WIN XP Sp2, IE 6 and also Firefox 1.5. For some reason all webpages fail to display any colour. It's as if the "Ignore colors specified on webpages" option in Accessibility in Internet options is checked. It isn't. Don't think it has anything to do with that option because I get the same issue with Firefox. I have removed all security software / pop up blocker software, cleared cache & cookies, restored IE defaults, and run scannow sfc to no effect. Am a little reluctant to roll back to a previous date but cannot think of any alternative solution.
It doesn't matter what colour depth I run my video card at, the icons, task bar icons and the window icon top left of every window always display in what appears to be 256 colours. Everything else is 16 bit or 32 bit, depending on what depth I have selected to run my video card at."Show icon using all possible colours" is checked in display properties. I have tried reinstalling windows to refresh any files that may be corrupt.
I have XPSP3 running on my computer and after cancelling a download of themes half way through(I know I shouldn't do that) I haven't been able to change my colours or theme. I have tried many methods from "Doug", a restore, but not yet a repair because I don't have an SP3 disk. I have copied the message I get here, any help would be appreciated thanks. An exception occurred while trying to run "C:Windowssystem32shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:WINDOWSsystem32desk.cpl",Display"
i cant get internet explorer or firefox to display webpages. The wierd thing is, I can get google earth to work, I can sign into yahoo messenger, but I can't open IE because it says "page cannot be displayed. Ive tried everything from configuring my network, unplugging the cable modem for a minute then plugging it back in, I scanned my comp for viruses, nothing is working and I cant figure out the problem, the internet connections says im connected to the internet too
I had problems with a couple fonts after I upgraded to XP SP3, so I undid the upgrade and reverted to SP2 (not without a few problems of its own).I now notice that some of the font names in my FONT folder are mainly blue in colour with a few in black. Amongst the ones in black are those that caused problems in SP3. could anyone explain the significance of these colors?
About two days ago I can't seem to open the majority of webpages, everything just comes up as an error message, event the stuff in "Favorites". I have no clue why. I called the internet company and everything is OK. Some of the pages open and usually the same ones do, so it isn't a connection problem. the rest just say "Internet Explorer Can't Show the Page" or something to that effect.I've used Superantispyware, bitdefender, Nod32 and Spybot. Sounds like a configuration thing? Forgot to mention that after turning off windows firewall, some pages (like this one) came back, but most others didn't.
My cat walked all over my laptop and must have pressed something because now webpages are all screwed up. They show up out of line and with no color. What should I do to fix this?
Need some help figuring out why I have sound when I use RealPlayer, Media player or QuickTime but no sound if the audio/video is embedded in a webpage. My OS is Windows XP Home Edition 2002 with SP2. My modem is Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem and my audio components are RealTek AC'97 audio for VIA and Unimodem half Duplex audio device. I also have 2 external Labtec speakers. Windows diagnostics say everything is working O.K., and driver update gives me a message that the drivers that I already have are the best match. Interestingly when I check the Sounds & Audio devices in Control Panel, it says that I have no audio devices and buttons are greyed out. Also there is an update on the MS site for CMedia AC'97 device but when I download & install, I lose all sound. In multimedia preferences, play sound in webpages is on.
a few days ago i had a major spyware problem. some of the nice people from this site helped me solve my problem, and i'm so grateful for that. but since then, i'm unable to get onto my homepage and some other websites (namely messageboards or other "interactive" sites) the sites are working for other people, so that's not the issue. i did something called "tuneup utilities 2004" on the request of someone here after i had cleared my computer of spyware, and i think that might have adjusted the settings for internet explorer. but i don't know what they were originally, and restoring them to default doesn't seem to work.do any of you have any idea as to what's causing this and how to fix it? like i said, most websites work, but some that worked before aren't working now.
so I got on the computer, started up the Internet, and noticed the backgrounds weren't working. The text colours (like active links etc.) and normal images were working, but not any colours. Same with folders on the Desktop. So I tried to fix it, on the main Desktop I right clicked and went to properties, and changed the modified theme to Windows XP. Before I did that, the Folders looked something like this.
I think this is going to be a little hard to explain but I will try. When I open a folder in My Documents, some documents show up with black font, others are white font and I can't figure out why.I have to hold the mouse over the document to see what it is.I have a folder with all my newsletter emails and some are in black font some in white. It doesn't seem to matter what the file ext. is.

I've been trying to make print easier to read since I got WinsXP SP2, but now I've messed around where I shouldn't be and have ended up w/GIGANTIC print on websites such as this one. (Much bigger than the type you're probably seeing here.)I was fooling around in Ctrl Panel and reset some size options. I thought I was in device mgr, but can't retrace my steps...but I was DEFINETLY somewhere in the Ctrl Panel.
I have recently gone through HP's repair function which wiped out almost everything but very few programs. My computer is free of viruses or spyware (Ad-aware, spybot, spyware doctor) but very few webpages such as this one, google and all associated pages, novell groupwise, baltimoreravens.com etc. I m connected through a 40-bit enabled security key to our wireless network at home and my roomate doesn't have trouble using his browsers.I can't connect to any MSN webpages, yahoo altavista and many many others.Having just rebooted much of what was left in the hard disk I doubt this is some software conflict. Most webpages just hang and return "The document contains no data". Finally, there "local area connection network cable unplugged" notification on my systray. But since I can post this I can connect online alright. What is going on, why are Firefox and IE very selctive with the pages they open ?
I use xp pro with sp2 with ie7. Doesn't matter if I type in an address or click on a link it takes forever to get to the webpage then it takes forever to load in the webpage. I use AVG free and free Zone Alarm. I have tried spybot, ad-aware, scanning online at symatec. Oh I also have free avg anti-spyware. I am at a total loss. What could it be and what should I do?
Webpages take forever to load. Sometimes they don't load at all. All webpages are this way not just some. Either they just set there saying they are waiting. Or it says done but the screen is white. Or after hours it loads but not completely. Or I get the message that ie cannot open the webpage. You just recently fixed a DNS hijacker with combofix. I have ran antivirus and antispyware and antimalware. The machine seems clean.
I am using Windows XP (SP2).Whenever I start Internet Explorer the home page opens but as soon I type the URL of some other website I get an error that says, "The specific module could not be found".Initially my Mshtml.dll was missing. I downloaded and installedt the file, and also checked regsvr32 mshtml.dll, it was successful.
My printer has just started not to print all the full colours. It is an all in one HP PSC 1410 and now prints everything as either Yellow, Light green or light blue. I have changed both the colour and black cartridges and the computer is seeing them as full, but if I scan or print from computer it prints say the colour purple as light yellow and red as bright Yellow etc. I have tried removing and reinstalling software but that didn't cure the problem.
am having problems changing the colour of my windows xp taskbar, and the colours of the bars inside a folder.the problem is when i try to change the colours to the original, using the appearance tab in the display properties, all it shows is windows classic styles, it doesnt show the original xp styles. (see attached print screen), what i want is the original colours of the folders and the task bar that are available when u first install xp.i had a trojan, spyware and malware problem, when i removed it the colours changed into classic.so, how do i change it into original,
Windows xp.Service pack 2. Celeron 1.2ghz i am getting this error. In opera when i load page it says "illegal address",in firefox, there is no error and the page does not load.In flashget , socket error 10038.
I have problems if I try and run the display settings above 800x600. I was wondering if this would be fixed if I upgrade the firmware settings and if so where would I get these upgrades? Whenever I try and run it at a higher display setting all I get is a thing saying "Signal isnt compatible with this display setting".
While playing a game I hit some buttons on accident and the display shrunk. Now the monsters are small, and so is everything else outside of the game I have no idea what I did, I checked the Screen Resolution and it seems fine, and I also checked my monitor settings, which is fine.
The monitor started showing graphic distortion. I ordered a new monitor but had the same distortion on it. I updated the ATI drivers but it did not solve the problem. In trying to trouble shoot the problem following directions on the ATI website, I changed all the graphic settings to the lowest and slowest available. This got rid of the distortion but the settings need to go! Now I cannot open the display settings.
My XP is currently defaulted on it's display settings 640v by 480 pixels and will not allow me to change it. In fact, there is nothing to change it to. I dont know what file I must of deleted, but is there anyway I can download the driver or something to make it so that it can be set on opitions that are higher?
