i want to free up space but dont know how, i tried disk clean-up, ccleaner and still not that many space was freeup up also i want my computer to be alot faster because lately its bein very slow.
View 1 RepliesI'm really getting aggrevated with trying to get some more free space on my laptop. One day I was running at 80%+. Then I got DSL and my free space went to 57%. I've deleted numerous files through Add/Remove Software and Explorer. I've used WinCleaner One Click, Disk Cleaner, LCleaner. I've scanned for viruses using whatever virus protector Verizon uses and Avast. Both come up with nothing. I've cleaned my history, temp files, and cookies in Internet Options. Can anyone give me some tips on what else I can do without reformatting? My laptop doesn't run slow or act bogged down at all. It runs like normal. I'm just afraid that it's going to crash.

I use disk cleanup and defrag often, as well as a free registry cleaner every now and again (which seems to pick up the same problems every time, i think mostly because error files are with programs that came preinstalled on my computer that are long gone, if anyone knows how to get rid of those let me know). I'm running on only 512 mb of memory. How do I view other specs? I can also provide a list of the things in add remove if you like so you guys can tell me what's unnessesary.

View 2 Replies View RelatedToday I deleted some files totaling about 4 gigs in size (also emptying the recycling bin) and it did not free up any space on my hard drive (NTFS, SATA, 320GB, 16MB Cache, 7200 RPM, Western Digital WD3200KS). It reported the same free space as before I had deleted the files. When I select all the files and hit properties the size on disk is reported as 272 GB (292,118,638,592 bytes), but when I go to properties on the disk itself it reports used space as 276 GB (297,209,229,312 bytes). I was wondering if anyone knew a way to "reclaim" this space (I don't know if windows just didn't mark the space as free or what). This has happened to other drives of mine, reformatting fixes them

After it shuts off, it makes a weird noise(like a high pitch then low pitch), it seems like its coming from the motherboard or something.I can't even turn it off or on using the power button so I have to pull the plug from the back of the tower and restart.

Even the startup sound is very drawn out and is characterized by a long, skipping echo. Music skips randomly and even alert noises, (such as the one heard when ending a process) has the same skipping/echo. This happens even when there are few apparent processes running and very little CPU usage (such as 5%), as well as when the system is overloaded (which happens remarkably quickly for the 20-30 processes running).

Now there appears to be only 22gb of free space.Is this normal? Sometimes it shows 2.84GB free, and at other times as little as 200MB. Sometimes I get a Low Disk message. My disk is very clean and I keep it that way. What is eating up all this space? I was told this is a characteristic of XP. Could it be the Restore function? or what.

Between drives C: and D: the total disk space is about 130GB. I lost almost 270GB of space. I installed Acronis Disk Director to see if I can recover that 270GB of missing space. Well Acronis only sees the same amount that Windows does.Is there any other utility that I can use to regain that lost space.
View 1 Replies View RelatedXP kept giving me pop ups saying that i have a danerously low disk space.. i deleted all extra files and music and etc and i was fine for a few weeks but lately its doing the same thing. there are 4 accounts on this computer and two of which refuse to log onto the internet (NetZero) one of them freezes whenever you click anything that isnt the start menu.. actually if you click something the whole screen blinks and only the backround is visible for a second and then all the icons return.i cant get into hijackthis to run it and i cant use ad aware because my definitions are a month old and it refuses to dowload new ones, the erro message says that the files cant be read. spybot works but then when it comes time to delete files i get this message " unexpected error in fixing problems (stream-schreibfehler)"
