When using internet explorer and a site for example eBay. It will only let me populate the User name Field, But when i try enter the password the field doesn't allow any data to be entered. This happens for other programs outwith Internet Explorer too.The OS is Windows XP.

View 9 Replies View Relatedso, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE! i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots? i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.
i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app it says that bluetooth and wireless are not present (by the way i can still get the bluetooth button to work - correction - it starts up with the button on but if i turn it off it won't let me turn it on again). the emanager and presentation manager buttons on the laptops casing don't work either (i have to access them via software route).
I have a P4 550 running XP Pro.I'm trying to reconfigue my drive to use all it's disc space, I have a'Type 77' partition that is 7.6GB that I can't seem to do anything with.Partition Magic 8.0 can't seem to format it, convert it to NTFS, delete it ,or any other operation I try to apply to it.I've reformatted this drive 4 times now and the 'type 77' partition always remains.It does not have a drive letter, PM 8.0 lists it as Local Disc [*:]

I must have accidentally hit some button. Now I cannot type anything into a web page. I can type in on the addresses bar, Yahoo, and Google, but when a web page appears below which has a block for info, nothing happens when I click in the area where my curser is hovering. This happened all at once. I have done two different virus scans and put in a backup drive and even another keyboard. All the same results. The problem must be in some setting. I am not real experienced in computer repair but could this be a BIOS setting or something similar that was corrupted somehow?

Until recently, there have been no problems doing this. but within the last few days, I suddenly have an E: and F: that are of the type RAW and are 0-bytes in size. These two don't show in the Windows Disk Defragmenter or in the QTParted partitioner.
I presently have only Windows and no Linux installations. but they are taking up space as far as the allocation for the drive letters is concerned. Here are the drives that show normally:C: - my Windows partition D: - my CD drive In Windows Explorer, the two above show up..but I also have these E: and F:drives. I've looked through the Registry and don't see anything there

When I choose Save As and click on save the computer hangs up. Internet Explorer is doing the same thing. I cannot type in a URL addresses and it go to the site. None of the addresses I type in show up in the drop down menu. If it is in my favorites I can get it to respond.

I can click on the user then click on the password box.A larger than-normal black rectangle appears as the cursor, but when I type keys they are not 'remembered'.I can hold ctrl-alt-del and get the older style log in.I can use the mouse to select the name and the password boxes but I have the same problem with the cursor and the keyboard characters are still not remembered/indicated.It does not let me delete or overwrite the user name in the name box.At the 'to begin' screen,if I click on an account/user that has no password,the system logs me in and the keyboard works fully.Also,the keyboard works in BIOS setup.I have tried both PS/2 and USB keyboards: they work except for login as described above.Problems like this have been reported before but the only solution seems to be install Windows XP from scratch which I would very much like to avoid.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows Installer was not functioning,among other problems, followed Dell troubleshooting guide to reinstall XP using "R" function on Operating System CD so I wouldn't lose files. Apparently worked, was able to log into most-used account. When I went to 2nd account, instead of a fine line in the space one types in password, a blinking black box appeared and keyboard was unable to type in password. Now blinking box appears on all accounts and I can't type in password on any account. Tried using older keyboard plugged into designated keyboard slot, also tried using new keyboard in USB port, neither worked. This is an old Dell Dimension 4600i series with Win XP Home Edition+SP2. Do I need to do a complete re installation of XP, losing some of my most recent files, or does anyone have another solution? Thanks.

So if I open a folder with 50 files, there's 50 of these .tqd files right beside them.
I'm wondering if there's a way to set it in XP so that ALL .tqd files on my computer are 'hidden'.
For now I've just been holding down 'ctrl' and highlighting all the .tqd files in a folder, then right clicking and going to properties and setting them as hidden. Works great but there's no way I want to do this for every folder

At work we have a software thats work under DOS mode, and we have Windows 98 SE Portuguese. till yesterday I was able to type in that software those letters which has accents like ( é, á , ó.... etc). (but i have know idea what they are typing) I have a Logitech g15 Keyboard, all the lights come on, i can go into bios and use every key just fine, can turn numlock, scrolllock and caps lock on and off untill it displays the windows loading screen, then the keyboard kinda freezes and i can no longer turn them on or off -_- , Ive tried everything, 3 diff keyboards, including a non usb one. View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed windows XP on a HP Pavilion with a 20 GB HD using NTFS then found out I should have used FAT32 on a HD that is less than 32GB in size. Also read that I cant go back to FAT32. I was reading on bootdisk.com that I can do a clean install and delete existing partition and when asked to reformat type in a number less than 32GB then go from there. Will this work? My main question is should I bother and why? It seems to work ok using NTFS although a little slower than my brand new Dell. Its just plain fast.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI started using VLC Media Player a week or so ago because I was having (have always had) problems with the bloated Windows Media Player. But VLC has an odd problem. When I click on (e.g.) an .avi or .wmv file that came attached to an e-mail, I get an error message saying that "the file does not have a program associated with it to perform the action". But it DOES. I open Folder Options, and there it is. Now, the only action in the file type box is "Play". I notice that the one thing I open with WMP also has an "Open" as an action. I tried entering an Open action, and browsed to the VLC.exe file to put in the path, but it doesn't work.
The odd thing about the situation is that if I SAVE the attachment, then double-click it, it plays perfectly using VLC? Why will it play after I save it, but not when I click it as an e-mail attachment? I suspect it has something to do with having an "Open" action in the file type, but don't know how to enter same and have it work.

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I've gone through all Outlook Express Settings and there's no restrictions anyway.. no firewall blocks. it's just a problem with windows being able to access the windows/fax view path or something.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to do what so many others prefer...install XP on a new notebook with Vista. I have had some problems thanks to the SATA controller driver. Even the bios has no option to turn the off the controller which has worked for me. So I slipstreamed the driver that seemed to be the one (read on another site) and started the install. Got to where the install asks to specify the RAID type/brand. I select what I think is the one (HP) and then a screen comes up which reads "please insert Windows XP Professional Setup Disk #4 into your CD ROM drive and press Enter when ready". I know of floppy number four, but this is asking for CD number four?
