so I got on the computer, started up the Internet, and noticed the backgrounds weren't working. The text colours (like active links etc.) and normal images were working, but not any colours. Same with folders on the Desktop. So I tried to fix it, on the main Desktop I right clicked and went to properties, and changed the modified theme to Windows XP. Before I did that, the Folders looked something like this.

View 10 Replies View RelatedWIN XP Sp2, IE 6 and also Firefox 1.5. For some reason all webpages fail to display any colour. It's as if the "Ignore colors specified on webpages" option in Accessibility in Internet options is checked. It isn't. Don't think it has anything to do with that option because I get the same issue with Firefox. I have removed all security software / pop up blocker software, cleared cache & cookies, restored IE defaults, and run scannow sfc to no effect. Am a little reluctant to roll back to a previous date but cannot think of any alternative solution.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had problems with a couple fonts after I upgraded to XP SP3, so I undid the upgrade and reverted to SP2 (not without a few problems of its own).I now notice that some of the font names in my FONT folder are mainly blue in colour with a few in black. Amongst the ones in black are those that caused problems in SP3. could anyone explain the significance of these colors?
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt doesn't matter what colour depth I run my video card at, the icons, task bar icons and the window icon top left of every window always display in what appears to be 256 colours. Everything else is 16 bit or 32 bit, depending on what depth I have selected to run my video card at."Show icon using all possible colours" is checked in display properties. I have tried reinstalling windows to refresh any files that may be corrupt.

When I open a folder in My Documents,some documents show up with black font,others are white font and I can't figure out why.I have to hold the mouse over the document to see what it is.I have a folder with all my newsletter emails and some are in black font some in white.It doesn't seem to matter what the file ext. is.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy printer has just started not to print all the full colours. It is an all in one HP PSC 1410 and now prints everything as either Yellow, Light green or light blue. I have changed both the colour and black cartridges and the computer is seeing them as full, but if I scan or print from computer it prints say the colour purple as light yellow and red as bright Yellow etc. I have tried removing and reinstalling software but that didn't cure the problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhenever I start up IE7 "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" pops up. The problem is my internet is working for SOME programs. Firefox is working fine, but IE7 is not. Also Steam, Ventrilo, and AIM work fine, but programs such as, UBI Internet, and Gas Powered Games Internet, and almost all games do not work. It says Winsock error problem, but I have fixed the registry keys and followed all instructions.

Plus my Tablet side of things hasn't worked in a long time and I was hoping the clean install would fix that. But my recovery DVD isn't working (could be user error). View 14 Replies View RelatedI de-infected a windows XP system with SP3 and IE7. Once I did that, http no longer loaded in IE. It does not work in portable firefox either. I can type in ftp:// ftp address and IE works. Likewise I
can use https:// and the page loads! What is going on: I tried:
1) Reset ie7 as per MS
2) Removed IE 7
2a) IE6 would not load http either
3) reapplied SP3
4) Repair install win winxp cd.
5) Deleted and re-installed network card
This is where I am now. Still no http://. Since multiple applications are affected, I do not think it is a browser helper.
For approximately the past two months my background is set to a solid color. Believe me I have searched everywhere and tried just about everything. I cannot change the picture, only the color that I set for icon backgrounds. That sounds kind of confusing but I don't know how else to word it. Anyway, anyone have any ideas on how I can get my background picture back?

I go to CONTROL PANEL, DISPLAY,under THEMES, I select a new one and click APPLY and OK. It does not change the desktop background. When I right click on a photo and select SEND TO, it does not give the option to set as a background.Also tried right clicking on the desktop, and PROPERTIES, getting the same results.
View 8 Replies View Relatedi have too many programs running on my Taskmanager, i used End it all but couldn't get on with it, i want a program or someway of ending the background programs and then them staying closed, even after reboot,P.S- i have done al of the other options, like "Go into MSCONFIG" i have closed the ones i do not need there, my startup tab is empty.
A friend has a Compaq laptop running Windows XP. When you power up the system, the Windows XP logo screen comes up and then the desktop background comes up but it stops there. You never get any desktop icons or taskbar so there is no way to navigate. If anyone has any suggestions on how to debug this it would be appreciated. Thanks.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using XP Home Edition, with all updates installed. For some reason, I can't change the background wallpaper on my screen. I right-click on the desktop, select Properties, then select the Desktop tab. There is only one wallpaper listed in the Background list, as well as the (None) option, which works. Unfortunately, I can only switch between (None) and my current wallpaper. Browse works, in that I can search my computer for other images. But when I select any of those images nothing happens. The current wallpaper remains in the preview screen, and the wallpaper I selected through browsing doesn't show up in the Background list. (I can Center, Stretch and Tile my current wallpaper.)
