I recently downgraded my Gateway Notebook MT6841 (http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/...4584Rsp3.shtml) from Vista to XP.for obvious reasons.I was thrilled to find out that they dont supply drivers for the Mobo's Video card, audio, and modem drivers for XP.

video card on my laptop messed up somehow, i can see a exclamation mark on the device manager in the display drivers tab... now im searching to update my driver but cant find any sources that would suit xp windows now everything is very laggy cuz it shows im not using any video card or something like that anyway?
View 11 Replies View RelatedAfter the machine has been left alone for some time (at least long enough for the screen saver to kick in, which by default is set to 20 minutes, but the delay required may be more than that 20 minutes), you move the mouse or hit a key to clear the screen saver. The screen saver immediately goes away, leaving you with a blank desktop or blank wallpaper with a mouse pointer. At this point, you would expect to see a dialog box with the title "Computer Locked" that says "This computer is in use and has been locked. While it's in this state, the machine is not frozen: the mouse pointer will move, and the machine can be accessed over the network. If you wait long enough, which I've found to be on the order of 30-45 minutes or so, you will eventually see that "Computer Locked" dialog box, provided you move the mouse occasionally to prevent the screen saver from kicking in again.

For the run of the mill daily family pc it had been great! Now... when i bought this pc i ran the VISTA (<--- still leaves a bad taste in my mouth!!) home basic Operating system that came on it out of the box. After upgrading the 512MB of ram to 2GB and discovering vistas ram hungry method of operation... i chose like many others to downgrade to a more stable and familiar windows xp. I of course had friends that hooked me up with XP Black, Im sure you've heard of it by now. That runs on XP pro platform and ran great with the exception of the initial gathering drivers that seemed to not be available for my pc.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently put XP on a Compaq Presario C700 CTO that came preinstalled with Vista. I had to change some things in th Bios for Xp to install and now I need some drivers. Nothing is supported. I received links for various drivers someone told me i needed but none of them worked partly because i wasn't sure how to install them as the instructions were useless. The drivers I'm missing are Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus, Ethernet Controller, Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus, Sm Bus Controller, Video Controller, Video Controller (VGA Compatible), and one Unknown device which I think is my wireless (Atheros 06X Wireless Network Adapter). Any help as to how I can get these drivers installed and get XP working would be greatly appreciated.

I've scoured the internet for drivers, as Gateway only provides Vista drivers for my laptop. I've got just about everything working except for one item in Device Manager: "SM Bus Controller"
I've read this has to do with the chipset on the M/B. So I went to the AMD site, but don't know which download I need.
I took Vista Home off of my laptop computer (Compaq Presario CQ60-202US) but I can't find drivers that will work with XP. Can I find drivers that will solve my problem?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running the public beta 2 of Windows Vista x86 (32-bit version) on my PC--dual-booting with Windows XP SP2-- and I can't get my blasted Internet to work with it. Unfortunately, I haven't any way of running ethernet cable from my PC to the router--and so I need my wireless to work. The adapter is USB--a D-Link DWL-G120 wuireless card. It works fine as I'm using it now in XP SP2. My PC specs are listed in my sig.Anyone know of a driver that will work or any way to make this thing work with the Vista Beta 2 x86 build (public release)? I don't care if it only lets me use 802.11b--I just want a frikin driver that will allow me to test Vista's IE7 and such.

I have read around and can't find a solutions that seems like it should or would work for me. I have 3 hard drives 2 sata and 1 ide, the ide just has music mp3's. I've ran across some stuff on XP that just confused the hell out of me, and I'm sure some of this stuff is actually in dire need of changing. Seems like Microsoft likes to set all the settings in XP to the "stupid" ones, because after doing some tweaking of random things, stuff like download speeds and whatever go a lot faster.Also, I know this is either common knowledge or not official, but I'm dying to know the release date and price of Vista. When I boot from my XP disk, I press enter to install a new copy of XP, but then it says it cannot find a hard drive and setup cannot continue
I can't install my sound card and i don't know what make or model it is and i don't have a CD 4 it. I have only had the problem since i completely formatted my hard disk and re-installed XP home, I have looked around the XP disk and i can't find any folder 2 do with drivers. View 14 Replies View RelatedI've just reinstalled windows xp media center edition on my mams toshiba satalite a50 laptop but i cant get onto the internet using ethernet because i can't find the drivers well i goto install my bt home hub and it says i can only connect to the internet by using the usb wire and doesnt give me a option to use the internet throught the ethernet wire. so i install the usb drivers for the homehub and connect to the hub using usb then i went onto the toshiba website and downloaded the drivers so i could try and get my ethernet connection working but nothing seems to get it working plus my wireless connection doesnt work ther isnt anything on my computer that gives me a option to connect to the wireless network.

I replaced the storage drive...this had been the "first" drive and was labeled c: while the one running XP was labeled d:I installed the new drive and rebooted. In the process, the volume labels flipped: the primary drive became c: and the storage drive becoming d: This has thrown Windows into a world of confusion and all previously installed programs show up as uninstalled. They are still there in "program files" but many of them refuse to open, reporting not being able to find .dll files which I can search for and find on the computer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen the storm died down I booted the computer up and it made a series of "ca-click, ca-click" (that's pretty much exactly what it sounded like, too) noises. It ran slowly, but it managed to boot up. I ran all my programs normally, including logging into World of Warcraft. I got disconnect from the server (DSL hiccup, I think) and went to log back in. There's a bug in the game that sometimes causes computers to freeze on re-logging automatically into an instance. I could still hear ventrilo, but the monitor was frozen.
I told people I'd brb and pressed the power button. It rebooted and this time it made a LOT more clicking noises and paused at a black screen after the dell logo went away. After a few minutes it told me that one of my sys.dll files was missing and I needed to put in the windows disc and repair. Every time I subsequently restarted, a different file was supposedly missing. Sometimes it was NSFW and sometimes it was something else.

Trouble is, because Acer arent in ATI's list of approved venders or something, I cant install the ATI mobility drivers, OR indeed, the normal Radeon drivers.
