Computer Space I Can Use?
Mar 25, 2006When I go into the defrag screen, it says I have 51% of space available. How much space I can use because I heard once that if you get close to 50% your computer can crash is that true?

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy computer has 66gb of space. a few days ago, when i checked,it had 33gb of free space.since then, i updated my adobe reader, and i also upgraded my antivirus to Norton Antivirus 2007. Now there appears to be only 22gb of free space. Is this normal? Now( i think As a result,of this upgrading), my computer now is really slow to startup, and just as slow when reloading from a hibernated state. is there anything i can do to speed up the computer startup,or is there something wrong?

View 11 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded to XP Home. My 10GB disk was never over 5GB used with 98SE. Now the free space is jumping all over the place. Sometimes it shows 2.84GB free, and at other times as little as 200MB. Sometimes I get a Low Disk message. My disk is very clean and I keep it that way. What is eating up all this space? I was told this is a characteristic of XP. Could it be the Restore function? or what.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell server with a 400GB HD. After installing Windows 2000 Server, Disk Management only reads 10GB of disk space for Partition C: and 120GB for Partition D:. Between drives C: and D: the total disk space is about 130GB. I lost almost 270GB of space. I installed Acronis Disk Director to see if I can recover that 270GB of missing space. Well Acronis only sees the same amount that Windows does.Is there any other utility that I can use to regain that lost space.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm really getting aggrevated with trying to get some more free space on my laptop. One day I was running at 80%+. Then I got DSL and my free space went to 57%. I've deleted numerous files through Add/Remove Software and Explorer. I've used WinCleaner One Click, Disk Cleaner, LCleaner. I've scanned for viruses using whatever virus protector Verizon uses and Avast. Both come up with nothing. I've cleaned my history, temp files, and cookies in Internet Options. Can anyone give me some tips on what else I can do without reformatting? My laptop doesn't run slow or act bogged down at all. It runs like normal. I'm just afraid that it's going to crash.

View 5 Replies View Relatedwith some of the smaller and more *necesary* programs operating from drive c (internal), my drive usage runs at about 60% used. Somehow however, I'll be typing away, and a message comes up saying I have low drive space. In the space of a few seconds my drive goes from 60%-ish to 100% full! I search, check ALL folders but NOTHING I can see is new/downloaded/self-created.
Is this rapid and unfortunately very - daily - regular rise and fall by over 8gig normal? Usually I have to run ALL my bug/spyware/system doctor/windows doctor type software before it goes away, but then sometimes it just goes away by its'self with no input from me at all. Please tell me that this is something easily sorted, because when usingn space hungry prog's like p/shop or audition it stops me from saving/changing doc's and simply allows me all in all to do sweet FA until IT clears it's own mind up as to how big it is! Is this an XP issue
Running XP sp2.Recnetly,dont know it had anything to do with my kid's download, the pc just failed to respond,if not extremely slow.I did a recovery and it was better but not for long. Now I got the "low disk space message"regularly and i did another disk cleanup;funny thing is no matter how many files I deleted and uninstall, the message is coming back and at time with less space on c:
View 10 Replies View RelatedI Installed the Microsoft .NET Framework because it was listed as a high priority update and it appears that Windows Cardspace was installed with it. Windows Cardspace shows up in control panel as a vertical file such as are in Windows Vista. Also cardspace freezes the computer and keeps it from restarting. Should I uninstall the .NET framework 3.0?The freezing and restarting problems only happens when I'm trying to use cardspace(actually cardspace never loads.)
Another thought-I've seen links to windows xp help forums off the microsoft website but now I can't find them. Does anyone else know where they are?
Iv'e installed XP pro on my new computer.after installing all the software i need on the computer i checked how much disk space i'm using before creating an image, and then i encountered a strange thing. When i measure th used disk space using ALT+ENTER from the root directory all the file amounts to about 9GB (all visible and all accounted), but when i check the disk properties it reports over 20GB used. When i created the image, the file weighed over 20GB also even thought i don't have 20GB of files.I know for sure that this is very unlikely that i'm actually using 20GB and that ALT+ENTER reports a wrong size because on my other computer.

View 8 Replies View RelatedYesterday I had 560 MB's of free space on Drive C, today I suddenly received a low disk warning. I had 163 MB's remaining, then a few minutes later I had 90 MB's. I searched Drive C for files/folders over 1 MB that had been modified in the last week and there were a half dozen huge files that were part of a Windows XP update it was trying to install. I turned off the automatic updates so I can do them manually from now on, but can I do anything about those files that were modified today to free up space? One of them is marked a temporary file - can I delete it?

I've noticed sometimes that the Free Space on my harddrives won't reflect changes I've made. For example, on my 28.6gb F: drive, I had about 586mb free. I just deleted a video file of about 700 mb, so it should be up to about 1.2 gb. Oddly enough, its still at 586mb.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently noticed that my free space on hard drive has been eroded and my used space has been increasing. I have not added any software. Much to my dismay I cannot figure out why this would occur. We did make recovery disks and removed our partition some weeks ago. It seems our C drive is using up space without any explanation. Ran many different anti virus and spyware software and they did not detect anything.

My computer is about 2 years old. In those two years, I had to re-install Windows XP and everything else on my computer...for reasons unknown...I recently performed a New Installation of Windows XP on my computer. I don't have alot of things installed on my computer. The total space all the programs in my Add and Remove programs file takes up is only 1GB. Since I had to start over and re-install everything and my programs only add up to 1GB, Shouldn't I have more free space ?
how to expand the disk space that I have. The primary C drive has the OS on it and it is only about 14GB, and my entire disk is about 50GB, the unallocated space is about 34 GB. I have tried to expand the primary partition unsuccessfully. Do I have to reload the entire OS ? I do not have the origional disk to reload the OS. It is a sony PCG-CRT160 computer with 500 mb ram and approximately a 50 GB primary drive that was partitioned when I got it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently ive been getting the yellow triangle icon with an ''!'' in it, saying that I have very low disk space. Ive noticed my computer has also been running slower than usual. Maybe half a year ago I came here with the same problem, and someone (forget the name, sorry) posted a link to a program somebody made that clears your disk space up for you. It deleted old unused files, and it worked great. You sort of just clicked on the link on the site, a box came up, and you checked off what you needed to be cleared, and then the program fixed it for you.
