I'm trying to sort out an error that I have on a 2000 machine. Its a bad checksum error and says that the wldap32.exe file may be corrupt.I have taken the drive out and installed it as a slave in another machine and located said file but whats the best way to replace it? I want to make sure I do this right from the start.

When the computer tried to load into Windows I get a message saying that the WLDAP32.dll file is missing and that I need to install it. The computer will not load into any mode, including the Safe Mode. I then tried to load the file from the XP install disc and was told on a blue screen that Windows had to shut down due to not wanting to damage the computer. So, I cannot load into Windows in any mode and I cannot get the file from the Install CD.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I was uninstalling Kaspersky, at the end of the uninstallation, it asked me if I wanted to save the NTFS files, IF i were to use Kaspersky in the future. I figured I wouldn't use the antivirus in the future anyways. So, I just uninstalled the NTFS files, and in the end, this window popped up saying that the NTFS files were replaced by unrecognizable files. Another windows popped up saying to insert the Windows XP Pro CD, to replace those unrecognizable files.Nothing is going wrong with the PC as of now, but I am just a little worried about what this might mean.

I have uninstalled the language pack but the problem persists. All new file paths now look like this -- C:Documents and SettingsJoe BloggsDesktop. When I delete a file from my computer it goes to the recycle bin. When I delete a file from my file server, which is using win2k as well, it does not go to the recycle bin on either computer. When I start SR I can only see one restore point, the one I made the day after I replaced my hard drive.But now when I try to create a new restore point it allows me to enter the name, then after I click OK I get the message ''System Restore is not able to create a restore point. Please restart the computer , and then run System restore again.''After I restart I run System Restore again and get the same message.
Also, the restore points I made before I replaced my hard drive no longer show up.When I replaced the drive (with a Maxtore 80 gb), I used their MaxBurn program to duplicate everything form the old one to the new one. It boots from the new C drive and runs OK and all my programs are there, but some act strangely. I'm wondering if these programs are looking for some kind of system volume information tho make sure they are still on the original system.
I had a wallpaper background on my computer, but it was suddenly replaced by a white background that says Display Problem in a big blue triangle. Under it there was a box that said "Click here to restore background" or something like that. When I clicked on it my background became a solid blue background. I tried changing it by right clicking, but when the Properties windows opens, the only folders that show up are the Screensaver and Settings folders. All the others are gone.I can change the wallpaper when I go to My Pictures and right click and set up as background, but the screen remains blue and you can only see the picture briefly when powering on and off

View 6 Replies View RelatedFirstly I have a pc which I installed Win XP Prof onto. All worked great. Then took out modem card and replaced with ethernet card. Again no problem. However, when I went to boot the compute up a week or so later it went through the boot process and then just before I would expect to see the Windows logo with blue sky background appear I "sometimes" get a blue screen flash up with a message which you cant read unless you can slow down time and then the PC restarts and goes through the whole procedure again.
I did manage to start in Boot logging mode and watch to see where the problem was. It seemed to be something to do with the Display adaptor. I found the appropriate solution on the web and although I now get further on into the boot, it still restarts. When i try to run the logging thing (!) it does not want to play any more and just boots in the normal fashion. I have tried defaulting the BIOS, checking the file system for damaged sectors etc all to no avail.
I started my computer today and all of the icons pointing to Microsoft Office files, Adobe Acrobat files, and similar files have been replaced by generic windows icons (white icon with little window in the middle) they are no longer program specific icons.Yes, I have tried TweakUI to rebuild the icons and it did nothing, I have tried increasing then decreasing the size of the icons to attempt to force windows to replace them with the correct icons and that has not worked either. I have also tried to use system restore and that did not help either.This is really making me angry and I don't understand why it happened I have searched everywhere for a solution and found nothing.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have recently had to recover Windows XP using the recover disc supplied with my machine.I backed up all my documents to a backup file before performing this operation.However, I am having problems recovering any data from this file.When I select the file, the Backup and Restore Wizard operates. However when I select the restore option the 'what to restore' window simply lists a folder called 'file' in the items to restore box.I assumed I should have been prompted with a list of folders and files that had been backed up. When I try to put the tick in the box next to the folder 'file', the mouse changes to a tick, but clicking the box does not select the folder or show any sub-folders.As an aside, I had two backup files, both some 600Meg long so I assumed the backup had worked, but both have the same problem.

I guess like compiling an iso image is what I want without burning anything to disk. I have alcohol 120 and what I want to try out is to put all my music and other files into nice 4.7gb iso or any other image format like mdf so that I can mount the image on a drive and if I need to back stuff up its only a double click away. I think this might end up being as much of a hassle to look through drives, but I don’t like the normal way of looking through folders and folders and sub folders to have my stuff nice and neatly organized on my pc.

I'm running Win XP Pro SP 3, I have a file that I periodically copy to several different computers on a LAN. The exact destinations of the file change occasionally and I want to minimize the amount of maintenance involved when there is a change.
In the folder containing the file I have a shortcut to each of the destination drives. When one of the destination folders changes I update the shortcut in that folder.
If I drag the file to each of the shortcuts using the right mouse button one of the options is to copy the file to the target of the shortcut, so one way to copy the file is to manually drag it to each shortcut. Is it possible to achieve similar functionality with a batch file? It is easy enough to write a batch file that copies the files to each destination by coding the destinations into the batch file but is it possible to use a batch file to copy the file to the target of each shortcut? I suspect that parsing the .lnk files is complex but I don't know if there is another way to do this.
I have some ISO Files and would like to make a cd with each file. I also want then to be bootable. Do I just copy the ISO to the disk, or do I copy the contents of the ISO to a disk. How do I do that?

I have a PC that had numerous defunct users, some from old defunct workgroups. I thought I'd consolidate. I moved a bunch of files and folders to a current users folder and deleted the defunct files and folders. I did this in Explore, loged in as Administrator, because these defunct users were from a previous defunct workgroups and did not show up in User Accounts/ControlPanel. As administrator I can read and wrtie to these files, but the user can't. I have marked these folders as shared and given permission to do everything to them, but the user that need them still can't write to them. As Administrator, I have assigned him to the powerUsers Group in the Users account/ControlPanel.
