Ms Dos Mode Do Not Type Accents Letters

At work we have a software thats work under DOS mode, and we have Windows 98 SE Portuguese. till yesterday I was able to type in that software those letters which has accents like ( é, á , ó.... etc). I don't know why I can not type those letters now, and what appear is ( ' e, ' a , ' o ...) as two separate characters . so I went to MS-DOS mode prompt and start to type those letters and I discovered that my MS-DOS mode DO NOT type these accents letters... while I was able to do it yesterday..

I use XP pro, and my word processing programs are Word Perfect9 and MS Word from Office XP pro suite.I have always used alt+130, 160, 162, etc. to use accents, etc, for foreign languages. Never had a problem. Now, they don't work. How do i acquire this function and get it working again?

so, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE! i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots? i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.
i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app it says that bluetooth and wireless are not present (by the way i can still get the bluetooth button to work - correction - it starts up with the button on but if i turn it off it won't let me turn it on again). the emanager and presentation manager buttons on the laptops casing don't work either (i have to access them via software route).

my keyboard is messed up. if i type the alphabet it comes out as follows
abcdefgh51230n6pqrst4vwxyz, i can type the correct letters by holding down the 'fn' key, as i am doing now. and if i hold down the 'fn' and 'shift' i get this
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPRSTUVWXYZ this all aooctter when i was trying to write a letter to someone in germany and wanted to tyoe the char of the 'umlaut'. i thought i could set the language to german, then switch back.

For whatever reason, I cannot type when I ope the CMD prompt (Start/run/cmd) However, when I type in command it works. I believe this has something to do woth the fact that my itunes & quicktime have just stopped working

Just recently my comp stopped playing cd's of any type on the dvd drive.no error messages are being displayed.
I have deleted the driver and restarted the computer.I was unable to update the driver, I have the best one now.I am running windows xp sp2.It says the device is working properly, location is 0(0).

I must have accidentally hit some button. Now I cannot type anything into a web page. I can type in on the addresses bar, Yahoo, and Google, but when a web page appears below which has a block for info, nothing happens when I click in the area where my curser is hovering. This happened all at once. I have done two different virus scans and put in a backup drive and even another keyboard. All the same results. The problem must be in some setting. I am not real experienced in computer repair but could this be a BIOS setting or something similar that was corrupted somehow?

I've been playingwith various flavors of Linux and using the QTPArted cd to resize partitions. Until recently, there have been no problems doing this. but within the last few days, I suddenly have an E: and F: that are of the type RAW and are 0-bytes in size. These two don't show in the Windows Disk Defragmenter or in the QTParted partitioner.
I presently have only Windows and no Linux installations. but they are taking up space as far as the allocation for the drive letters is concerned. Here are the drives that show normally:C: - my Windows partition D: - my CD drive In Windows Explorer, the two above show up..but I also have these E: and F:drives. I've looked through the Registry and don't see anything there

I've been trying to make print easier to read since I got WinsXP SP2, but now I've messed around where I shouldn't be and have ended up w/GIGANTIC print on websites such as this one. (Much bigger than the type you're probably seeing here.)I was fooling around in Ctrl Panel and reset some size options. I thought I was in device mgr, but can't retrace my steps...but I was DEFINETLY somewhere in the Ctrl Panel.

I am using Windows XP on my PC. For some reason we can not save any changes made to a word document. I tried Excel and that worked fine. When I choose Save As and click on save the computer hangs up. Internet Explorer is doing the same thing. I cannot type in a URL addresses and it go to the site. None of the addresses I type in show up in the drop down menu. If it is in my favorites I can get it to respond.

When using internet explorer and a site for example eBay. It will only let me populate the User name Field, But when i try enter the password the field doesn't allow any data to be entered. This happens for other programs outwith Internet Explorer too.The OS is Windows XP.

I have a Windows XP computer (Dell Optiplex).I cannot log in to the admin account. I can click on the user then click on the password box.A larger than-normal black rectangle appears as the cursor, but when I type keys they are not 'remembered'.I can hold ctrl-alt-del and get the older style log in.I can use the mouse to select the name and the password boxes but I have the same problem with the cursor and the keyboard characters are still not remembered/indicated.It does not let me delete or overwrite the user name in the name box.At the 'to begin' screen,if I click on an account/user that has no password,the system logs me in and the keyboard works fully.Also,the keyboard works in BIOS setup.I have tried both PS/2 and USB keyboards: they work except for login as described above.Problems like this have been reported before but the only solution seems to be install Windows XP from scratch which I would very much like to avoid.

Windows Installer was not functioning,among other problems, followed Dell troubleshooting guide to reinstall XP using "R" function on Operating System CD so I wouldn't lose files. Apparently worked, was able to log into most-used account. When I went to 2nd account, instead of a fine line in the space one types in password, a blinking black box appeared and keyboard was unable to type in password. Now blinking box appears on all accounts and I can't type in password on any account. Tried using older keyboard plugged into designated keyboard slot, also tried using new keyboard in USB port, neither worked. This is an old Dell Dimension 4600i series with Win XP Home Edition+SP2. Do I need to do a complete re installation of XP, losing some of my most recent files, or does anyone have another solution? Thanks.

Basically every time I open any browser or any other applications, where you can type. I get this on the typing bar, screen: 000000.And I cannot stop it, if I try to press backspace it just keeps coming forward.I know it is not my keyboard, because I have unplugged my keyboard and it still does it, it might be a virus, but again I have kaspersky 2010 and it has not detected any viruses. My PC is quite old, it a dell, dimension 3100, windows XP.

I recently bought a piece of audio hardware and after installing the software on my computer it now has duplicate files of all my .WAVs and .MP3s So for example, if I've got Section 78 - Dronodome.wav right below that is Section 78 - Dronodome.tqd
So if I open a folder with 50 files, there's 50 of these .tqd files right beside them.
I'm wondering if there's a way to set it in XP so that ALL .tqd files on my computer are 'hidden'.
For now I've just been holding down 'ctrl' and highlighting all the .tqd files in a folder, then right clicking and going to properties and setting them as hidden. Works great but there's no way I want to do this for every folder

Started up my computer yesterday morning and when it got to the windows login screen, i could click on my user to type my password in and then when i tried to type my password in none of the keys were working, the only keys that were working were the buttons G13,G14,G15,G16,G17,G18. (but i have know idea what they are typing) I have a Logitech g15 Keyboard, all the lights come on, i can go into bios and use every key just fine, can turn numlock, scrolllock and caps lock on and off untill it displays the windows loading screen, then the keyboard kinda freezes and i can no longer turn them on or off -_- , Ive tried everything, 3 diff keyboards, including a non usb one. Tried my other harddrive, Same Issues.Running winxp sp2.

I installed windows XP on a HP Pavilion with a 20 GB HD using NTFS then found out I should have used FAT32 on a HD that is less than 32GB in size. Also read that I cant go back to FAT32. I was reading on bootdisk.com that I can do a clean install and delete existing partition and when asked to reformat type in a number less than 32GB then go from there. Will this work? My main question is should I bother and why? It seems to work ok using NTFS although a little slower than my brand new Dell. Its just plain fast.

When I got from start to run and type in something it shows all the sites I've ever visited. I don't necessarily want this. I've tried deleting cookies but that didn't help. This also happens when I go to search engines. All previous searches show up. Sometimes this is useful but do I have a choice.

I want to change a file type association manually, but when I do, I no longer have the "Advanced" button available to change the file type icon. I get a Restore button instead. This seems like a simple problem, but I can't find a solution. I don't want Windows to keep track of file association history. I just want to change them.

I started using VLC Media Player a week or so ago because I was having (have always had) problems with the bloated Windows Media Player. But VLC has an odd problem. When I click on (e.g.) an .avi or .wmv file that came attached to an e-mail, I get an error message saying that "the file does not have a program associated with it to perform the action". But it DOES. I open Folder Options, and there it is. Now, the only action in the file type box is "Play". I notice that the one thing I open with WMP also has an "Open" as an action. I tried entering an Open action, and browsed to the VLC.exe file to put in the path, but it doesn't work.
The odd thing about the situation is that if I SAVE the attachment, then double-click it, it plays perfectly using VLC? Why will it play after I save it, but not when I click it as an e-mail attachment? I suspect it has something to do with having an "Open" action in the file type, but don't know how to enter same and have it work.

I'm trying to play Diablo II: LoD, which requires that the LoD expansion CD be in my CDROM drive. I mounted an image of the disc with Daemon such that it's in (virtual) Drive E: (normal CDROM drive is D:[b][/b]). But the game seems to only be checking my D: Drive for the disc, and it won't let me point to the E: Drive.
Is there a way to just switch the drive letters around, and if so, do you think this would even solve my problem? Perhaps there's a way I can just set E: as my default CDROM drive, so that the game would check there?

I formatted my hard disk on my own computer and put new motherboard and CPU in. Then I put in XP. The hardware I had in ended up as CD= D, A drive =A, Zip =C. Therefore my software went onto a drive called E. Some programs will not load on an E drive and only demand C. Can I change my E to C and my C to E?

i feel that this is probley simple... but I don't know how to do it. I've right clicked directly on the dvd-player to see if I could change it and nothing is there. My dad has a dvd-player F: and a cd-rom drive E:, His computer was formatted recently, but now the software for each of the drives are mixed up. Putting a dvd in drive F:, tells us that drive E: does not contain a disk.I would like to just change the drive letters back to how it wants to be set-up.
