive if I double click or open I get a crash. If I do explore then there is no problem.
C:WindowsTemporary Internet Filescontent.ie5, which i cannot seem to do. They say i should see a series of 4 or more random 8 character names like "ADOZMZS1", which again, I cannot figure this out. So if anyone could
My computer has been sluggish here lately. I have Ad-Aware, Asquared, Spyware Blaster, Spybot and just recently added AimFix and CCleaner (CCleaner seemed to clean a lot of junk out this morning). So can you help me with HJT Log if you think that will help and do you reccommend the above, cleaner, sweepers, scanners?
I turned off my computer and everything worked fine. I turned it on today and when I open my Internet Explorer I get the message "Page cannot be displayed" My Netscape browser works fine. I called Comcast they ran all the diagnosis from their end and said something got corrupted in Internet Explorer. They said it could be a win-sock problemI am running Windows XP, Internet Explorer v.6.0.2800.1106 and using Service pack 1.The only thing I can think to do is uninstall my Internet Explorer, download a new version from Microsoft, and install it.I thought a would ask for a second opinion before I before I tried anything.
computer in my possession crashed, and when i reset, my internet has gone wonky. I use MSN as my ISP, and before, i could access internet explorer, or firefox, or any program without ever actually having to sign in to MSN. after the crash, however, i now have to sign in to access internet explorer, firefox, and a couple programs. what angers me, however, is that i DONT have to sign in to access trillian. Limewire, also, will connect, but wont download anything without msn being logged in. How do i get back to how it was? And no, system restore did not work.
I read that in TOOLS--->Internet options--->Advance, there's a setting that I can make the pulldown manu not be truncated. I can't find it for the life of me.
My XP Pro HD has been performing very sluggishly lately. Takes forever for apps to load, and there is almost freezing between switching between programs sometimes.
I am having problems starting both Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer. Both generate the same error: "Internet (or Windows) Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The details show that ole32.dll is the guilty module. So far I've had no success in locating a solution. I am using Windows XP Home Edition. I should also note that the control panel won't function either since it is basically part of Windows Explorer.
Not sure how that happened or if i have a virus of some sort. I cannot see in IE the file-edit-tools-windows menu at the top of the navagation icons. I have a virus scanner that updates daily, so may be that my grand daughter changed something. How do i restore them back to the way it was?
My friend has a dell demension desktop that is running way slower than it should. I can't figure out why. Her CPU is a P4 2.66 GHz; with 1.25GB PC2700 RAM; 80G HDD (using 25%); The only hard ware installed is a printer, high speed modem, and ipod. I updated the drivers for those, and still no help. I also went through add/remove programs and got rid of those that she will never use, I did not remove any system critical programs, I'm an advanced user so I know what not to delete. I also went into the system tools and stopped some services for running auto on system boot. Like her Ipod, I set to manual, Printer (not spoolsvc) I set to manual, etc. I also ran a defrag on the HDD. Still, not much difference.
My users are unable to access the internet via Internet Explorer 7.With Firefox and changes in the proxy it works good, however, unable to access with Internet Explorer.
I'm thinking maybe the user's profile has problem. However, after deleting the user's profile and have her logged in to create a new profile, it still would not work.
How come it works with Firefox but not with Internet Explorer?
My son in law's XP computer connects to internet with IE only. It will not allow site signons or logins. It will not update anti virus (free AVG) or connect with Firefox or Netscape. The firewall is not blocking. I checked all admin service permissions and can't find any problems. I also tried Winsock Fix. I'm stumped on this and don't know what to do next
i us msn as home page but started recieving this message, Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site http://uk.msn.com/. Operation aborted, however other pages load ok, i am running xp home, how can i cure this?
