SP2 Home Setup - Cannot Install The Drivers
Aug 20, 2006
I got a new SATA 320 GB hard drive today, since my other one died. I setup the drivers for it with help of the Windows XP disc, and start to install Windows.
I get to the part where I enter the product key, and I get a prompt that it is invalid. I have entered the key at least 40 times to make sure I haven't mistyped it. I have looked at the Windows Support page and search around

I purchased a SIIG PCI firmware adapter. It has no drivers and says that it will use Win XP drivers. Well I installed the board and booted the pc, Win XP
recognized the hardware but could not find any drivers. I tried unplugging it manually, installing it in another card slot with no luck. I took it back to
my pc dealer and he plugged it in his system and had no problems. I decide to try another brand, an IO Gear GIC1394.

So I think I was affected by the SP3 update. I went out and got another harddrive to reinstall on since the other harddrive wouldn't even boot up. I can format the disc and the setup files load and then the system does the reboot. But after it reboots it ask me if I want to install XP and it takes me through the prompts of which drive I want to partition.

I've setup Windows 2003 fax services on a W2K3 server and shared the device. I've tested faxing from Word on my PC and it works fine. However, when other users try to install the fax client, the setup hangs asking for the fx* setup files. I've tried different XPSP2 CDs, copying the files to a local directory, making sure that the users have local admin rights (and even domain admin rights) but to no avail. The files are already in the system32 directory so in theory the setup doesn't even need to copy them. Even if I delete them, it doesn't work. Our corporate SMS team reckons that there isn't any policy which could
cause the problem.

HI, I just installed windows 2000 professional onto my computer. Everything works fine except that the resolution is really grainy. On some web sites I cannot even make out what the words are. I found out that when I go into my monitor settings in display properties I am unable to install the drivers for my monitor. Does anybody know a way in which I can get around this.

I'm trying to get a new usb mouse to work on it, and I have the drivers for it - but when installing the 'new hardware', it reaches a point wherein it asks to insert the "Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM", but I don't have one! It won't allow me to skip this, and if I click cancel, the mouse isn't installed, and an error window appears saying that an error occured during the new hardware's installation.

Alrighty everyone, I believe there have been a few posts about this in other forums ect.. But I would like to here this from the experts here, and personal experiences. I have a Giga-byte K8NXP-SLI motherboard (yeah I know, I realize my mistake now...), and this board has an Nforce 4 SLI chipset. I do use the SATA-II/SATA-3G connection on the board, I run two 300GB Maxtor Diamondmax 10 SATA drives. I have installed the Nforce 4 SATA-Floppy F6 drivers on the XP install and now have not nearly as many issues as before with this chipset

Both cd-roms: LG cd-rom & Liteon cdrw have stopped reading disks. Both are plug/play, using xp drivers. They are recognized by explorer,no issues according to the device driver. Both spin up, but won't read disk. In win explorer, selecting the LG cd-rom produces a red X: E: is not accessible, incorrect function The Lite-on did the same thing, until I downloaded/installed the firmware from the mfg. Not it acts like it is at least looking at the disk, but it doesn't see anything. Is there anyway to re-install the xp drivers (remember I can't read a CD)? Do you think I could re-install the xp drivers

I have two computers, one I use for gaming, the other for school. Both computers had 60gb Maxtor (school with lots of room, gaming with about 10 gb free). My school HD took a powder (the evil clicky noise of doom), but I was able to back up my files prior to that. Me being a quick thinker, I decide to upgrade my gamer puter to a 120gb (don't wanna go too nutso, as I am considering building a much superior computer), and put the good 60 gb in my old Athlon 700. Problem? I cannot get Windows XP Home to complete install on my gamer computer. (Athlon 700 installed just fine with 'good' 60gb).Gamer Computer: Athlon 1800+, 512MB DDR Ram 2100, KR7A Raid MOBO, GeForce3 Ti 200 (128MB DDR RAM), SB Audigy 2(AGP).
It is a RAID mobo, but i do not use the raid functionality, I did not have a problem before(I have my HD and my 2 roms on ide now). I go through the install steps, and I get to the very very end, where it states you are about to start Windows XP, and then it hangs, and thats it.I have tried to ensure there are no conflicts, I pulled out my sound card as well as my network card, and 're-seated' my video card and RAM. I have tried looking at using a winxp bootup floppy, booted into safe mode (the only error it detects is the missing RAID, no conflicts detected there). Heck, I even swapped out mouse and keyboard. I tried putting back the good 60gb back in the pc, and reformatting, but still get the same thing(sometimes the screen is black, sometimes the icky blue of xp, but that's it).I have no idea now. I did make sure that my bios was up to date before taking down the system originally, and it was, so no change was made there. Even swapped out the ribbon cables to ensure nothing was damaged on original removal.

I have been trying to install a RAID setup and I can't get past the windows installation. I have set up the BIOS correctly and I've tried using 2 different RAID floppys and still won't setup. I start the windows installation and at the F6 prompt I press the F6, when it asks for the drivers I press S and first load the Nvidia RAID driver and then again I load the Nvidia storage driver as per instructions and the installation goes until it starts the windows set up and stops right there. If I only load the Nvidia Raid driver then the set will start. The second floppy I tried using was for SATARAID floppy. Same result If I load the Nvidia SATA storage driver then It stops at Windows installation setup. I have tried installing a bootable setup and a nonbootable with no luck.

I am using Windows XP Professional, service pack 1 is installed. A few days ago the PC would not boot up. I had to reinstall Win XP Pro. All my programs had to be reinstalled because Windows did not acknowledge they were there. All 23 of them work fine. Here's where I ran into a problem. I use a Matrox G200 Quad card with TV Tuner. I downloaded and installed the software for the card and that too is fine. When I download the software for the TV part of the card to work, I double click on the unzipped set up file and it starts working, that gets to the part where it says "Preparing to Install" then it just disappears. It worked before the reinstall of windows. How can i figure it out.

So a few days ago I began re-installing XP on my laptop. Unfortunately I didn't realise that I'd grabbed the wrong installation CD, and instead of installing XP Pro sp2, I was installing XP Home sp1. This shouldn't have been problematic however I couldn't find the product key for it to continue the installation process, so I had to abort the installation.
However, now when I try to install XP pro sp2 (by booting from the CD drive) it goes straight to the point that i previously aborted from and gives me an error message stating something along the lines of "you've inserted the wrong CD, insert the right CD and press continue". I can't seem to get it to start the install process from the beginning

I am trying to install XP Pro on a machine with an AMD K6 clocked at 266mhz and 160mb of RAM. This is a laptop currently running Windows 98 SE. 98 works fine for me but I hate installing drivers. The laptop is an Compaq Presario 1235. I just want the laptop running XP, it doesn't have to be lightning fast. In setup, it hangs at Setup is Starting Windows. It does the same when installing Win2k.

I recently went through a "Blond Moment". I decided I was going to update my SIS IDE Driver on my computer. I downloaded the newest drivers from my motherboard manufacturer, saved them to file in the C: drive Now, here is the blond moment:
I uninstalled the old sis IDE driver (rather than changing it to standard IDE driver) and it prompted me to reboot on completion.(Blond again) I clicked yes, I meant to install the new driver before doing this, but I didn't read it right so the computer rebooted. Now on boot up I get a BSOD. It basically asks me to check my hard drive (which I know is good, its new) or reinstall the IDE drivers (which I don't know how to do outside windows) or run a virus scan (done) to be sure that isn't causing the error.I went into recovery console with hopes to restore the SIS or standard IDE Driver, but Im lost, and don't know how to do that exactly. Is there anyone who knows how to install these drivers (remember I cant boot to windows safe or otherwise)OR Should I just do a repair install and will that even fix this dumb thing Ive done?

I recently purchased a Western Digital laptop hard drive for my HP Presario X1015US laptop - and got the part where it said : Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on my computer. I have tried two new drives now and it is simply not getting past this point. I have gone in to the bios to ensure it is booting from Windows Operating System CD and it is still not finding. HP told me I have to check motherboard? Is there anything else I can do or am I going to need to buy a new laptop (the old hard drive is no longer working...started making weird noise).

I have used the search facility to try and find a result to this problem but alas to no avail.I have had XP pro in this desktop before so I know it's compatible. Recently I decided to upgrade to Vista but decided that it wasn't for me and have tried to downgrade back to XP.On first try with XP pro setup bootdisk I got by said problem and got to the format/partition bit but got error message saying unable to load operating system half way through install. I figured it could be because i didn't set up boot in bios properly using bootup selector instead and upon restart during install it tried to boot from hd.
So restarted and sorted bios selection out but now get this wierd problem, being on ANY install disk of XP (I have a few) it jams after "setup is inspecting your computers hardware" i.e. blank screen and nothing happening. I've tried unplugging everything and leaving only cd-rom, hard-drive and monitor/keyboard/gfx card and mouse connected but all to no avail. The drive I'm trying to install to is a samsung 150gb hard drive partitioned to 20gb and 130gb respectively with data still on the 130gb section that i'd like to keep. The most interesting thing is that the Vista disk that I have installs fine without problem which is how I'm writing this.
