When I got from start to run and type in something it shows all the sites I've ever visited. I don't necessarily want this. I've tried deleting cookies but that didn't help. This also happens when I go to search engines. All previous searches show up. Sometimes this is useful but do I have a choice.
View 8 RepliesUsing XP home edition. I recently joined a Christmas card site to send E-cards and everything went okay. Today I wanted to send a New Years E-card but upon revisiting the site, I found I couldn't view any of the cards and got a blank screen with a small red 'x' in the top left-hand corner. I refreshed the screen but no joy. Then I altered security levels to minimum to see if that'd fix things - it didn't so I altered them back to default.
Father wants (mysite.com) blocked for anyone that uses computer. They use IE and AOL. I can use parent controls for AOL but not sure how to use Restricted Sites on IE When I start to type (my site) several URL will show up. Do I use all URL or do I just type (www.mysite.com). This is a 12yr. old girl and she forgot all her password (LOL) so when I try it using Fathers side on IE it says restricted in bottom right corner but it will go to log in screen for the site. She is restricted from computer till she turns 18 if I don't get it resolved.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI have been accessing the Hulu tv shows streaming website for weeks (www.hulu.com). Suddenly, when I get to the TV-> browse page and select a tv show, the site hangs. I use Task Manager to kill it (it takes about ten attempts) and try it again and the same thing happens. This has been going on now for a few days.
I deleted the Temp Internet files - in case that was causing a problem - but it made no difference. I have a second, slower PC that can access Hulu without a problem (though not in full screen mode as this pc is too slow for full screen streaming video; the pc I am having the problem with is fast enough to go full screen, which I why I need to use it).......
when i open Partition Magic 8 i see my Maxtor 6Y120P0 drive in a yellow color and the file system marked as "other": but my Windows 2000 Disk Management shows healty:
under windows i can read and write to the partition, so what is wrong? what does Partition Magic wants?
so, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE! i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots? i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.
i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app it says that bluetooth and wireless are not present (by the way i can still get the bluetooth button to work - correction - it starts up with the button on but if i turn it off it won't let me turn it on again). the emanager and presentation manager buttons on the laptops casing don't work either (i have to access them via software route).
I inadvertently blocked a Web site on my home computer. All mail from this site has images blocked and most links not working, and I can't access the Web site in Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape browsers suddenly. However, if I read my email or try to access the site on another computer, everything is fine. I remember clicking something having to do with the content on this page being "unsigned," but I haven't been able to find a way to fix the problem. When I've cleared cookies, history, cache, files, and unchecked all security everywhere, I sometimes can access the Web site until I close the browser and re-open it (even with no changes made), but the images and links are still blocked in my hotmail.

I change the name servers and they have propgated because I checked the DNS on a DNS report website and the domain name points to the new host. Everyone can connect to the new host and view my web site except for me. The only way I can connect and view my web site is if I go to it through a proxy. I tried flushing the cache. I tried clearing the temporary internet files and history. I tried disabling the negative caching through the registry. I tried restarting the dns client service.

My adaware, spybot, and AVG antivirus (all free) wont get rid of it. I have deleted the driver and restarted the computer.I was unable to update the driver, I have the best one now.I am running windows xp sp2.It says the device is working properly, location is 0(0).
I must have accidentally hit some button. Now I cannot type anything into a web page. I can type in on the addresses bar, Yahoo, and Google, but when a web page appears below which has a block for info, nothing happens when I click in the area where my curser is hovering. This happened all at once. I have done two different virus scans and put in a backup drive and even another keyboard. All the same results. The problem must be in some setting. I am not real experienced in computer repair but could this be a BIOS setting or something similar that was corrupted somehow?

Until recently, there have been no problems doing this. but within the last few days, I suddenly have an E: and F: that are of the type RAW and are 0-bytes in size. These two don't show in the Windows Disk Defragmenter or in the QTParted partitioner.
I presently have only Windows and no Linux installations. but they are taking up space as far as the allocation for the drive letters is concerned. Here are the drives that show normally:C: - my Windows partition D: - my CD drive In Windows Explorer, the two above show up..but I also have these E: and F:drives. I've looked through the Registry and don't see anything there

When I choose Save As and click on save the computer hangs up. Internet Explorer is doing the same thing. I cannot type in a URL addresses and it go to the site. None of the addresses I type in show up in the drop down menu. If it is in my favorites I can get it to respond.

I can click on the user then click on the password box.A larger than-normal black rectangle appears as the cursor, but when I type keys they are not 'remembered'.I can hold ctrl-alt-del and get the older style log in.I can use the mouse to select the name and the password boxes but I have the same problem with the cursor and the keyboard characters are still not remembered/indicated.It does not let me delete or overwrite the user name in the name box.At the 'to begin' screen,if I click on an account/user that has no password,the system logs me in and the keyboard works fully.Also,the keyboard works in BIOS setup.I have tried both PS/2 and USB keyboards: they work except for login as described above.Problems like this have been reported before but the only solution seems to be install Windows XP from scratch which I would very much like to avoid.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows Installer was not functioning,among other problems, followed Dell troubleshooting guide to reinstall XP using "R" function on Operating System CD so I wouldn't lose files. Apparently worked, was able to log into most-used account. When I went to 2nd account, instead of a fine line in the space one types in password, a blinking black box appeared and keyboard was unable to type in password. Now blinking box appears on all accounts and I can't type in password on any account. Tried using older keyboard plugged into designated keyboard slot, also tried using new keyboard in USB port, neither worked. This is an old Dell Dimension 4600i series with Win XP Home Edition+SP2. Do I need to do a complete re installation of XP, losing some of my most recent files, or does anyone have another solution? Thanks.

I get this on the typing bar, screen: 000000.And I cannot stop it, if I try to press backspace it just keeps coming forward.I know it is not my keyboard, because I have unplugged my keyboard and it still does it, it might be a virus, but again I have kaspersky 2010 and it has not detected any viruses. View 11 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a piece of audio hardware and after installing the software on my computer it now has duplicate files of all my .WAVs and .MP3s So for example, if I've got Section 78 - Dronodome.wav right below that is Section 78 - Dronodome.tqd
So if I open a folder with 50 files, there's 50 of these .tqd files right beside them.
I'm wondering if there's a way to set it in XP so that ALL .tqd files on my computer are 'hidden'.
For now I've just been holding down 'ctrl' and highlighting all the .tqd files in a folder, then right clicking and going to properties and setting them as hidden. Works great but there's no way I want to do this for every folder

At work we have a software thats work under DOS mode, and we have Windows 98 SE Portuguese. till yesterday I was able to type in that software those letters which has accents like ( é, á , ó.... etc). I don't know why I can not type those letters now, and what appear is ( ' e, ' a , ' o ...) as two separate characters . so I went to MS-DOS mode prompt and start to type those letters and I discovered that my MS-DOS mode DO NOT type these accents letters... while I was able to do it yesterday..
View 1 Replies View RelatedStarted up my computer yesterday morning and when it got to the windows login screen, i could click on my user to type my password in and then when i tried to type my password in none of the keys were working, the only keys that were working were the buttons G13,G14,G15,G16,G17,G18. (but i have know idea what they are typing) I have a Logitech g15 Keyboard, all the lights come on, i can go into bios and use every key just fine, can turn numlock, scrolllock and caps lock on and off untill it displays the windows loading screen, then the keyboard kinda freezes and i can no longer turn them on or off -_- , Ive tried everything, 3 diff keyboards, including a non usb one. Tried my other harddrive, Same Issues.Running winxp sp2.
