Opening Computer From Desktop,shows Up On Taskbar But Not On My Screen?

when i try to open my computer from desktop or even certain programs like (ex DAP download accelerator is my default ) they show 'open' on my taskbar but i cant see the open folder. when i right click the tab on my taskbar and click maximize the tab just wizz past the right of my screen but i cant see it just only shows on my taskbar.When i do alt-tab it shows its there but dosent come up so i can see it .

The problem in that desktop is showing up but there are no icons no taskbar no start menu. only wallpaper. pressing alt ctrl del shows up taskmanager but there are no adware or other such processes running up only system processes, i can run programs through it and other things like softwares. last thing she did was paste cliparts from cd to hard drive.

When using internet explorer from time to time when i open or close a web page my active desktop and taskbar disappear and the screen goes black,then it gradually starts to reload fully again.Can anyone tell me if they have experienced the same problem,and if so,what is the cause of it?

I consider myself at least a bit competent when it comes to XP and computers... but this problem has me puzzled. I've done tons of searches on google, various forums, microsoft database, etc... and have found some similar problems except that I can't get my taskmanager to become visible. It's there, I know it because I get the resize pointers around the taskmanager's box.
Also, when I start-up WinXP. It gets to the login screen but I can't see my login picture or buttons. I can click on them and enter my password, but when it logs in (the windows start sound plays) the whole screen is black except for the mouse cursor (I don't have a wallpaper, just a black background, so I can't really tell you if my "wallpaper" is still there).

I have a computer that has had XP installed on it for over one year with no
problems.A few days ago it exhibited an error message "Initiated by NT
Authority/System - Remote Call Service terminated unexpectedly" in 60 seconds it rebooted the computer.The process repeated itself whenever the computer was rebooted.I found news messages that others had had this experience when a certain virus was active in 2003 and concluded that somehow I had been infected. The Microsoft letters on the subject have not yielded anything that worked.( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893086 for example)

i got nothing but a blue screen when i turned it on and it would shut itself down within 5 minutes, even when plugged in. I figured it was due to a virus, so i wiped the drive and reinstalled windows xp. everything seems to work ok, except for the fact that now neither my internal wireless nor my SD slot seem to work at all. Its like my laptop is rejecting them and it didnt start happening until i reinstalled XP.

Since installing IE7 the open windows on the taskbar show the url instead of the website name. For example instead of showing 'Yahoo' it says http://yahoo.com. Is there a way to change this?

I am using a Gateway Tablet PC. XP PRO; 2Gig ram; 80 gig hd; Within the last few days it has fallen apart. I have added nothing new. I boot it on and all seems well. I can run an app, work in it and then close it. Then the mouse freezes or slows to a crawl. I can not open any thing else. I registered several DLL's such as urlmon.dll,etc. because of a Micrsoft fix listed elsewhere but this did not work. All spyware and virus checks have been negative. CTRL-ALT-Del gives me an error that the taskmgr.exe could not be initialized. Now the only way to shut down is to totally power off and if reboot I get the blue screen while the disk is checked and it is always negative

I can't seem to get anything to work. I wanted to check Mcafee to make sure I didn't let it expire and allow a virus issue. Wouldn't open. Rebooted several times with no change. The lower Taskbar is off the screen and I can't seem to get it back, so no start button to access programs not on the desktop. I can open " my computer " but it won't tell me If I have an internet connection. I think I must have connectivity.

I remember few days ago.. my kaspersky identified some system file as a trojan.. so it probably a misunderstanding when i was installing system mechanic. it got deleted.. and i have this automatic option to delete them after they are put in backup in kaspersky.
now whenever i open my pc, my desktop and taskbar and start menu,etc goes away after a few seconds! Now i rely on the task manager..

Turned on other computer this morning. The desktop wallpaper showed. There were no icons or taskbar. I right click on the desktop and nothing happens. I can do a ctrl+alt+del and access the task manager but have no idea on how to restore my desktop. When I startup in safe mode all I get is a black screen.

when i boot up my computer and log onto a user, the wallpaper shows up and that is it. I tried pressing CTRL + ALT + DLT but nothing shows up, except for the mouse. I am not able to access anything on my computer except for when i'm in Safe mode. So I tried system restore and rolled back it back to previous checkpoints. It worked for a while, and that was it.

When I turn on my system this evening all of my desktop item would not work. This window is opening saying that Windows can not open this file, all files have .ink on them. I just found out that I can not get to my e-mail. The only two thing that I can open is My Computer, and the Internet.

I opened that stupid E-card virus I think. Now all i've been getting is tons of pop-ups. I read in a forum to just let it run it's course and eventually it would stop, or to do a bunch of stuff that I didn't understand. So, I ran all of my anti-virus' and ad aware and ccleaner and regcure and still I'm getting tons of popups but I was just going to be patient and let it run it's course. But now I keep getting this new message and when I close the message it ends up causing my taskbar and icons to go away. I was continually restarting my computer to get them back and thinking I would just not close the message in hopes that I could at least copy my documents over to another computer. I have not been able to do that so far and I'm freaking out. I use this computer for work. I am very new at this and this is my first post so please bear with me. I did read a few posts and realized that most people do ask for that Hijack This report thing, so I've done that and will post it next.

I have a problem with my Windows XP computer. All my icons and taskbar has dissapeared. Its usually can be fixed by opening explorer.exe which wont open. I have tried multiple ways and the only way to access programs is by task manager.I currently haven't got a HijackThis Log which I will upload a.s.a.p. There are also no viruses and no hardrive errors so I'm pretty stumped on what I should do.

i've got a nice computer. i LIKE my computer.. at least i used to. suddenly, i get a virus.. or something... malware? i'm still getting used to the new terms... well anyway, this thing sends me to "ultimate defender" and other sites telling me i need to use their service in order to fix my problems... seems my only real problem was the giant biohazard symbol replacing my wallpaper which.. when clicked, takes me to yet another stupid adware site thingie... yep.. so i ran a spyware/antivirus thing... and when i rebooted, well.. my wallpaper is back at least... and now it's all i see.. no icons, no taskbar.. well okay it pops up for like.. 3 seconds.. but i can't right-click.. i can't do jack squat but ctrl-alt-delete. can one of you boys help me? i already had a friend walk me through the "hack-this" thingie.. and he copied my log... so... i guess i'll post that next.

I run W98SE and this is all new to me. My daughter runs XP.I created some desktop shortcuts from my daughter's favorites(bookmarks). When you click on one the "Open With" window pops up asking which program to use to open it. IE is highlighted by default and all you have to do is click "Ok" and the shortcut opens the assigned task.

I just turned my computer on today and my taskbar is magically gone. I can't right click where it is on the screen and I know it's not hidden etc (i'm not a moron). I can hit the windows key to bring upt he start menu but I cannot see the bar, clock, etc on my screen. I've tried a bunch of things and nothing has worked. I thought it was just that explorer.exe wasnt on, but my icons and such are working just fine, and when I control+alt+delete it shows explorer.exe as running.

About a week ago problems started happening with my screen saver. It would be normal when it first came on, and then it would start getting distorted and would have lines going through it. Then when I clicked back to
the desktop all the icons on the taskbar and desktop would also be distorted and have vertical white lines going through them. Today the problem is worse since now icons in the Start menu also have the lines going through them. It now also has lines through my programs and some web pages. I haven't been able to get rid of the problem

When i enter the OS, after the Welcome screen, After about 30secs my desktop and taskbar stop working, also anything thas is associated with Windows (Task manager, "Run", system restore, msconfig etc.) also crash. I could still open firefox through a button on my keyboard and mouse. I have tried kaspersky online scan, spybot search and destroy, AVG, registery cleaner and Windows update to fix it, but nothing has worked yet.

Either the taskbar on my laptop (2 user accounts [1 admin, 1 ltd.] + inactive Guest) doesn't respond on startup or the desktop (icons) doesn't (often I can get the taskbar to respond to the mouse by switching user accounts back and forth, but then I lose access to the desktop icons). This laptop is primarily used for playing dvd movies (WinDVD 3.1).

No taskbar no icons just desktop wallpaper on a Dell Precision 490 running XP Pro SP2. I had a work-around when this happened, I hit ctl-alt-del, ran task manager then started explorer.exe and all would be well. At first this problem was intermittent but now it's every time I boot. Also when booting into Safe Mode.Now even running explorer.exe won't bring up taskbar or icons. I've run Symantac and found no virus.

We ended up with a virus AV8. Got rid of the file but now the start button, desktop icons and taskbar are not showing up or working. I have read a lot of the suggestions that people have been giving and I renamed the explorer.exe and can use that, but can't get my desktop restored nor my taskbar back.
