I have a Dell Dimension 5150, i've just done a re-install of XP as I was sick of it playing up - something was wrong but I couldn't figure it out. Anyway, Now I can't get anything to work cause I have no drivers, I mainly need the ethernet driver. Dell's website has NOTHING on it, there is only 1 download for this machine and it is for some stupid dell application. No drivers. I've looked all over the net

Let me go through what has happened and what I have done. My machine begun having BSOD just as it started to boot up saying that a device was unmountable. I run the util and run chkdsk to no joy. For the last five hours I have been tediously trying to reinstall XP, which you'd think would be a straightforward task, wrong!!!!! The motherboard only has one IDE so am unable to connect another hard drive before I tell you the problems I've had with the SATA. Trying to install XP home (have tried several different disks and SP's and also pro), requires no additional drivers and the setup runs well or so you think, it does the format, starts the copying of the setup files, but when it has to restart the computer this where it runs into problems. I get the following message 'Floppy Diskette Seek Failure', firstly there is no floppy disk installed in this system, secondly the BIOS is not set to boot to it, and even when I explicitly put only boot to SATA Drive it still displays this message which obviously means the XP installation can go no further.

Sometimes this computer will start, sometimes it wont When it doesnt, the On button just flashes orange, when it should be solid green. Sometimes it will start up and get to the log on screen and then just shut down and flash orange. It works fine when it does turn on. Iv been through the dell help and support stuff and that doesnt help

I purchased a faster used Dell Dimension 8400 3.6ghz hyperthreading 3gb RAM with XP Pro on it.My question is simple. My Dimension 2400 has an IDE hard drive and the 8400 has SATA. Rather than spend days re-installing and tweaking all of the programs on the 8400 I tried the following. I used Acronis Easy Migrate 7 to Image the IDE hard drive to the SATA hard drive and installed it into the 8400. It would not boot, I tried a repair install, then while booting I get a blue screen stop Error 0x0000007B. What do I have to do to fix this so it will boot?

I replaced the storage drive...this had been the "first" drive and was labeled c: while the one running XP was labeled d:I installed the new drive and rebooted. In the process, the volume labels flipped: the primary drive became c: and the storage drive becoming d: This has thrown Windows into a world of confusion and all previously installed programs show up as uninstalled. They are still there in "program files" but many of them refuse to open, reporting not being able to find .dll files which I can search for and find on the computer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen the storm died down I booted the computer up and it made a series of "ca-click, ca-click" (that's pretty much exactly what it sounded like, too) noises. It ran slowly, but it managed to boot up. I ran all my programs normally, including logging into World of Warcraft. I got disconnect from the server (DSL hiccup, I think) and went to log back in. There's a bug in the game that sometimes causes computers to freeze on re-logging automatically into an instance. I could still hear ventrilo, but the monitor was frozen.
I told people I'd brb and pressed the power button. It rebooted and this time it made a LOT more clicking noises and paused at a black screen after the dell logo went away. After a few minutes it told me that one of my sys.dll files was missing and I needed to put in the windows disc and repair. Every time I subsequently restarted, a different file was supposedly missing. Sometimes it was NSFW and sometimes it was something else.
I'm trying to find the drivers for this computer, the drivers on the hp site won't download and I can't find them anywhere.

Trouble is, because Acer arent in ATI's list of approved venders or something, I cant install the ATI mobility drivers, OR indeed, the normal Radeon drivers. Anyone have any way around this, or any other ideas.

Well recently the device started locking up the computer just as the computer finishes loading the drivers. I first thought it was the USB in the machine, but mice and keyboard both work in all the ports. I then thought it was the device but I tried it in another machine and it worked as it should. I tired plugging in a flash drive into the machine and it does the same thing.

The laptop has a Nvidia 8600M GS video card, and I cannot for the life of me find any drivers for the video card that work with XP. The drivers on Nvidia's website are not for laptops, and I have seen on other forums that there are driver issues with HP notebooks and XP.When I boot Windows XP, images load very slowly and my video card does not even show up in the device manager. Before the reinstall, I managed to track down this page on the Sony Asia website (http://www.sony-asia.com/support/dow...subpage=detail), and downloaded all of the listed drivers onto a memory stick. Having formatted the disk and installed Windows, I installed the drivers in the order listed on the website. They all worked perfectly, except for the Realtek audio driver.No sound was played by the computer, and when viewing the sound preferences under the Control Panel, I was informed that there is No Audio Device.

A small box pops up in my face and it says . . . windows must now shut down because the RPC service terminated. System shutdown initiated by NT/AUTHORITY then it counts down 60 sec and shuts off my computer. I have no control when it does this, i cannot X it out or make it stop. Very annoying. Sometimes it goes for hours and does not do anything, sometimes it will do it 3 times in 30 min. I have scanned for virus' and it comes up clear.

I am looking to upgrade the memory on my Dell Dimension 2400 to at least 512 mb. I have heard that you have to purchase a specific kind of ram (dell certified?) and that it won't just use any kind of brand. Is this true? If so, can someone point me in the right direction.I know that it must be DDR PC2700/333 but I'm unclear as to which brand to buy.I spoke with Dell and hung up unclear (she spoke very poor english) so really got nowhere.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Dimension 8200 desktop running WinXP Home however It won't boot to the hard drive. I replaced the drive with a known working one and it still doesn't boot, says Diskette Drive 0 Not Found, however I figured that was referring to the floppy drive. Tried switching the ide cables around and that didn't work either. The power supply is working, as well as all of the fans. Its running a 1700mh processor. Cd-Rom works fine, and I can boot to a CD, I can browse the files if I boot to Knoppix, however it simply won't boot to the Hard Drive. I ran FixMbR and FixBoot in the recovery console, to no avail. Bios is configured properly, and I haven't touched the jumpers. Just to be sure I tried the hard drive in another system, and it wouldn't boot in that one either. Might be the mother board?
