My clock problem is that it seems to run at a snails pace. It will lose as much as 6 or 7 hours overnight. I've replaced the cmos battery a couple of times, with no success at all.
When I press button it starts, light on button comes on and fan runs but thats it Normally at start fan is very loud for about 3 seconds then It seems to switch something and goes quieter and eveything comes on. Now when fanstats you can here a small ticking sound ..like something trying to do something..if you know what I mean.It will not turn monitor on either. Is it possible that the cmos battery has died ? I really need help here .,even though I have this laptop I likemy desktop better
MOtherboard is asus K8S-MX, everytime i boot it says CMOS battery low, date and time not set. I have changed many batteries. What I am now trying is to get date and time off a server upon startup. The problem is windows xp won't synchronise with time servers if date does not match! For security reasons, windows can not synchronize with the server because your date does not match. Please fix the date and try again.
every once in a while i will notice that my pc clock is a few hours behind, the minute is almost always right, but even that will vary +/- 5 minutes or so. this isnt a huge problem, but i was wondering if it might be an indication that i need to install a new battery on my motherboard?
I have Windows XP Pro and for some reason, when I try to bring up my task manager, it apperes for a second and then disapers as if it were never there. What can I do to fix this problim?
Whenever I open explorer (not IE) and attempt to delete files I get a box saying: Runtime Error! Program: C:WINDOWSexplorer.exe abnormal program termination (OK). If I click the explorer window the dialogue box disappears behind the explorer window and I can continue deleting files etc. However when I finally click the (OK) in the error box, All the Icons on my desktop disappear for about 15 seconds and then reappear as if nothing is wrong. But sometimes the icons do not reappear and then I have to use the Ctl-Alt-Del method to restart the computer. What is happening and how can I fix it without reinstalling windows XP SP2.
I recently updated my pc from windows update, it was a update to SP2 from the sp1 I have, anyways when I did that and restarted the thing my whole desktop disapeared, so I restored mp pc back to what I had before but now it boots up really slow, it takes over 1 minute to get through the screen before "Log in" that says "windows is starting up", it used to take just a few seconds.
I have two files that are sitting on my desktop. They came from a friend via gmail and I have scanned them for viruses. They are reported as being 0 kb in size and are grayed out. When I choose to hide system files in Explorer's view settings they disappear. I cannot delete them at all. I have tried deleting them via safe mode, with a program called movonboot and many other ways.as to how to get rid of these annoying files without reformatting?

I need to get into my CMos settings but when i try it comes up wanting a password and either i dopn't remember it or I got some virus that put it there so I can't get into it. Is there a way to bypass the password for getting in the Cmos
my pc today decided to go black screen right after the Win XP loading screen the one with the blue dots crossing the screen. right when Windows User select screen WOULD load the screen goes black, still on because the monitor never sleeps but black. Safemode and last known config work either, safe mode fails at the loading of .sys files. I have reset the CMOS, tried a new gfx card, and diff things no luck sill.

My system setup:AMD 64 3200+ (skt 939) ASUS A8V-VM SE1GB DDR RAM XFX GeForce 6600 Vanilla PCIE (256 MB) Windows XP Pro SP2 I don't know what I did.. ( I reset the CMOS battery on my mobo..)After around one minute from booting into XP , my system freezes..What could be the issue ??And the next time, on startup, Scandisk comes and stops at 6% in one of my drives (bad sectors?? )
I?m trying to run a repair on my friends Compaq Presario 1245 but I have a strange problem. Every time I boot into setup, it will load the setup files and then just try to start windows up. The setup program will boot from the CD, load the drivers and whatnot, but instead of going into the actual setup process (where you can install a clean copy, repair etc), it just tries to boot to Windows automatically (Which doesn?t work).I've tried it even with a Windows 2003 CD and the same thing happens. I have went and reset the bios to their factory settings just in case for a session but that doesn't seem to be the problem (the CMOS battery is dead anyways). I was told the CMOS battery being dead might be the problem but its never really been and issue for me before when Ive worked on laptops (with dead CMOS batteries)
i have a 20 gig hd (maxtor) that is not showing in windows xp. the drive is NTFS and is fine and does show in cmos but once loaded into windows it is not there. i had the drive previously in another system as a slave only for mp3's. It was formatted NTFS prior to transferring mp3's to it. Now i've tried it as both master and slave to get the files off but am now having this problem of windows not seeing it when i go into windows explorer
having trouble with the mobo CMOS settings and ended up rmaing the mobo and the memory. Well i got the new mobo and memory is it loads. When it goes to load XP it gets NTLDR not found or something to that degree and says press ctrl+alt+del to restart. My hd has a partial install of xp and i havent been able do the full install. Was wondering how to do the full install now. I tried popping the xp cd in and it doesnt read it, it just gives me the NTLDR message and wont do anything.
ive just brought this pc about a month ago,it had windows vista basic home os,i didnt like it,i installed a copy of windows xp pro on it,everything went on ok,but i am not getting any sound at all, when i go to control panel and look in sound and audio devises it says no audio device!
The hard drive on my PC is apparently dying. I need to replace it... no big deal, I can handle that. But I want to get my information off the drive because I stupidly haven't backed it up recently. I can get the drive to start (with protests and a very slow reaction time), but though I can hear it spinning and feel the vibrations, it won't trigger the monitor. I don't get a "no signal" message, all I get is the power light blinking at me
I was surfing the net and my McAfee virus scan told me i was infected. Soon after my desktop wallpaper showed an ad for free spyware removal software and now i can't change it back to the regular desktop. When i right click it acts like a pic, and won't let me go to the desktop properties.
I'm trying to sort out an error that I have on a 2000 machine. Its a bad checksum error and says that the wldap32.exe file may be corrupt.I have taken the drive out and installed it as a slave in another machine and located said file but whats the best way to replace it? I want to make sure I do this right from the start.
I got a Compaq notebook.Since a few weeks my battery indicator is gone in die the lower taskbar. I ticked all the boxes in the Configuration screen but still no pic.Does anybody know how to solve this? Has it something to do with the register?
I just now noticed something incredibly odd happening in my start menu. The Search option, specifically, where it's supposed to say Search, is replaced with strange lettering. Here's a picture of what it looks like:
Ive been getting a Windows XP Pro BSOD with the following technical information: STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF495FED The computer resets before any more information is displayed. This error has been occurring for a few months, but it occurs occasionally, i usually just let the comp reboot and choose "Start Windows Normally" and it will boot fine. However, today i did that over 10 times and it kept giving me the bsod. Then i gave up, but tried again after 15 mins or so, it booted up.I only started getting the error after i replaced my comp's PSU (the old one died - i tested the old one on another comp) a few months ago. At the same time I decided to replace my graphics card (Leadtek Winfast A6600GT TDH replacing a Radeon 9200SE), and install a new sound card (SB Audigy 2 Value) and new hdd (Western Digital SATA 200G
