After ending a non-responsive program, I often get an error message that Dr. Watson Post Mortem Debugger has encountered an error and needs to quit. I know that Dr. Watson is a software utility that helps log errors after a windows program encounters an error, how can I fix this so that I dont get an error message?

I try to open an email with my Earthlink Total Access and it won't open but just gives me the "Encountered a problem" message in regards to the Dr. Watson Debugger. It seems to only happen on forwarded messages, mostly from our church. This has just started happening in the last 2 weeks.I am running XP on an ACER laptop.

I have been having a problem with my OS. I recently just reformatted my hard drive, because of the problem I am having, just to have it come back on me.The problem I am having is with my Windows Explorer and Dr Watson PostMortem Debugger. Every 20-30 minutes, I will get the messages (2 of them) for, "Windows Explorer has encountered an error and must close", and, "Dr Watson PostMortem Debugger has encountered an error and must close".Again, this is the reason I reformatted in the first place. I know it's not a virus doing this (At least, I hope it's not, as I just reformatted).

Using XP home, HP, 1024 RAM, DSL, with all updates and McAfee virus, I can post on www.nola.com forums for 2 weeks then it knocks me off.At this same time I can post here OK, on AARP and also Genealogy.com.This PC will not post for 3 or 4 days then it works for 3 or 4 weeks. You have tips on why that happens? There is no help files on www.nola.com about logging in and posting.I can log on OK but just not post. I have several USER ID so that is not the issue and I cannot post under any ID when this happens. But, I can post under all USER IDs when the posting works. All of the IE | Options are set to default with nola.com added to the | Internet | Options | Privacy

When the comp is first turned on, everything powers up as normal then it stops at the first boot screen prior to the memory test and powers off the monitor. The computer stays on but does nothing.
The system specs are as follows:
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 1
Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106 (IE 6.0 SP1)
DirectX 4.09.00.0902 (DirectX 9.0b)
CPU Type AMD Athlon XP, 2000 MHz (15 x 133) 2400+
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-7VT600(-L)
Motherboard Chipset VIA VT8377 Apollo KT600
System Memory 512 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)
BIOS Type Award Modular (07/03/03)
Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X (64 MB)
Monitor Benq FP547 [15" LCD] (1336662)
The problem is intermittent and sometimes the computer will randomly shut down.
I initially thought this was video card problem so I have swapped out the video card for a known good one with no success.
Next thing I thought was overheating, I checked the system temps in the bios after a good boot and noticed the CPU temp was on 90 degrees Celsius, I thought this was extremely hot so I cleaned the heat sink and fan and the temp has dropped to the figures below:
Motherboard 38 C (100 F)
CPU 73 C (163 F)
Aux 45 C (113 F)
Seagate ST380011A 43 C (109 F)
The CPU temp still seems hot, however the system will run for days without a problem then out of the blue fail to start.
I then suspected a power supply problem and still suspect that this may be the culprit.
Once the computer has failed to boot, it will not boot fully again until the PSU power lead has been removed briefly.
If I unplug the power cable momentarily the system boots fine on the next boot, which seems to indicate something is being reset when the power is shut off totally.
Voltage Values:
350w PSU
CPU Core 1.68 V
+3.3 V 3.25 V
+5 V 4.73 V
+12 V 12.80 V
+5 V Standby 4.89 V
DIMM VTT 1.33 V
I have also run sea-tools which has detected errors on the hard drive, but I believe the problem is occurring before the system checks the hard drive.
I am receiving no bios beep error codes.
I am leaning toward PSU replacement,

I have a wireless home network: 3 XP Home machines with file and printer sharing. A long time ago I bought a x64 license through my school for somewhere around $7. I have an Athlon 64 3700+ machine I'd like to try it on, and in a nutshell I was wondering if, post-installation, it will still be able to communicate with the other two 32-bit XP machines on my network.

I'm working on a ASUS F5V laptop. The system had some problems, it has to be returned to the manufacturer on an RMA, and they re-installed Windows XP Pro circa December 2007. When I got the machine back it needed many Windows updates. The first was SP3, then there were 41 OS updates, and 9 hardware and other updates. The install process got to #46 of 50, KB951847 (Updated for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5). The screen had not moved for an hour at that point but the same screen remained. I canceled the install, it reported immediately that cancellation was taking place, and then it stopped. No indication it was rolling back the updates.

I recently had to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition on my machine because I was complacent and did not keep up on my updates. As a result, my machine as riddled with worms, trojans, etc. So, I used a Win 98 boot disk and deleted the partition and installed a fresh XP. I ordered Service Pack 2 and installed that along with Norman Antivirus. However, I still need to get up to speed from SVC Pack2. Any suggestions on where I can find these updates so I can download them?I won't be using my machine as I don't want to risk it. In other words, that page where you go and your machine is scanned for applicable updates won't work because I'll be using someone else's machine. I was hoping someone would be able to tell me exactly where to go and I'll download them onto my jumpdrive.

I used my External Harddrive on a macintosh computer - no problem there. I just needed to copy some files from the ext. onto the mac - All Good...
Now my PC won't recognize the files on my ext. I have been reading support forums for the like, but I have not found a solution.
The Mac did not give me any warning that it was altering the file format or anything like that, but it apparently has.
Is there any way I can get my files recognized by my p.c.? Windows XP.

I built a decent computer system for myself a little a year ago. a few weeks ago, I wanted to have to use two monitors with ATI Radeon 9250, so I bought a DVI/VGA adapter. But I couldn't get both monitors working at at the same time. Since I have a brand new ASUS EAX1300HM512 video card, I figured I'd install and that would do the trick. Well that did not work. Then I tried adding both cards on the MOBO, I could not get both monitors working (I'm sure it was user error). Then I removed the EAX1300One, reboot...from that point on the computer kept rebooting after I logon to Windows. I was able to access the computer through safe mode. After several weeks of using my backup pc, I thought I would try to resolve this problem. I removed the MOBO's battery then put it back. Now the computer powers on and posts, I am able to see the bios but after that i just get a black screen with a blinking cursor.

About a week ago I ran windows update and did all of the updates avalible to me. Since then i've found that whenever i'm surfing the net, windows often loads up an error dialog which says that Code: 'A runtime error has occured. Do you wish to debug? line 120 Error 'null' is null or not an object.[yes] [No]I know this is prob due to a script error on the site, but the dubugger is rather annoying, and i'd like to get rid of it as it pops up far too often.

After setting up a system running Windows XP Pro with the user set to be a member of the Administrators group, that spontaneously changes so the user is a member of the "Debugger Users" group. I wonder if anyone else has come across this, and if he knows why it occurs. It isn't generally a problem, but it does cause some problems at times with some of the software we use which requires the user be an Administrator. I think it gets changed when running windows updates, but I'm not sure.

Running MS XP/AOL/Norton System Works/Firewall. Past few weeks have been plagued by a window that opens, intermittantly, when reading email. Can't determine if it is a windows, Norton or virus/adware item, altho Norton, spybot, etc don't show any problems in that respect. The only thing I can't get rid of is a "first ave" request to download. Had that forever but seems to be a dormant item. Anyway. the window opens and reads : Just in time debugger. Please select a debugger. Possible debuggers... New instance of MS script editor. Then there is a checkbox to set current debugger as default. Below are two buttons asking if want to debug using selected debugger. Clicking "X" or no eight (8) times exits the window, usually not to return on that email but sometimes it does. Clicking yes shows some text (HTML?) or code or something with a few words "break" visable.

We have 2 users set up on Windows XP. One of the users works well. When I log on to the other user, I get this message: "Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close". I have tried clicking on "Send Error Report" and "Don't send". It freezes up that side of the computer and won't do anything.

I have been having problems with my screen freezing (first the screensaver froze - I turned it off, then the cursor froze - requires reset, every few hours). The last time this happened I also got a message saying "Dr Watson postmortem debugger has encountered an error and needs to close". Where do I start looking to solve this? Ive run Memtest - all clear (both channels, both modules). I did have an intermittent "Computer wont start" problem that I traced to an ill-fitting long plug on the motherboard - re-seated. A while back I installed Hijack This to problem solve something else but have since forgotten how to use it . I assume my system is producing logs of all this, but where do I look for them?

Dr Watson postmortem debugger error in SP2 when trying to access external usb2 drives? Specifically large video files. The drive freezes completely.I have two external drives on a hub, and have one on an alternate port. I've split them and tested separately, to no avail. Also tried uninstalling usb drivers, running norton/adaware/spybot because I read something about a virus. Never had a speed or freeze issue in SP1 running HUGE videos, or editing software from multiple disks.I only see a few suspects on hijackthis log (a second dr watson?), but don't know enough - and I'm curious whether SP2 might be the culprit.

I am having problems whenever I leave my computer for more than a couple of hours. When I come back to it, it is sluggish or completely frozen and has to be rebooted. Then I am having trouble with only certain web sites running extremely slowly while most others run normally in IE7.As for my computer, it is 2 1/2 years old.It is a Gateway 3 GHz with 1 GB RAM, running XP Media Center.I also have an HP 3GHz with 2GB RAM with XP Media Center that I try to keep running for my husband, and a whole room full of ancient obsolete machines dating all the way back to windows 95.The HP is only 6 months old refurb. The two are networked together with a Netgear wireless router using the wired ports and Cox broadband access. They are firewalled behind the router and additionally, using Zone Alarm Pro.I am running the full suite of Zone Alarm security products including firewall virus protection and spyware removal tool on both.In addition I am running Webroot spyware removal tool on both and AOL spyware removal tool (which is due to expire soon.)All utilities run daily on both machines separately.Automatic updates for Windows is enabled on the HP because my husband can't be bothered with updates. On the Gateway I have the alerts enabled with the option to download and install windows updates at my discretion.
About two months ago, despite all the security software I have in place, two Trojans were discovered in the Gateway machine.Stupid me, instead of leaving them in quarantine, I deleted them, taking out a piece of my boot sector where they must have embedded themselves. It was telling me that the NTLDR file was missing among other things.I had been guilty of not doing regular backups and had an enormous amount of data on my hard drive.I had already purchased a large external storage unit including auto backup software with good intentions and then put it in the closet unopened for several months to be dealt with at a later date.At the first hint of trouble before deleting the Trojans I quickly dumped my documents and photos into my husbands computer, and just in time because I could not even boot into safe mode after I lost boot capability, and the machine was stuck in a continuous restart cycle.
I disabled the restart on boot failure option in setup and tried the System Restore option to try and repair the windows files, but it would not allow me to choose the non destructive restore option. It kept warning me that all my files would be deleted and gave me no other option than to say OK. Then at that point I would have to shut down the machine to get out of that screen and avoid starting the restore. I have an XP pro upgrade version disk that I purchased a few years back, but I can never get the files to all copy correctly for a clean windows install and I didn't know if it would repair a windows installation that had a restore partition loaded on the same hard drive.

After installing a couple of programs I was receiving this "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled" it asks to press ok to terminate and cancel to debug. Once I press cancel to debug it comes up with "No debugger found. Registed JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to launch a JIT debugger with the following command resulted in an error code of 0x2(2). Please check computer settings." How do I fix this problem? I am running a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with WinXP Home.

I had the following problem while logging on to my computer (Windows XP) this morning: While starting up I get an error message saying Windows Explorer must shut down (with the option of sending an error message to MS) even though WE was never open to begin with. When I try to open anything up, like IE or Word I get an error message from Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger saying something about it needing to close (can't remember exactly since I'm at work now). The computer then freezes up and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete out. I ran McAfee Virus Scan and it discovered I had a trojan (netpals). It was apparently cleaned but when I tried opening something up I got the same error messages.I cannot open any programs using my Start menu or clicking on the desktop icon.
