I?m trying to run a repair on my friends Compaq Presario 1245 but I have a strange problem. Every time I boot into setup, it will load the setup files and then just try to start windows up. The setup program will boot from the CD, load the drivers and whatnot, but instead of going into the actual setup process (where you can install a clean copy, repair etc), it just tries to boot to Windows automatically (Which doesn?t work).I've tried it even with a Windows 2003 CD and the same thing happens. I have went and reset the bios to their factory settings just in case for a session but that doesn't seem to be the problem (the CMOS battery is dead anyways). I was told the CMOS battery being dead might be the problem but its never really been and issue for me before when Ive worked on laptops (with dead CMOS batteries)
i want to install an application on my system, but the setup does not come in a good setup format. That is, when i click the file it normally ask me to select what i want to use to open the file, which is wrong for a setup. Please help me on what to do to my operating system
So I think I was affected by the SP3 update. I went out and got another harddrive to reinstall on since the other harddrive wouldn't even boot up. I can format the disc and the setup files load and then the system does the reboot. But after it reboots it ask me if I want to install XP and it takes me through the prompts of which drive I want to partition.
My computer was missing a system file after restarting one day. I inserted winxp disk to repair I would boot from it but the setup would wouldn't ever load anything. I reformatted with the Seagate disk and tried a different winxp disk to install same thing, it hangs at asking for third party adapter software. Any ideas? Winxp, 160gig SATA seagate, 1gig of ram biostar mobo. It all worked fine until I lost that file now I cant even reload windows!
I loaded Keperksy virus programme from PC user disc and the next time I turned my lapptop on it loaded and came up to a logon screen for windows xp. I have never had this screen come up before in the 4 years that I have owned it. I have tried escape, enter, all the passwords that I use and noting has worked. I have tried all the usernames and even the previous persons username and all I can get is the desktop screen with no icons on it, if you know what I mean. I downloaded boot discs and can load to the A: prompt, I can change this to C: and even Windows but the only command that seems to work is Dir. how to get my PC back to normal. I have tried to boot using F8 in safemode but when it loads it goes to the logon screen. It loads Windows for about 10 seconds and then logs out. I have no original discs for using to reload windows xp. It is the Kaspersky programme that has altered something. I cannot get into my PC setup to type regedit at the run command.
I need to get into my CMos settings but when i try it comes up wanting a password and either i dopn't remember it or I got some virus that put it there so I can't get into it. Is there a way to bypass the password for getting in the Cmos
my pc today decided to go black screen right after the Win XP loading screen the one with the blue dots crossing the screen. right when Windows User select screen WOULD load the screen goes black, still on because the monitor never sleeps but black. Safemode and last known config work either, safe mode fails at the loading of .sys files. I have reset the CMOS, tried a new gfx card, and diff things no luck sill.
my ps2 and usb keyboard wont work in the bios. the pins are fine, the computers brand new, its plugged in all the way. ive already tried to clear cmos, but it still doesnt work
When I press button it starts, light on button comes on and fan runs but thats it Normally at start fan is very loud for about 3 seconds then It seems to switch something and goes quieter and eveything comes on. Now when fanstats you can here a small ticking sound ..like something trying to do something..if you know what I mean.It will not turn monitor on either. When i go to boot a pc(my friends), it come up and shows the emachines logo screen then it shows the windows xp loading screen but then the screen goes black and nothing happens.so i restart it and a screen comes up that says the CMOS and Video BIOS are shadowed.i treid removing the battery from the motherboard for 5 mins and still same problem.
MOtherboard is asus K8S-MX, everytime i boot it says CMOS battery low, date and time not set. I have changed many batteries. What I am now trying is to get date and time off a server upon startup. The problem is windows xp won't synchronise with time servers if date does not match! For security reasons, windows can not synchronize with the server because your date does not match. Please fix the date and try again.
My clock problem is that it seems to run at a snails pace. It will lose as much as 6 or 7 hours overnight. I've replaced the cmos battery a couple of times, with no success at all.
My system setup:AMD 64 3200+ (skt 939) ASUS A8V-VM SE1GB DDR RAM XFX GeForce 6600 Vanilla PCIE (256 MB) Windows XP Pro SP2 I don't know what I did.. ( I reset the CMOS battery on my mobo..)After around one minute from booting into XP , my system freezes..What could be the issue ??And the next time, on startup, Scandisk comes and stops at 6% in one of my drives (bad sectors?? )
First my computer was cutting off in the middle of any program. I decided to delete everything on the drive and reformat it and reload windows xp. While trying to load windows xp it would load the set up but when going to load files it locked up everytime. I tried also loading windows 98, 95 and they too locked up. At one point it said I had a virus in my boot sector and at another time it said I had a virus in my RAM. I got a program called PC Beginner to help partition my drive and redo the MBR. I can partition the drive and format it but windows still doesn't load. Now I wonder if there is a problem with the mother board and I have a dual bios board, I was wonder if there is a program loaded in the dual bios that may somehow causing my problem. If so what can be done to clear the problem? How can I get windows reloaded?
i have a 20 gig hd (maxtor) that is not showing in windows xp. the drive is NTFS and is fine and does show in cmos but once loaded into windows it is not there. i had the drive previously in another system as a slave only for mp3's. It was formatted NTFS prior to transferring mp3's to it. Now i've tried it as both master and slave to get the files off but am now having this problem of windows not seeing it when i go into windows explorer
having trouble with the mobo CMOS settings and ended up rmaing the mobo and the memory. Well i got the new mobo and memory is it loads. When it goes to load XP it gets NTLDR not found or something to that degree and says press ctrl+alt+del to restart. My hd has a partial install of xp and i havent been able do the full install. Was wondering how to do the full install now. I tried popping the xp cd in and it doesnt read it, it just gives me the NTLDR message and wont do anything.
The computer takes my password to sign in and I get a message "a problem with the hard drive has been detected consult with the troubleshooting section of your user manual.Hit enter to continue. Then I get the gateway picture and it says hit F4 to continue. It just freezes.
I have had an Acer Aspire 5670 for about 2 years. This morning, it was making a horrible noise (I left it on overnight and couldn't hear the noise until I went into my office). It sounded like a fan or spinning noise of some kind, but also might have been an audio file that was stuck repeating the first tenth of a second of the track. In any event, the monitor was dark and the PC was totally nonresponsive. I did a hard reboot and since then, the PC has not worked. The power button does turn it on and I can hear the HDD spinning and the DVD/CD drive looking for a disc (and it will accept/eject discs) but the screen never comes on and the PC doesn't seem to boot up. I don't ever hear the Windows welcome .wav file. how should i fix the problem?
I've got an HP Pavilion ze4400 on which the touchpad doesn't work. I can't be sure whether it's a faulty device or if drivers aren't installed. In Control Panel, under Mouse, Hardware, only one device (the USB mouse I'm using) shows up. I'm not sure what the standard touchpad driver for HP notebooks is. Going through the Add Hardware Wizard and telling XP that the device is already installed, it then gives me a list of installed hardware to select from. I don't know what that driver is, if it's even in there. what the driver is this
I have a (really) old Compaq Armada M300 running Win2K Pro. It was given to me several years ago from a buddy who upgraded. Old, slow, not much space, but we use it daily as an extremely convenient 'dummy terminal' to get to the internet & work on documents/files on the desktop upstairs.Yesterday afternoon, while nobody was working on it, it suddenly attempted to restart. Just a quirk that I thought wouldn't matter. Wrong it is now stuck in a never-ending cycle of restarting compaq intro screen, then windows startup screen, then an extremely quick blue screen that flashes too quickly for me to even see what it's saying, then restarts all over.I've tried all various ways to start in setup (safe mode, safe mode w/ networking, etc), all different options produce the same result.Since it was given to me on a whim so many years ago, I don't have the install CD, nor do I have a boot disk for it. According to what I've found, I need the CD to create a win2K boot disk.
I turned on my computer and everything was fine, but realized husband had unplugged the dsl last night due to possible incoming storms. So I replugged in the dsl and as usual when this happens have to reboot my computer to get it to realize its there. So I went to start ..shut down..restart and did it. And it never came back. After about 5 min of it just sitting there I went ahead and pushed in the restart button on the machine. It makes its usual start up noise and the lights all come on except now there is a strange clicking noise I do not recognize and the cd rom seems to hang a bit, then the lights go off (as usual) except for the power light. But nothing comes up on the screen and no sounds are to be heard from the speakers. I now shut it all down and let it sit for about 20 min then retry still nothing. So I open the case up and check all the wires and with a can of air blow away any dust.
When I turn on my computer, it starts up like it's supposed to. Then, when it comes to the Windows XP loading page (you know, the one with the bar scrolling underneath it), it suddenly goes to a Blue Screen of Death for a straight millisecond, then reboots again. Then my computer gives me 5 options. I could load Windows at the previous settings that worked, load Windows normally, and there were three other options that involved loading Windows in safe mode. I've tried all five. All five result in the computer rebooting itself again. There was a timer below for 20 seconds for me to choose an option, so I doubt that it's a worm causing this problem. My antivirus is up-to-date and I do regular scans. I have a firewall. It couldn't have been a power surge, because I have a power strip on the computer, and it says that it's protected. And, before all of this was happening (a few minutes before), my computer was acting normally. There wasn't anything funky going on, so I doubt that my hard drive was dead.
Alright the Problem is, when I start the computer the key board and mouse are working just fine both showing lights and I can access the boot menu and everything through the key board. But when windows boots up both the mouse and the keyboard go dead, and there is nothing I can do besides looking at the User Login Screen as I can not use ether my mouse or keyboard.
compaq computer has bit the dust and I'm building her a new one. Her original 20GB harddrive won't boot up in the new system....it gets to where the XP colored window flashes, goes to a blue screen of death screen, but that blinks out so quickly that I can't read it or pause it, and the computer reboots itself. It won't boot into safemode either. thought the harddrive was dead since I could hear it click at that point
My laptop won't even turn on. It's a Dell 700m just purchased 2 years ago. It is in mint condition and even with the charger plugged in, it won't turn on. I held the button down over 3 minutes and nothing yet. Took battery off, waited a few then still nothing. It looks like a dead HD?
Recently took some hits on my Compaq Presario 7478 system. Got two or three nasties via the 'Net. After McAfee's virus scan and removal, began experiencing weird happenings, such as system closing down and restarting. Then just not starting. Tried a few remedies [probably inadvisedly], and finally the system seemed to hang on my restore at the same place repeatedly.Ultimately the system could no longer establish my OS. Restore failed. Bottom line: Could not invoke computer restore. Could do nothing with this computer.Q... Being compaq is the BIOS set to a certain condition that would prevent my reformatting the hard drive and restablishing an OS? Is this an option I can override? If I were to piggy-back the existing hard drive onto an operating hard-drive and reformat would that solve this problem and permit me to then create or repair the hard drive subsequently to get my compaq back?
My hard drive died on me recently. I bought a new one, put the jumper on master and put the dead hard drive on slave hoping to retrieve the files that were stored on it, but my computer won't recognize it. I checked the cable connections and they seem to be fine. When I put another good hard drive on slave the computer does recognize it. Could I still somehow retreive the files from the old hard drives or did I lose them for good?
The mother board of my hp laptop died. I have another laptop (Dell). Any ideas how I can transfer the data on the hard disk of the old hp to the new Dell?
