Downgrade From Vista

Dec 23, 2008

I've got a Lenovo X60 Tablet, which came preinstalled with XP. Last year I installed Vista Ultimate (OEM version), but of different reasons I do not want Vista anymore on my PC and want to downgrade to XP Tablet edition. I have now a XP Tablet edition that I want to install, but it crashes just after it have started the process.
PC is turned on, it boots from the USB CD-Rom drive, it starts to install the drivers, but when it comes to where it says "restarting windows", it crashes and gives me a blue screen telling me that the disk can be corrupted, should be checked for viruses etc. etc. This have happened three times now, and now I have been searching the internet for information of how to work around this. I haven't found any good sources yet and hoped some of you guys at this forum could help me out

Recovery Vista After Downgrade To XP

Aug 31, 2008

With all the threads providing help for people who want to downgrade their Vista OEM branded systems to XP, I'm wondering how you go back to Vista if desired using the recovery partition. In this particular case the computer in question is a Dell. I successfully installed Windows XP, but the MBR was obviously overwritten, so the F8 and F11 keys do not provide the option to access the recovery partition. I did some searching on the web, but I wasn't able to find a solution to this

Cannot Downgrade From Vista To And Installing Drivers

Oct 8, 2008

I recently put XP on a Compaq Presario C700 CTO that came preinstalled with Vista. I had to change some things in th Bios for Xp to install and now I need some drivers. Nothing is supported. I received links for various drivers someone told me i needed but none of them worked partly because i wasn't sure how to install them as the instructions were useless. The drivers I'm missing are Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus, Ethernet Controller, Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus, Sm Bus Controller, Video Controller, Video Controller (VGA Compatible), and one Unknown device which I think is my wireless (Atheros 06X Wireless Network Adapter). Any help as to how I can get these drivers installed and get XP working would be greatly appreciated.

HP Pavilion P6101f - Downgrade - Vista Home Premium To Pro

Jul 22, 2009

I bought an HP Pavilion p6101f that came with Vista Home Premium installed on it. I bought an OEM version of Windows XP Pro with the intention of downgrading the operating system. I was told that our network, which runs mostly XP Pro machines, might suffer problems if we installed a computer not running Vista - I guess mismatched OS's might pose problems. In any event, after I booted to Vista, I could not see an option to "Install" XP upon seeing the associated dialog box after inserting the disc while in the middle of a successful Vista session. I then tried to boot to the XP CD, in order to install XP and then restore the system.I kept getting the Blue-Screen of Death.

The computer will begin to boot Fedora (Linux), Windows 7 repair disk, and maybe some others - but not XP Pro.

I want to install Windows XP Pro on my buddy's computer that came with Vista, but I am physically incapable of doing so.

Run32dll.exe Error / After Vista Upgrade Advisor

Jul 1, 2008

I have a fresh install of XP SP2 on one of my drives, installed Sunday night. Drive was formatted first. Yesterday my boss told me that Microsoft had a "Vista Upgrade Advisor" to see if I could run Vista on my computer. I also had a fresh copy if IE7 with all the updates fresh installed from Microsoft.I downloaded the Advisor from Microsoft Download Center, started installing it, and had to install .NET framework to continue. There was another program that had to be ran first, I think it was the Microsoft Installer update. There were four choices, but there was no description to clue me in on which I needed. After installing the two, I then installed the Update Advisor. It gave me an error message like it was not correctly installed, please re-install. I went to Add/Remove Programs and got an error message like: run32dll.exe error This is not a valid Win32 application. All I could go into was My Computer. As of last night upon restart: my antivirus, IE7, all programs, all Control Panel programs, my CD and DVD burners, Comodo Firewall all give the same message. And I CAN'T uninstall the darn upgrade advisor!

At this point I am considering doing another fresh XP SP2 install, since I had not added any programs except for Avast, Comodo, IE7, and D-Link software. All programs are legal and downloaded from their respective official websites. I could not even run the XP installation CD to run a repair, or remove. F12 upon reboot is my option. But does anyone know why this happened? Or is there an easier way to fix this? I don't really think it is a virus unless the above mentioned websites has one.

Dual Boot Vista/XP - Vista/XP With My HP Media Center Purchased In 2007

Sep 17, 2009

I'm trying to make a dual boot system Vista/XP with my HP Media Center purchased in 2007 with Vista pre-installed. Inside Vista I created the partition for XP (disk D and rebooted with the 'XP Pro SP2' inside. After selecting its correct partition for installing it copies all files on hard disk and it reboots in order to start its installation, upon rebooting and starting first time from hard disk, it says that there is an error in the system and stops. If I install only XP on the system it works correctly even though some newest hardware is not recognized. I had already made a dual boot two years ago with a 2007 XP Student Edition and it smoothly. If it is due to the XP version being too old that maybe cannot deal with the boot record created by Vista
Or perhaps such an old XP cannot recognize a boot hard disk that is not C:?
Is there a way to bypass this point (perhaps fixing the boot record) in order to continue correctly the installation?
Thank you,
Al

Dual Boot With Vista - Currently Running Vista

Mar 3, 2008

I'm currently running Vista on a raid 0 array, and want to dual with XP. I have two partitions, one with vista and the other that I tried installing XP on. After it finishes the initial installation and restarts it says to press any key to boot from the CD. I wait without pressing anything and than it says that there was an error reading the disk. If I remember correctly, after it restarts it goes strait into windows setup. This happens every time I try restarting, but I can get back into vista by putting the hard drive to boot first. In vista I can see the other partition where XP was installed, and inside is just a folder titled WINDOWS and it seems like all the windows files are in there
