When i enter the OS, after the Welcome screen, After about 30secs my desktop and taskbar stop working, also anything thas is associated with Windows (Task manager, "Run", system restore, msconfig etc.) also crash. I could still open firefox through a button on my keyboard and mouse. I have tried kaspersky online scan, spybot search and destroy, AVG, registery cleaner and Windows update to fix it, but nothing has worked yet.

As of 2 days ago the DESKTOP will FREEZE when it is loading startup icons and the mouse arrow keeps a "busy" symbol and it cannot select the "start" button, cannot click on anything on the desktop, just stays frozen in a "loading"position. I cannot get my laptop to do anything, so I have to CTL, ALT, DEL and do a "Restart" in SAFE MODE, and then I cannot get on the internet or anything in Safe Mode.
we have had the computer in question for about 3 or four years now, however starting approximately a year ago it started to do this weird thing where randomly the entire computer will completely freeze, if there is any sound playing at the time of the freeze the sound loops repetitively and this will continue until the computer is reset.I tried to see if there was any specific cause for it doing this but i can only say that it happens more often during more intense programs (Eg: I-Tunes, video games, more demanding browsers like Chrome and Opera) but it will crash on occasion while doing nothing or running less intense programs like Internet explorer or paint. I have done numerous checks for virusesadwaremalware and nothing comes up that ultimately fixes the problem when it is removed. I have done several scans for registry errors and still nothing fixes the problem, at one point i even used the windows boot disc to delete the registry and restore it back to default, which as you can guess did not fix the problem and mainly just left me with a huge headache.I have reset the Bios and that doesn't work. i found something relatively similar to the problem i was having which would suggest that my RAM is bad so i ran memtest but after 4 passes it came up with nothing.I used the vacuum cleaner to clean out the whole case and still no results.

I have the following problems with my Gateway 4540 GZ notebook (Centrino 1.5Ghz, 512 Ram, 80 HD). I REALLY need help here, as of right now, the PC is almost useless System freezes/hangs after seemingly random intervals. During a freeze, the mouse cursor will not move, and system does not respond in any way. Even hitting CAPS LOCK does not light up its corresponding LED light. View 6 Replies View Relatedmy problem is this, i switched on one of my home pc,s today and after briefly connecting to the internet it seemed to freeze/crash so i switched off & on again and no matter what i try which includes running the network setup wizard i keep on getting the same result, an error box(microsoft visual c++ runtime library) stating that a buffer overun has been detected which has corrupted the pc,s internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must be terminated. I have no idea what caused this as this is the first time ive seen this error.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have two problems the first, my system crashes every time that I try to change an icon on the desktop. If I want to rename or delete a icon I have to use explore to do so. Also some times when using the explore the system crashes. I have run virus scans, defrag, Norton Windows Utilities, and Spy Sweeper all come back clean. I go to the task list to check what processes are running but everything seems to low. The cpu shows 2% to 4% usage. My second problem is USB connections. I can no longer sync with my Dell Axim. I have disconnected and reconnected the USB connection and reinstalled the Microsoft 4.2 Activesync software but nothing helps. My USB printers still works.

This is a duplicate setup - i have two systems very nearly identical, both HP DC7600's, full-up 4GB RAM, 160GB HD, fairly fresh Windows XP Professional SP3, typical applications: MS Office, Picasa, iTunes, Realplayer, Google Chrome browser, blah blah. Nothing exotic.One of them, after being left with a half dozen tabs open in Chrome, and not much else going on other than AVAST Antivirus running in background, upon checking back in with the Screen Saver "On" [starfield], no password needed, the screen/display freezes on the background image, and nothing else pops up on screen except the mouse cursor.

Got a P4 1,6Ghz Dell that starting to freeze after booting to desktop and then rebooting.
when i boot up, i can sometimes get to the desktop, then i hear a click from my tower and everything is frozen. all fans are still running. and power is still on.i've tried a clean install of windows to no avail. this happens everytime , but the freeze can happen before i get to the desktop and also in safe mode.
seems to be a hardware issue. i may be able to get a friends graphics card to see if that is the problem
I run Windows XP Home SP2 and enjoy listening to internet radio for hours at a time while doing non-computer activities. On several random occasions lately, the audio stream has stopped and I discover my desktop has locked up...with no response from keyboard or mouse. After a reset, I've checked the event log and Dr. Watson (drwtsn32.log) but can find no entry, including date/time, related to the freeze. My system runs cool, regularly showing 34C and 35C for board and CPU temps, with all fans at appropriate speeds. My firewall, antivirus and antispyware apps are regularly updated. I haven't installed new hardware or apps in weeks. What other tools are available to troubleshoot this kind of freeze?

The windows search icon is displayed for 10 seconds or more while loading the control panel, search or help utilities. I am using Mcafee security suite and fixcleaner for security virus and malware protection. These programs show a clean system. Also desktop icons are blanked out for at least a minute when leaving programs. When the icons fill in the system operates fine.

After I click and drag a few programs from a folder onto the background of the desktop, some programs still remain in the folder and they also are coppyed to the desktop, and some other programs are earased from the folder and are placed on the desktop. (So in other words, some of the files are "dulplicated". Some program icons still remain in the folder and on the desktop, and some are only on the desktop and not in the folder.)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had my computer for a while and have upgraded it many times. One such time was a few years ago when I went from Win98SE to WinME. Things were good for a while until I needed to reformat my harddrive, couldn't find my WinME CD and had to go back to Win98SE. Problem was, I have another harddrive, that I didn't include in the "downgrade" so it was unavailable after I loaded win98. I formatted that disk and things have been fine since.
I got an Ipod for Christmas and didn't notice when I bought it that it required 2000 or XP. I thought, not a problem, I'll just upgrade to XP. So last night, I upgraded and immediately noticed some problems. First of all, when I right click on the desktop, the computer freezes and you have to restart. Same thing happens if you're in a folder and try to create a new folder. My Sims2 game won't run (I've uninstalled and reinstalled wtih no luck)....
I opened that stupid E-card virus I think. Now all i've been getting is tons of pop-ups. I read in a forum to just let it run it's course and eventually it would stop, or to do a bunch of stuff that I didn't understand. So, I ran all of my anti-virus' and ad aware and ccleaner and regcure and still I'm getting tons of popups but I was just going to be patient and let it run it's course. But now I keep getting this new message and when I close the message it ends up causing my taskbar and icons to go away. I was continually restarting my computer to get them back and thinking I would just not close the message in hopes that I could at least copy my documents over to another computer. I have not been able to do that so far and I'm freaking out. I use this computer for work. I am very new at this and this is my first post so please bear with me. I did read a few posts and realized that most people do ask for that Hijack This report thing, so I've done that and will post it next.

I have tried multiple ways and the only way to access programs is by task manager.I currently haven't got a HijackThis Log which I will upload a.s.a.p. There are also no viruses and no hardrive errors so I'm pretty stumped on what I should do.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just turned my computer on today and my taskbar is magically gone. I can't right click where it is on the screen and I know it's not hidden etc (i'm not a moron). I can hit the windows key to bring upt he start menu but I cannot see the bar, clock, etc on my screen. I've tried a bunch of things and nothing has worked. I thought it was just that explorer.exe wasnt on, but my icons and such are working just fine, and when I control+alt+delete it shows explorer.exe as running.
