Cannot Downgrade From Vista To And Installing Drivers

I recently put XP on a Compaq Presario C700 CTO that came preinstalled with Vista. I had to change some things in th Bios for Xp to install and now I need some drivers. Nothing is supported. I received links for various drivers someone told me i needed but none of them worked partly because i wasn't sure how to install them as the instructions were useless. The drivers I'm missing are Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus, Ethernet Controller, Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus, Sm Bus Controller, Video Controller, Video Controller (VGA Compatible), and one Unknown device which I think is my wireless (Atheros 06X Wireless Network Adapter). Any help as to how I can get these drivers installed and get XP working would be greatly appreciated.
I recently downgraded my HP PAVILION DV6500 from vista to xp because I was having complications with connecting a dial up plus other downloading other softwares. Now that my system is with xp, I have lost sound and some other drivers. I have tried downloading several drivers but none seem to work. Right now I have a laptop without sound or even VGA.I need help.Please,if anyone can send me a software to get back my sound and other drivers I will be most grateful. I like my laptop and don't want to lose it.
I posted here in February '08 about a downgrade from Vista Home Basic to XP Home, and received good information on finding the necessary drivers at the Acer website.
I got XP on the Acer up and running, Internet access, etc. all appeared fine. I am now adding speakers and unable to get sound. I viewed Device Manager and found to my surprise that I've got question marks next to Display Adapter >Video Controller and Other Devices > PCI Device. Interestingly, Sound, Video and Game Controllers appears normal in Device Manager, but no sound card appears in the list (interesting since it is lack of sound that prompted me to check in the first place
I've got a Lenovo X60 Tablet, which came preinstalled with XP. Last year I installed Vista Ultimate (OEM version), but of different reasons I do not want Vista anymore on my PC and want to downgrade to XP Tablet edition. I have now a XP Tablet edition that I want to install, but it crashes just after it have started the process. PC is turned on, it boots from the USB CD-Rom drive, it starts to install the drivers, but when it comes to where it says "restarting windows", it crashes and gives me a blue screen telling me that the disk can be corrupted, should be checked for viruses etc. etc. This have happened three times now, and now I have been searching the internet for information of how to work around this. I haven't found any good sources yet and hoped some of you guys at this forum could help me out
I recently downgraded from vista to xp pro and during the downgrade i unplugged a 400 gb hard drive that i use only for storage. after a clean install of xp pro i plugged in the drive and while booting i get a wierd dos looking screen that says vista cant load or something of that nature. i unplug the drive and viola xp loads. this is just a back up drive with nothing but music and pictures on it. could vista have written something to the drive i cannot see? format is not an option. if i plug it in after xp loads it works great and i can access the drive perfectly
With all the threads providing help for people who want to downgrade their Vista OEM branded systems to XP, I'm wondering how you go back to Vista if desired using the recovery partition. In this particular case the computer in question is a Dell. I successfully installed Windows XP, but the MBR was obviously overwritten, so the F8 and F11 keys do not provide the option to access the recovery partition. I did some searching on the web, but I wasn't able to find a solution to this
I got a PC on Boxing Day and got a free vista upgrade when vista came out.So when vista came out I installed it and it was running fine, Then about 3 months later all the problems started here are some of them:
PC takes about 15 minutes to start-up. It goes to the loading then a black screen the after the 15 minuets have gone it goes to the screen where you pick the user you want and it's ok from there on Blue screens Control panel not working ,So Im looking to downgrade back to XP however I don't have an XP disk I have a Packard Bell is there a way I can downgrade with no CD, Someone said it's on a drive but its hidden
I am attempting a downgrade on my Dell XPS M1530. It has Vista Ultimate. I have unallocated hard drive space for the XP partition. When I put in my XP disc, it loads and states that "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disks are powered on and properly connected etc. etc." How come this is happening? I know people have downgraded this specific laptop before, as it is all over the internet but I can't find anyone else getting this error
I bought an HP Pavilion p6101f that came with Vista Home Premium installed on it. I bought an OEM version of Windows XP Pro with the intention of downgrading the operating system. I was told that our network, which runs mostly XP Pro machines, might suffer problems if we installed a computer not running Vista - I guess mismatched OS's might pose problems.In any event, after I booted to Vista, I could not see an option to "Install" XP upon seeing the associated dialog box after inserting the disc while in the middle of a successful Vista session. I then tried to boot to the XP CD, in order to install XP and then restore the system.I kept getting the Blue-Screen of Death.
The computer will begin to boot Fedora (Linux), Windows 7 repair disk, and maybe some others - but not XP Pro.
I want to install Windows XP Pro on my buddy's computer that came with Vista, but I am physically incapable of doing so.
I just downgraded from Vista/Win7 to XP. In Control Panel/system/hardware/device manger. It's showing no ethernet drivers. in network connections, nothing. How do I fix this so I can go online? Posted via Mobile Device
Whenever i install drivers on my pc, (i've tried graphics card drivers and wireless network card drivers) my pc stops working. When i installed the graphics card drivers, i tried testing the graphics on a game (counter-strike) but as soon as i got into the game, the pc flashes a blue screen, and reboots. I cant see what the blue screen says because it flashes on and off again to quick for me to read it. I decided to uninstall the graphics card drivers, and the game worked perfectly, but the graphics were REALLY bad. So i thought i might need to update some other drivers, so i tried to install my wireless network card, but when i finished installing the drivers when i had to restart my computer, it flashed the BSOD.... AGAIN! I need help urgently as im going to a LAN gaming comp called "rezidue" and its on in 2 weeks, i need my pc fixed by then! All these problems started when i upgraded my CPU. Everything was running smooth, and i was happily playing along on my computer, when i was asked what my FPS was in counter-strike, and i was all "mine are 65!" and there like "wow that sucks, mines 130" so i set out on my epic quest to get better FPS then everyone else and MAN THAT WAS A MISTAKE. I upgraded from my celeron 2.8ghz cpu to a P4 3.0ghz HT cpu, and thats when things started messing up on me. My entire system is as follows (incase it can help someone help me) P4 3.0ghz HT CPU, Microstar P4 motherboard, 128mb Nvidia Geforce mx4000 AGP x8 graphics card, 256MB ddr ram (recently brought new 1GB ddr ram off ebay just for rezidue! should be here soon!) TP-LINK 54mbps wireless network card) And last but not least
I've been casually looking for a new laptop for my Mom for her first computer. Now I am ready to get one, but just about the only choice is something pre-loaded with Vista. I have no experience with Vista and have heard more bad than good about it, therefore I think it would be easier to get her up and running if we're not both having to learn a new OS.
I upgraded my computer from ME to XP with few problems but wondered how difficult it would be to take a new laptop and go backwards. I know I'd most likely have to purchase a Full version of XP, but how much of a hassel is it to get all the drivers/XP versions of necessary pre-loaded software? Would a Vista compatible version of say Word work if I did this? Any other problems I haven't thought of?
After the machine has been left alone for some time (at least long enough for the screen saver to kick in, which by default is set to 20 minutes, but the delay required may be more than that 20 minutes), you move the mouse or hit a key to clear the screen saver. The screen saver immediately goes away, leaving you with a blank desktop or blank wallpaper with a mouse pointer. At this point, you would expect to see a dialog box with the title "Computer Locked" that says "This computer is in use and has been locked. While it's in this state, the machine is not frozen: the mouse pointer will move, and the machine can be accessed over the network. If you wait long enough, which I've found to be on the order of 30-45 minutes or so, you will eventually see that "Computer Locked" dialog box, provided you move the mouse occasionally to prevent the screen saver from kicking in again.
I bought this computer... stupidly i might add... from an unnamed (because i used to work there and recommend their business) rent to own store. For the run of the mill daily family pc it had been great! Now... when i bought this pc i ran the VISTA (<--- still leaves a bad taste in my mouth!!) home basic Operating system that came on it out of the box. After upgrading the 512MB of ram to 2GB and discovering vistas ram hungry method of operation... i chose like many others to downgrade to a more stable and familiar windows xp. I of course had friends that hooked me up with XP Black, Im sure you've heard of it by now. That runs on XP pro platform and ran great with the exception of the initial gathering drivers that seemed to not be available for my pc.
I recently purchased a Gateway MT6451 notebook. The first day, it crashed, and said "No Operating System found". It ran very slow, and sluggish. I was not pleased, so I formated the drive and installed Windows XP Pro. I've scoured the internet for drivers, as Gateway only provides Vista drivers for my laptop. I've got just about everything working except for one item in Device Manager: "SM Bus Controller" I've read this has to do with the chipset on the M/B. So I went to the AMD site, but don't know which download I need.
I took Vista Home off of my laptop computer (Compaq Presario CQ60-202US) but I can't find drivers that will work with XP. Can I find drivers that will solve my problem?
I recently downgraded my Gateway Notebook MT6841 (http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/...4584Rsp3.shtml) from Vista to XP.for obvious reasons.I was thrilled to find out that they dont supply drivers for the Mobo's Video card, audio, and modem drivers for XP.
I want to replace Vista with XP however my laptop has a SATA HD. I know that I can create a boot disk on either a floppy or a CD however I think it should be possible for me to install the drivers on an external USB HD? Before I format my drive I just wanted to confirm that this is possible?
I am running the public beta 2 of Windows Vista x86 (32-bit version) on my PC--dual-booting with Windows XP SP2-- and I can't get my blasted Internet to work with it. Unfortunately, I haven't any way of running ethernet cable from my PC to the router--and so I need my wireless to work. The adapter is USB--a D-Link DWL-G120 wuireless card. It works fine as I'm using it now in XP SP2. My PC specs are listed in my sig.Anyone know of a driver that will work or any way to make this thing work with the Vista Beta 2 x86 build (public release)? I don't care if it only lets me use 802.11b--I just want a frikin driver that will allow me to test Vista's IE7 and such.
I re-formated my sisters computer yesterday, and after installing it i had no internet. As i hadn't installed any drivers yet, i understood that. But after heading over to dell's site, downloading all of the drivers for her computer and then installing them, i STILL do not have any internet. I don't see any connections on the computer either, it's just blank!
I am in over my head... My big hard drive just came up as a grossly smaller size and I got a message from the OS saying "this drive needs to be formatted."How I got here is kind of long, but bear with me. It started a few months ago with my screen randomly not working when I'd turn on or restart my computer, as if my cable wasn't connected or something. I spent hours and days on forums and help sites trying to figure it out, with the general response that either my crappy motherboard was dying or my video card. D: all my stuff. programs, files, etc. Nothing os'ey so it'd be relatively protected. important.
I, as do most, hate Windows Vista. Even after turning off the UAC and removing components that i found unnecessary, I still found problems. I much prefer Windows XP. Instead of manually removing components, security settings, etc., I decided just to remove Vista itself. I have searched and searched for a forum all over the internet and all i can find are threads about partitioning of about replacing vista on a laptop (which apparently has SATA driver problems or something to that effect). So I was wondering a few things: 1) Is there a way to install XP over Vista directly?
First of all is it worth my time or does vista have too many problems. my main concern is that i do not have the xp disc and if i want to go back to xp should i even bother.i do have the hp recovery tools disc for xp.
I found this forum and it solved the BSOD problem by autodetecting the hard drive. Yay, I finally got the Windows Setup screen. However my keyboard isn't recognized so I can't begin the install. It's a USB and I've tried it in other ports. When I pop out the cd, and start the pc normally, the keyboard works. Windows Vista won't start...I'm guessing because I have to change the drive configuration back to where it was. I really want this Vista gone
I decided to upgrade to Vista today from Windows Xp. Rather than doing the upgrade process, I decided to start off with a fresh format/install. after the first reboot in the Vista setup process (where Vista attempts to load data from the HDD) the system would just sit there after post as if the Vista loader couldn't properly detect the partition. I currently don't have time to troubleshoot the Vista problem with my system, so in desperation I have tried to go back to XP. I am able to boot into Windows XP setup, format the drive, and copy over the beginning essential files. However, after the system reboots after the initial copy of the data... XP is not capable of booting from the hard drive. this was not a problem before I tried to install Vista.
To check if a problem had occurred with the drive, I installed Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu is able to boot from the drive without any problems. However....... when Ubuntu loads grub, it detects the following on the MBR: The Vista loader appears to be preventing Windows XP from properly booting from the hard drive. The drive is a Western Digital 320gb. I have 30 gbs set aside for Windows to boot from. The rest of the drive is another partition with files I cannot afford to lose.
I have after gettting a new hp computer and XP is installed in it and I got a disc for vista professional with it too. If i wanted to install vista on my computer would all my files be deleted
I managed to create a new partition on my Compaq Presario C700 laptop and install XP. I am assuming that I need that driver and a whole bunch of other XP drivers as well. I have visited websites where they have a whole laundry list of drivers to download for my situation. Before I go through the painful process of downloading and installing all of them, I want to make sure this is really what I need to do.
I was informed the Windows XP does not work with Dual Core Processing systems, and that you need Vista in order to get the performance out of the 2nd core? is this true?

I'm trying to set up a dual-boot with Ubuntu and XP64. Initially I just had Ubuntu on my one sata hdd and XP on an ide hdd. I decided it'd be better running XP on the sata drive too, so I resized my linux partition with gparter, and created a new NTFS partition.The problem is, when I try to install XP onto the drive, it cannot seem to see the sata drive. Nothing was listed at all except the ide drives and my usb drive.I did some looking and found the 64 bit sata drivers for my motherboard, managed to load them onto a floppy and load them into the XP setup. This was all fine again until the time to select a partition, where it seemed to list the drive, but only shows 'Unknown disk' 'There is no disk in the drive'.I tried deleting the partition I made with gparter to see if XP could at least see the 'unallocated space' but to no avail.I even tried making a boot disk in nLite with the sata drivers, but it made no difference (not really surprisingly).If I try to use the 32 bit drivers that came with my mobo, it won't let me install XP.I'm all out of ideas to why it won't work.
