So I think I was affected by the SP3 update. I went out and got another harddrive to reinstall on since the other harddrive wouldn't even boot up. I can format the disc and the setup files load and then the system does the reboot. But after it reboots it ask me if I want to install XP and it takes me through the prompts of which drive I want to partition.
View 13 RepliesI've setup Windows 2003 fax services on a W2K3 server and shared the device. I've tested faxing from Word on my PC and it works fine.However, when other users try to install the fax client, the setup hangs asking for the fx* setup files. I've tried different XPSP2 CDs, copying the files to a local directory, making sure that the users have local admin rights (and even domain admin rights) but to no avail. The files are already in the system32 directory so in theory the setup doesn't even need to copy them. Even if I delete them, it doesn't work.Our corporate SMS team reckons that there isn't any policy which could
cause the problem.
I got a new SATA 320 GB hard drive today, since my other one died. I setup the drivers for it with help of the Windows XP disc, and start to install Windows.
I get to the part where I enter the product key, and I get a prompt that it is invalid. I have entered the key at least 40 times to make sure I haven't mistyped it. I have looked at the Windows Support page and search around

View 13 Replies View Relatedok i am trying to install drivers for my scanner. tech support from the scanner manufacturer said i need to delete the twain*.dll and twunk*.dll files. i try deleteing them and the return without me doing anything. is there a way to permently delete them so i can install the new ones? if need more info i will supply. if this is a security issue instead of xp i will post there but thought i would try here first.
View 1 Replies View RelatedGot new parts for PC upgrade. All parts new (including cables) but recycled HDD and DVD/CD-ROM.All bits connected and powered up last night in about 10 mins. Put Windows XP CD in, went into setup/ reformat process then PC needed rebooting to continue with Windows setup. Fine. or so I thought. rebooted, went into "Please press any key to boot from CD". IF pressed any key, went through the whole reformat, copy setup files etc. ELSE, just hangs on that screenie. No error messages or anything!Seems to me like it's gone into a loop, and not running the Windows set-up files copied into the HDD.

While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?

The install went fine, when I looked at my drives in admin tools the C is marked boot and E system, I was going to delete E and make new partitions, but because it marked as system, can not delete it.How did I do this and is there away to put it all back onto C, without reformatting

View 7 Replies View RelatedHave a friend with a really screwed up hard drive; need to reformat C: and do a clean Win XP reinstall. Am not familiar with the way HP sets up their computers with C: and D: partitions, the D: partition being the "recovery" partition. I first thought I could use that to restore the HD to what was there when the computer was purchased in 2005, but it appears that the only items in the recovery partition are the original application programs and drivers -- no Windows OS.
So, my first question is, have I missed/am not seeing that Windows IS on the recovery partition and that running the recovery program will wipe C: clean and reinstall everything INCLUDING Windows XP. . . or will it just reinstall the original applications and drivers, but leave everything else as is?
2nd question: If the recovery partition does not include Windows, will I encounter any problems if I reformat C: to wipe it clean and reinstall XP from a genuine MS Win XP CD, then use the recovery partition to reinstall the original applications and drivers?
compaq 4000 seris computer.celeron 1.4 256 of pc 133 ram. 20gig harddrive.Its running windows xp and they use the aol dial up service 8.0 ( they dont like 9.0).Now they said they had some spyware or something on the machine. i told them to run adaware and see if that would do it. Little did i know that they had aboutblank hack. well i *with some help from the nice guys at the boreds here* fixed that but now her aol internet wiill not work. So to fix some of the other things wrong with her pc i was ganna bring it to my house and use my charter broadband internet to use on the machine. Well the eithernet card the pc allready had installed is a SMZ EZ Card 10/100 pci (SMC1211TX).
Windows will not load the driver for this card makeing the use of my net impossible... its the code 31, windows cannot load the drivers for this device. Ive tired everything from unistalling the driver, reinstalling, updateing everything. then when i looked at the driver details it is trying to use a realtek driver for the card? I need some serous help here guys and i really appreciate it. Ive tried all i can think of to get it to work so i dont have to bug you all.
I?m trying to run a repair on my friends Compaq Presario 1245 but I have a strange problem. Every time I boot into setup, it will load the setup files and then just try to start windows up. The setup program will boot from the CD, load the drivers and whatnot, but instead of going into the actual setup process (where you can install a clean copy, repair etc), it just tries to boot to Windows automatically (Which doesn?t work).I've tried it even with a Windows 2003 CD and the same thing happens. I have went and reset the bios to their factory settings just in case for a session but that doesn't seem to be the problem (the CMOS battery is dead anyways). I was told the CMOS battery being dead might be the problem but its never really been and issue for me before when Ive worked on laptops (with dead CMOS batteries)

I reformatted with the Seagate disk and tried a different winxp disk to install same thing, it hangs at asking for third party adapter software. Any ideas?
Winxp, 160gig SATA seagate, 1gig of ram biostar mobo. It all worked fine until I lost that file now I cant even reload windows!

I was curious how everyone else splits up their drive. How big of a partition is generally created for the OS. And do most people partition the remaining space.Now a file architecture question. When non OS applications games, utilities, MS Office, etc.) are installed do most people put then in D:Program Files Or create separate sub-folders for the broad categories and install them in the appropriate sub folder.

had the dual boot workin' fine. but whenever i checked in on ol' win98 i got the error message about...whatever. i didnt care cause i never did have a case wher i needed it. so i just always booted to the winxp, which was the second partitioned, named E: and i figuerd one day i would just lose that win98 and make the whole drive winxp. the occassion arose when E: winxp wouldnt boot, error: corrupted system file. it seemed like a "good day to die" so i loaded win xp (pro) into that first partition, C:,and it just fit but with little room to spare. in fact,not enough to do anything, including loading antivirus. i acn still read everything on the E: logical partition, but i dont get to boot from there. i have a couple big eexternal HDD's oneon that machine, the desktype machine (250GB) and one on the laptop (400GB) which runs win xp. i can resort to moving things around, probably having to re-install a lot, but i have tried re-sizing the C: and E:,using Partition Magic (8.0) to no avail. it makes no changes. i've tried enlarging C: to use up the unused space in E:. when i re-boot,nothing has changed. tried merging the partitions, error is differnt cluster sizes, one is 2k, the other 4k. have tried to change the cluster sizes both ways. still no change.
I loaded Keperksy virus programme from PC user disc and the next time I turned my lapptop on it loaded and came up to a logon screen for windows xp. I have never had this screen come up before in the 4 years that I have owned it. I have tried escape, enter, all the passwords that I use and noting has worked. I have tried all the usernames and even the previous persons username and all I can get is the desktop screen with no icons on it, if you know what I mean. I downloaded boot discs and can load to the A: prompt, I can change this to C: and even Windows but the only command that seems to work is Dir. how to get my PC back to normal. I have tried to boot using F8 in safemode but when it loads it goes to the logon screen. It loads Windows for about 10 seconds and then logs out. I have no original discs for using to reload windows xp. It is the Kaspersky programme that has altered something. I cannot get into my PC setup to type regedit at the run command.

It is one of those "pre-loaded" machines with 2 partitions (one for OS; other for backup). The operating system is XP Home and plenty of bloatware. I don't plan on doing anything fancy with the machine - just some basic stuff like maybe a music server, check email, I would like to do a clean install with Windows XP SP2 (primarily to get rid of the partitions, bloatware, and upgrade OS).

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a 20 gb NTFS drive that i partitioned to C: 6gb for system files and E: 14gb for programs. I have a second hard drive for data I: 40gb. The C: drive is getting full. when trying to defragment C:, the report shows a bunch of fragmented files in a path called "/RECYCLED". I cannot seem to find that path anywhere on that drive, so I cannot delete those files! Any advice? I also would like to resize the partitions, will QTparted work for NTFS partitions? OR, any chance I can move my system to the 40gb I: drive (probably not).

On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. I have been trying to install a RAID setup and I can't get past the windows installation. I have set up the BIOS correctly and I've tried using 2 different RAID floppys and still won't setup. I start the windows installation and at the F6 prompt I press the F6, when it asks for the drivers I press S and first load the Nvidia RAID driver and then again I load the Nvidia storage driver as per instructions and the installation goes until it starts the windows set up and stops right there. If I only load the Nvidia Raid driver then the set will start. The second floppy I tried using was for SATARAID floppy. Same result If I load the Nvidia SATA storage driver then It stops at Windows installation setup. I have tried installing a bootable setup and a nonbootable with no luck.
View 14 Replies View Relatedive got a few setup.exe files which i try and run on my pc and they load up hnag and then finish. i opened task manage to monitor and they got to 28% cpu usage etc then back to 0 then eventually just go as the rpogram stops running.they are computer vst programs to run in my cubase sequencerand the tech suppport from the company (not saying who)is poor, but its also done it with some other apps i downloaded as well. cheked em for virus with Trend 12. nothing wrong.

All my programs had to be reinstalled because Windows did not acknowledge they were there. All 23 of them work fine. Here's where I ran into a problem. I use a Matrox G200 Quad card with TV Tuner. I downloaded and installed the software for the card and that too is fine. When I download the software for the TV part of the card to work, I double click on the unzipped set up file and it starts working, that gets to the part where it says "Preparing to Install" then it just disappears. It worked before the reinstall of windows.How can i figure it out.
