User Profiles Being Renamed To Include Computer Name
Aug 29, 2005I recently had to do a system recovery on WinXP, and when it was complete, it had renamed all my user profiles to: [USERNAME].[Computer Name] rather than just username.IE: C:Docume~1JohnDoe.My_Computer instead of C:Docume~1JohnDoe
Unfortunately, all my settings, documents, financial files, etc are located under the original JohnDoe folder (still present).How can I redirect the JohnDoe log-in to look at the JohnDoe folder rather than JohnDoe.My_Computer?(side note, I set up my computer to share, and when I put in the computer name, I spelled it slightly different than the original. I have changed it back to the original spelling, but with no success. I have also deleted the new folder, just to have it recreated at log in!)

Mar 28, 2008ou can go to windows explorer and access C drive or D drive or the others but when you open My Computer-where it usually had the C:drive and the cd-rom drive etc it just shows the little flashlite lookiing for them but never finds them. Is there something I can do to get the icons back into my computer?

Jan 24, 2007At the start up, I'm getting some error messages..1. mimboot.exe Entry point not found something to do with a CoreDll.dll 2.hpqthb08.exe - Failed to initialize properly- HP image zone?3. A couple of symantec errors (don't use norton anymore but can't delete it either)4. And after we get rid of the error messages, the HP update Agent runs the whole time but can't ever complete the update.I usually have to get out of that by alt+ctrl+del.When we try to shut down the computer, it just doesn't do it. I ran regcleaner and it fixed a bunch of stuff, but still wouldn't shut down or restart properly. Then I disabled NVidia driver helper, seemed to help a little, but now it gets stuck on the blue "logging off" screen and we still have to turn it off and restart manually.

May 2, 2007I recently setup my new computer and during the XP setup I thought I had partitioned my Hard drive so I had 3 of them,I did two 100gb and the 3rd with the remaining. In my computer it shows my main one C:/ and the other D:/.as well, nothing.Its just there, properties says 0 bytes.How can I get the most out of my hard drive, and get the other partitions running? I want to be able to store all of my music on one, and files on the other and have the 3rd for misc files.

Mar 4, 2008i got nothing but a blue screen when i turned it on and it would shut itself down within 5 minutes, even when plugged in. I figured it was due to a virus, so i wiped the drive and reinstalled windows xp. everything seems to work ok, except for the fact that now neither my internal wireless nor my SD slot seem to work at all. Its like my laptop is rejecting them and it didnt start happening until i reinstalled XP.

Feb 23, 2005I am using a Gateway Tablet PC. XP PRO; 2Gig ram; 80 gig hd; Within the last few days it has fallen apart. I have added nothing new. I boot it on and all seems well. I can run an app, work in it and then close it. Then the mouse freezes or slows to a crawl. I can not open any thing else. I registered several DLL's such as urlmon.dll,etc. because of a Micrsoft fix listed elsewhere but this did not work. All spyware and virus checks have been negative. CTRL-ALT-Del gives me an error that the taskmgr.exe could not be initialized. Now the only way to shut down is to totally power off and if reboot I get the blue screen while the disk is checked and it is always negative

Apr 3, 2010I'm trying to set up some accounts on my XPSP3 system. I have some accounts set up, but wanted to change some names. I know that if I change an account name, the directory name stays the same, and I didn't want to get confused later on if I was ever doing some stuff on that directory level.I used this page to copy the settings from my account (named "Main") to a new account named "Admin". I had problems getting access to the folder while in the 3rd account, so followed the instructions here to gain access. Once I got it copied, I loaded Admin and found it looked exactly like Main, which is what I wanted.But then, I went into Main and most everything was gone, and XP was acting as if it was a brand new account. I then went into Documents and Settings and found there were now TWO Main accounts. "Main" and "Main.DARKSIDE" (DARKSIDE is the "full computer name" found in System Properties). I can tell by the directory sizes that Main is the fresh, new account I see in my account list and Main.DARKSIDE appears to be my original Main account (being over 6GB in size).

Feb 17, 2007I've gotten myself in somewhat of a pickle. I have a system that I had built for my husband. I later built a new box for him and decided to sell the previous one. A friend wanted to buy it so I purchased a copy of Windows XP so they'd have their own license, but instead of rebuilding the box, I wiped all the pertinent programs and info they didn't have licenses for and changed the license number to theirs. The problem is, I want to change the user account name under c:documents and settings to reflect the new name.I have created a new ADMIN account, logged in as this account and renamed the account "mitch" to "don". All this does is creates a new user "don" and moves the "my documents" (I have downloaded numerous pdf files that I've created instructing him on how to update antivirus, antispyware and general info on computer use, security, etc. and placed it in the My Documents folder) from "mitch" to don".

Dec 2, 2004I went out of town for 2 weeks, came home and my pc is acting really strange. I've been getting tons of pop-ups, to the point my computer freezes and i must restart. Not only that but it randomly reboots itself even when not being used. Also, when i go to delete files now, the file does NOT go into the recycle bin. I looked at the settings and there is no check mark next to the "do not move files into recycle bin". My BF said he had been downloading things so I figured maybe its a virus or something. I ran Nortons... nothing. Ran AVG... nothing. A friend told me it sounded like spyware so he told me to run Adaware & Spybot. Did that, found a ton of stuff. But when i retarted the pc, it wanted to start in "safe mode". I noticed that most of these pop ups are (search miracle ??) Found info that its a trojan, but i dont know. . I dont know what to do, totally computer illiterate.
