Wont Turn On - Cmos Battery Has Died ?
May 31, 2010When I press button it starts,light on button comes on and fan runs but thats it
Normally at start fan is very loud for about 3 seconds then It seems to switch something and goes quieter and eveything comes on. Now when fanstats you can here a small ticking sound ..like something trying to do something..if you know what I mean.It will not turn monitor on either.
Is it possible that the cmos battery has died ?
I really need help here .,even though I have this laptop I likemy desktop better
CMOS Battery Low Issue After Starting System
Sep 28, 2010MOtherboard is asus K8S-MX, everytime i boot it says CMOS battery low, date and time not set. I have changed many batteries. What I am now trying is to get date and time off a server upon startup. The problem is windows xp won't synchronise with time servers if date does not match! For security reasons, windows can not synchronize with the server because your date does not match. Please fix the date and try again.

Aug 14, 2008once the on button was pushed, it came up with the BIOS screen asking for the password.I removed the CMOS battery, which allowed me to change the Password so I can get onto BIOS now. However, when I boot now it just comes up with the BIOS screen.I set HD to boot first, aswell as setting the clock and date. I then ask it to save and quit, after which it shut's down, and reboots, only, BIOS keeps coming up. And I need to get this sorted asap

But the promblem (other than the BSoD) is that my Bios is asking for a password and i've never put a password on it. I wouldn't know how. It's a dell laptop so is it possible that dell put it on? Or is this a virus of some kind?

Dec 27, 2007i found out my computers userinit.exe has been changed and it is causing my computer to ask for a password when i never set one to begin with and it keeps logging on and off....along with other things. This recently happened with a virus and i dont have the XP cd. Is there a way i can rewrite the registry to userinit.exe thru bios? or any other program? I have a program called <reference removed> but have no idea how to use it.

Oct 10, 2007my pc today decided to go black screen right after the Win XP loading screen the one with the blue dots crossing the screen. right when Windows User select screen WOULD load the screen goes black, still on because the monitor never sleeps but black. Feb 11, 2009I?m trying to run a repair on my friends Compaq Presario 1245 but I have a strange problem. Every time I boot into setup, it will load the setup files and then just try to start windows up. The setup program will boot from the CD, load the drivers and whatnot, but instead of going into the actual setup process (where you can install a clean copy, repair etc), it just tries to boot to Windows automatically (Which doesn?t work).I've tried it even with a Windows 2003 CD and the same thing happens. I have went and reset the bios to their factory settings just in case for a session but that doesn't seem to be the problem (the CMOS battery is dead anyways). I was told the CMOS battery being dead might be the problem but its never really been and issue for me before when Ive worked on laptops (with dead CMOS batteries)

Jan 17, 2005having trouble with the mobo CMOS settings and ended up rmaing the mobo and the memory. Well i got the new mobo and memory is it loads. When it goes to load XP it gets NTLDR not found or something to that degree and says press ctrl+alt+del to restart. My hd has a partial install of xp and i havent been able do the full install. Was wondering how to do the full install now. I tried popping the xp cd in and it doesnt read it, it just gives me the NTLDR message and wont do anything.

Aug 10, 2006Got a bit of a problem with my housemates pc.A friend gave him some extra RAM, i checked it out and it was crucial 512mb pc2100 CL2.5, and although it didn't match his exsisting RAM it seemed to me that his mobo would only run the FSB at 200mhz anyway so i went ahead and fitted it.It worked fine I then noticed his system temp was running a little high (60-65 degrees), so i took his heatsink off and cleaned the dust and refitted it with some new thermal compound.I added too much and the temp went up. To nearly 90 degrees.I shut it dwon as i didn't want the cpu to pop, cleaned it off, reapplied less compound and figured this would work fine.Now we have the problem. Most of the time: Power on and nothing happens. No bios, no beeps. Occasionally: Power on, i jump into the bios, the temp looks fine (30-40 degrees) and then it freezes right there in the bios after about 30 seconds to a minute.This sounds like a heat issue, but the last temp reading before freeze is 33 degrees.?I've double and triple checked that the heatsink is on properly and thats fine. I followed the official guide on how much compound to use (a blob the size of an uncooked short grain of rice).

Oct 5, 2008I got an inspiron 1150 I keep in my office... one day, I went to use it, and the screen was froze up, so I hard reset it and it wuldnt boot. Just a flashing cursor on the top left corner, no post, boot screen, nuttin... if I unplugged the ac adapter, it would get to boot screen then freeze. So I bought a new ac adapter. No go. Still wont boot. Locks up. Battery indicator light dont show amber but it does recharge the battery.So... I got it booted, and then when I plug in the ac adapter, boom, instant lock up...Ive tried booting just on ac and just on battery... no go...SO i reinstalled xp... gets to the "installing devices" part, at 35 minutes remaining and locks up every ime...
