I've been trying to make print easier to read since I got WinsXP SP2, but now I've messed around where I shouldn't be and have ended up w/GIGANTIC print on websites such as this one. (Much bigger than the type you're probably seeing here.)I was fooling around in Ctrl Panel and reset some size options. I thought I was in device mgr, but can't retrace my steps...but I was DEFINETLY somewhere in the Ctrl Panel.

so, a few years back i read a magazine that said to change the type of computer in device manager to standard pc because it made the computer run a little better or faster.so now i've got my laptop and i've noticed it getting slower and thought that i would do this... VERY BAD MOVE! i can still boot windows and everything - it meant that i had to let the computer reinstall all of the drivers for my hardware - but i have noticed in the device manager now that there are two instances of 'standard pc', there is also a new section titled 'other devices' with about 15 devices that seem to have no driver for them - some mention 'ISA' so i am guessing that changing to standard pc means that windows thinks my laptop is now a desktop pc with ISA slots? i find that when i put my laptop lid down the thing shuts down, when i press the power button it turns off straight away (doesn't even shut down!). i had had the laptop configured for ages to do nothing when i closed the lid and give me shut down options when i pressed the power button. i look in power options and i can only cinfigure the monitor screen and hard disk power off options - every other option is not available. when i do bring up the shut down options i can no longer choose standby.
i have also realised that i can not turn on my wireless connection - i've tried all sorts to get it to work with no avail! the laptop is an acer ferrari and when i call up the manager app it says that bluetooth and wireless are not present (by the way i can still get the bluetooth button to work - correction - it starts up with the button on but if i turn it off it won't let me turn it on again). the emanager and presentation manager buttons on the laptops casing don't work either (i have to access them via software route).
All of a sudden I have very large writting on the internet using exporer, I did not change any thing but I would like to get them back to normal size. Bruce Is it true that cannibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWell i got this computer from a friend. But i wanted to install it into a different case so we moved everything over to my custom case. Then when trying to boot windows it just crashes/or reboots the computer. I'm trying to boot windows xp sp1 new install... I have an abit an7 motherboard with 2 gigs of ram. a geforce 6200 LE graphics card. and a liteon cdr dvd reader. I'm not sure of the hard drive all i know is when i hook my hard drive up into another computer it boots just fine. Also to mention when i try to reinstall windows it crashes at the exact same spot (many different cds) ive got as far as booting into windows to the setup part and bam BSOD.. i've tried many other forums and no one seems to want to help me some one PLEASE I BEG OF YOU!

View 2 Replies View RelatedAbout two days ago I can't seem to open the majority of webpages, everything just comes up as an error message, event the stuff in "Favorites". I have no clue why. I called the internet company and everything is OK. Some of the pages open and usually the same ones do, so it isn't a connection problem. the rest just say "Internet Explorer Can't Show the Page" or something to that effect.I've used Superantispyware, bitdefender, Nod32 and Spybot. Sounds like a configuration thing? Forgot to mention that after turning off windows firewall, some pages (like this one) came back, but most others didn't.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNeed some help figuring out why I have sound when I use RealPlayer, Media player or QuickTime but no sound if the audio/video is embedded in a webpage. My OS is Windows XP Home Edition 2002 with SP2. My modem is Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem and my audio components are RealTek AC'97 audio for VIA and Unimodem half Duplex audio device. I also have 2 external Labtec speakers. Windows diagnostics say everything is working O.K., and driver update gives me a message that the drivers that I already have are the best match. Interestingly when I check the Sounds & Audio devices in Control Panel, it says that I have no audio devices and buttons are greyed out. Also there is an update on the MS site for CMedia AC'97 device but when I download & install, I lose all sound. In multimedia preferences, play sound in webpages is on.
View 6 Replies View Relateda few days ago i had a major spyware problem. some of the nice people from this site helped me solve my problem, and i'm so grateful for that. but since then, i'm unable to get onto my homepage and some other websites (namely messageboards or other "interactive" sites) the sites are working for other people, so that's not the issue. i did something called "tuneup utilities 2004" on the request of someone here after i had cleared my computer of spyware, and i think that might have adjusted the settings for internet explorer. but i don't know what they were originally, and restoring them to default doesn't seem to work.do any of you have any idea as to what's causing this and how to fix it? like i said, most websites work, but some that worked before aren't working now.

My computer is free of viruses or spyware (Ad-aware, spybot, spyware doctor) but very few webpages such as this one, google and all associated pages, novell groupwise, baltimoreravens.com etc. I m connected through a 40-bit enabled security key to our wireless network at home and my roomate doesn't have trouble using his browsers.I can't connect to any MSN webpages, yahoo altavista and many many others.Having just rebooted much of what was left in the hard disk I doubt this is some software conflict.Most webpages just hang and return "The document contains no data". Finally, there "local area connection network cable unplugged" notification on my systray. But since I can post this I can connect online alright. What is going on, why are Firefox and IE very selctive with the pages they open ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWIN XP Sp2, IE 6 and also Firefox 1.5. For some reason all webpages fail to display any colour. It's as if the "Ignore colors specified on webpages" option in Accessibility in Internet options is checked. It isn't. Don't think it has anything to do with that option because I get the same issue with Firefox. I have removed all security software / pop up blocker software, cleared cache & cookies, restored IE defaults, and run scannow sfc to no effect. Am a little reluctant to roll back to a previous date but cannot think of any alternative solution.

Doesn't matter if I type in an address or click on a link it takes forever to get to the webpage then it takes forever to load in the webpage. I use AVG free and free Zone Alarm. I have tried spybot, ad-aware, scanning online at symatec. Oh I also have free avg anti-spyware. I am at a total loss. What could it be and what should I do?

Or it says done but the screen is white. Or after hours it loads but not completely. Or I get the message that ie cannot open the webpage. You just recently fixed a DNS hijacker with combofix. I have ran antivirus and antispyware and antimalware. The machine seems clean.

I have deleted the driver and restarted the computer.I was unable to update the driver, I have the best one now.I am running windows xp sp2.It says the device is working properly, location is 0(0).
I must have accidentally hit some button. Now I cannot type anything into a web page. I can type in on the addresses bar, Yahoo, and Google, but when a web page appears below which has a block for info, nothing happens when I click in the area where my curser is hovering. This happened all at once. I have done two different virus scans and put in a backup drive and even another keyboard. All the same results. The problem must be in some setting. I am not real experienced in computer repair but could this be a BIOS setting or something similar that was corrupted somehow?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been playingwith various flavors of Linux and using the QTPArted cd to resize partitions. Until recently, there have been no problems doing this. but within the last few days, I suddenly have an E: and F: that are of the type RAW and are 0-bytes in size. These two don't show in the Windows Disk Defragmenter or in the QTParted partitioner.
I presently have only Windows and no Linux installations. but they are taking up space as far as the allocation for the drive letters is concerned. Here are the drives that show normally:C: - my Windows partition D: - my CD drive In Windows Explorer, the two above show up..but I also have these E: and F:drives. I've looked through the Registry and don't see anything there
I am using Windows XP on my PC. For some reason we can not save any changes made to a word document. I tried Excel and that worked fine. When I choose Save As and click on save the computer hangs up. Internet Explorer is doing the same thing. I cannot type in a URL addresses and it go to the site. None of the addresses I type in show up in the drop down menu. If it is in my favorites I can get it to respond.

I can click on the user then click on the password box.A larger than-normal black rectangle appears as the cursor, but when I type keys they are not 'remembered'.I can hold ctrl-alt-del and get the older style log in.I can use the mouse to select the name and the password boxes but I have the same problem with the cursor and the keyboard characters are still not remembered/indicated.It does not let me delete or overwrite the user name in the name box.At the 'to begin' screen,if I click on an account/user that has no password,the system logs me in and the keyboard works fully.Also,the keyboard works in BIOS setup.I have tried both PS/2 and USB keyboards: they work except for login as described above.Problems like this have been reported before but the only solution seems to be install Windows XP from scratch which I would very much like to avoid.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows Installer was not functioning,among other problems, followed Dell troubleshooting guide to reinstall XP using "R" function on Operating System CD so I wouldn't lose files. Apparently worked, was able to log into most-used account. When I went to 2nd account, instead of a fine line in the space one types in password, a blinking black box appeared and keyboard was unable to type in password. Now blinking box appears on all accounts and I can't type in password on any account. Tried using older keyboard plugged into designated keyboard slot, also tried using new keyboard in USB port, neither worked. This is an old Dell Dimension 4600i series with Win XP Home Edition+SP2. Do I need to do a complete re installation of XP, losing some of my most recent files, or does anyone have another solution? Thanks.

I get this on the typing bar, screen: 000000.And I cannot stop it, if I try to press backspace it just keeps coming forward.I know it is not my keyboard, because I have unplugged my keyboard and it still does it, it might be a virus, but again I have kaspersky 2010 and it has not detected any viruses. View 11 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a piece of audio hardware and after installing the software on my computer it now has duplicate files of all my .WAVs and .MP3s So for example, if I've got Section 78 - Dronodome.wav right below that is Section 78 - Dronodome.tqd
So if I open a folder with 50 files, there's 50 of these .tqd files right beside them.
I'm wondering if there's a way to set it in XP so that ALL .tqd files on my computer are 'hidden'.
For now I've just been holding down 'ctrl' and highlighting all the .tqd files in a folder, then right clicking and going to properties and setting them as hidden. Works great but there's no way I want to do this for every folder
windows explorer XP Pro.Instead of there being a forward slash in the title there is a strange looking W with a slash through it.Also typing Forward slash generates the funny W in windows but types correctly in IE8
